Hello buds,
A good deal of exciting news on the forefront. First up is that after months of bugging the company who makes the software which turns our GIFs into SWF, they sent us the C++ source code for the GIF portion of the code and davidc managed to track down the bug. Now we're just waiting for them to send us a new version of the binary and we'll be ready to do another test. A little more about this at YTMND Development Blog. You can also view the source code of the new flash template here.
Next up is that the refactor is now being worked on at least 30 hours a week. We have the new design for YTMND.com. I've spent the last few months slowly rewriting all of the core libraries where needed and the dev site is beginning to come together. It's coming.
I know I'm guilty of prematurely announcing features, and I don't want you all too excited. It's still probably a couple months off, as this is a rewrite of 90% of YTMND's code base, as well as a 100% rewrite of the HTML and Javascript. So much of what currently runs YTMND was written in 2004 and 2005, and I've learned a lot since then. I'll try to update the dev blog frequently about what I'm working on and the progress. At some point in the future people will be needed to beta test the new site, as everything down to the login system has been completely rewritten.
I just got the new designs last week so I've been chopping them up. I know you all want a peek, but be patient my prettys.
T-shirts are still coming in, but this week I'm sending off some designs to the printer to do some test prints and see which designs end up looking good and which will fall apart after a few runs through the washer. I've got an actual third party on the store, so this time around things should be more organized. I'll post more information sometime next week on what designs we chose.
Some of you may have noticed that your votes are showing up delayed, or you are able to comment more frequently than previously allowed. This is due to DB maintenance which is required for the transition to the new code base, and it will continue for the next few weeks. Please try not to abuse the site at this time or you will receive swift punishment.

Max Goldberg is the sole creator, owner and administrator of YTMND. A New York City resident, Goldberg registers a tone of dispassionate wonder at the phenomenon he has let loose on the Web and makes little attempt to explain its popularity. He is known for having created the first YTMND site. [edit] Penchants Max enjoys drinking Grey Goose vodka and deleting users/YTMNDs. [edit] History * In July 2006 max entered a Snakes on a Plane contest which rewards the fan with the most votes with a free sreening of the movie along with 100 friends. As a special thankyou to the YTMNDers who have voted for him, max has offered to take YTMNDers from the NYC area to the screening. However, his place in the fan contest was removed because the managers of the SOAP fan contest discovered that someone had been votehacking his name. His votes were restored a few days before the end of the contest.

There were plenty of users that could have been responsible mods. There probably still are now. Hanktherapper comes to mind. It's frustrating to stay active in a community when the leader never follows through on promises. Remember when max asked users to petition for modship? That was over 2 years ago. Has anything happened since then?

So this person (http://www.ytmnd.com/users/schme3/) is mass downvoting sites on the weekly top rated to try to get his site listed higher on the list. The thing is, it still isn't going to get his sites listed on the front page. http://www.ytmnd.com/users/davfrd/votes http://www.ytmnd.com/users/testing1/votes http://www.ytmnd.com/users/mapmaker/votes -- I'm sure he has more alts than this.
HEY MAX just thought i'd let you know that user Fooliano upvotes himself with alts Fooliano2 and muphins. this is annoying because he downvoted multiple sites of mine with his alts. its funny, he made Fooliano2 this month or last (cant remember) and he still used the alt to upvote his site that already has 5000+ votes...why would he do that? i guess he's kinda clueless, or who knows. ANYWAY!!!! have a nie day, or days. OK BYE

Sometimes the world looks perfect, Nothing to rearrange. Sometimes you get a feeling Like you need some kind of change. No matter what the odds are this time, Nothing's going to stand in my way. This flame in my heart, And a long lost friend Gives every dark street a light at the end. Standing tall, on the wings of my dream. Rise and fall, on the wings of my dream. The rain and thunder
The wind and haze I'm bound for better days. It's my life and my dream, Nothing's going to stop me now.
There’s a time for love and a time for living.
You take a chance and face the wind.
An open road and a road that’s hidden
A brand new life around the bend.
There were times when I lost a dream or two.
Found the trail, and at the end was you.
There’s a path you take and a path untaken
The choice is up to you my friend.
Nights are long but you’re on your way
To a brand new life,
Brand new life,
Brand new life around the bend.
It's a rare condition, in this day and age, to read any good news on the newspaper page. Love and tradition of the grand design, some people say it's even harder to find. Well then, there must be some magic clue inside these gentle walls. 'Cause all I see is a tower of dreams. Real love burstin' out of every seam. As days go by, we're gonna fill our house with happiness. The moon may cry, we're gonna smother the blues with tenderness. As days go by, it's the bigger love of the family.
1/3rd of a year and no still no word from King Max I! He has deserted a fanbase that's deserting the site. Even if he does finish the work (lol) and turn YTMND into YouTubeMND, what's the point? This site is beyond repair. Also, if there really is a plan to update this famous web gargle, a moderation system would be grand! Preferably one made up of responsible users and not just Max's friends.
NEGATIVE, I was secretly saying that the moderation system is awful. I am not dedicated enough nor do I have the patience or motivation to help run this site, but I am dead sure there are a number of dedicated users who would thrive under moderation responsibilties and help make this site fun again. What's the point anyway? Barely anyone comes here anymore compared to the visitor figures of a year ago, and it's Max's site. He could change ytmnd.com to a pic of a polar bear in a top hat if he liked.
Max, while I know you're busy coding, the same three sites have been on the top viewed for years (breakup letter, dramatic reading, 3.1415..., and Arnold shares his deepest feelings. So please either move them to the hall of fame to get them off top viewed or change the settings so once a site gets a certain number of views (100,000, 250,000, 1,000,000 or whatever you want) it will no longer show up on the top viewed list.
NO LESS THAN FIVE THOUSAND TESTICLES SHALL BE DELIVERED FORTH UPON MY PEOPLES TO AID IN THINE VITAL REPRODUCTIVE NECESSITIES AND, HERETOFORE, THOU SHALT BE KNOWN AS "THEM F*CKIN' LIBERAL COMMIES" BECAUSE OF MY POLITICAL VIEWPOINTS, no im actually pretty pumped about obAHmuh lol, HURR DURR REPUBLICAN STUFF ETC ETC
Max posted a threat on a moonman site last week saying he was going to "drop the hammer" on the mooncrew if they don't start to mark their garbage NSFW. That is better than any news update we could ask him to make. The mooncrew are major contributors in the death of ytmnd. Here's hoping max follows through on it.

So all the time now I have this ad for NESN showing here. (New England Sports Network) I have to say that the greatest bit of cookie marketing, or whatever it is, I've ever seen. You know, New England sports ad - for Umfuld. Ha. What an age we live in. I don't go there and the ad isn't changing that. But still, credit where it's due.
