I'm going pretty insane working on nothing but moderation stuff. I want to get a few new features that might be fun to code done in the mean time.
Take a look at the TODO file and leave a comment on the feature you'd most like to see get developed this week. Whatever seems to get the most response is what I will work on.

I would like to see YTMNSFW fixed. Even when I'm logged into YTMND and visit a YTMNSFW site I'm asked to verify my age. I figure it should remember how old I am. After that I'm not able to vote on the YTMNSFW site because it doesn't recognize that I'm logged in. I've seen this problem come and go for quite awhile now so I'm not sure if it is an issue on my end or not. Maybe bring back YTMNSFW.com. RSS feeds for YTMNEWS would be nice. The flash preloader advertising could help if handled delicately.
I'd go for ads in the preloader pretty quickly. It seems like a piece of really good, captive audience advertising real estate that could generate some serious revenue for the site, which clearly it, and you, need. Other than that really the moderation system will be a great help.
Liking the changes to the vote info on the profiles, though ive noticed the line "You've made x total votes with an average rating of y" is now broken. Though I'm sure you saw that too.
No because alot of times people who vote honestly and harshly get revenge downvoted and have poorly rated sites. I contribute alot to YTMND and my sites either are pure crap, poorly rated, or both. Vote weighing based on vote spread, number of votes made, time registered, and comments left would be the best way to reward active members and stop vote inflation by bad users.
Though I'd like the mod system to be finished, it doesn't seem to be an option for this week. User collaborated sites seems like an interesting idea. For example, the authors for We Didn't Start This Website would appear as NeoMatrixClt and Feedrosie. The site would then appear in both of their user profiles. Favorite users would also be a fun thing to add, but the wiki seems to be doin a good job of covering that for now.
Well the last thing you chickened ol' Bocepuhus's a legionaire, Van Damme said Bocephus sit down thar Said watch my movie, it's motha f*cking leet So they loaded up the bottle of schlitz malt liquor and had a tasty treat. Legionaire that is, Director Peter McDonald, Greatest movie Ever The Old Bocephus Clapped out Movie Hour!
I would love to see the ability to get a CC license in there... but only for use outside of YTMND... if you create it inside YTMND you should be able to use it on other ytmnds without restriction (although having the orig owner claim something is cool...) But remember, this may cause fights between users who claim to be the original holder of work... if someone makes a slight change they may claim something and not give credit to the person before them...
The idea of "Downations" is pretty creative. The only issue I would see is somebody donating a lot of money, just to have their site downated off the front page. This may cause some real problems.
Hardcore mode seems a bit too tough---A new user is forced to make a site that, if it doesn't receive a 2.5+ rating, the account gets deleted. Sometimes good sites just have bad luck; this is something to consider.
The issue of accidental deletion can just be handled by...
making a text box pop up in which the user has to type "delete." The private option, I believe, is a very BAD idea...It will lead to many poor quality sites (that will often be about inside jokes), and that's just a waist of space. On the friends list, everything seemed good except for the "sworn enemies" option because that could lead to *ugh* more downvoting. For the "super ugh" groups, I think you can just hold off on those for a little while XD. In my mind, they would not do much to improve YTMND.
BTape, but you WOULDN'T like the algorithms proposed because your vote spread is pathetic and you basically 5 sites you like and refrain from downvoting sites you dont like, even if you comment negatively on them. I don't know if you are afraid of being revenge downvoted or *gasp* disliked by a portion of the YTMND community, but I dont buy your given reason of "If I vote it gives them more chance to be on Top Voted." Yeah cause Top Voted controls YTMND. I don't think voting like that should be supported
, I think that there should be incentive provided to give a good vote spread and therefore vote HONESTLY. This would discourage blind downvoters and upvoters, and minimalize the effectiveness of alt downvoting or upvoting as well. That said BTape, you are still one of my favorite users and one of the best overall YTMNDers who "gets it" on an artistic and humorous level, so while I couldn't disagree more with your voting habits, I still love ya!
Voting algorithms can be designed in MANY ways. You could make it so that people who have a closer to even split of 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s getting a bonus, if you wanted to. I don't think thats the right way to do it, though, considering if you vote on only front page material your average should be "hopefully" higher than the normal YTMND average. There are alot of factors that could go into vote weighing, and I feel giving certain users more weight based on past performance and experience could help
prevent 4chan sh*t from being overrated, and reduce the vote disparity between old sites that are good if they are above 3.75 and new sites, which are good if they are above 4.4, and still even less often so. The masses need a voice, but to develop YTMND into a creative Mecca instead of a place to repost funny pics found elsewhere, increased power needs to be given to older, proven, and respected users. Users that want YTMND to succeed instead of blindly upvoting, downvoting, or alt voting.
users that don't pull punches on sh*tty sites, and reward well made sites, regardless of how they feel for the user. YTMND needs change badly and second to moderation system, vote weighing sounds like the best system to me to be able to acheive that goal. Profile pages? An easy way to DRASTICALLY increase bandwidth used and increase the need for ad revenue.
OK, now I'll whine at length. My vote spread went from 2/4ish to virtually split in late summer/fall for a few factors: 1. a sh*t storm of Zidane, EPIC, NEDM, prank phone calls, and stingrays 2. Dr-L337 (I 5d every one of them back then) 3. A change in how everyone else votes made me begin to upvote sites that might not have been actual fives but had no chance in hell otherwise.
I've since decided that voting is the problem here. If a site's visibility were not dependent upon a flawed pseudo-democracy, you wouldn't see multiple acc't voting (up or down), you wouldn't see evenge bs, and you could have content decided by users with an actual investment in seeing the site thrive, rather than as it now, where my single vote is canceled out by someone who just registered today or by DoucheN00BLOL111 and his 3 or 4 other acc'ts.
Well I think the moderation system at this point is probably the most vital feature. However, I guess the feature out everything in the TODO file that might be a valuable addition is User Profiles. Nothing real elaborate though I guess basic information and other fields relating to YTMND would be ok. But I don't need to know that BTape is currently listening to Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend and his current mood is hungry. Nor do I really need to know fourests favorite movies...since I already do.
I disagree with downations. Personally I'd be pissed if I spent my hard earned dollars on a good site (which I do all the time, in case anyone's noticed) and someone else donated an equal amount of money to take it away. if I may say so that sounds like a pretty thinly-veiled attempt at garnering more sponsorship dollarz to me, Max.
I'd like the 56k option to be worked on next. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too terrible to code (Though I'm not a coder). Maybe you could just have an option under the Account Options that allows you to see the approximate site of the YTMND, that could solve both problems. It would also give you an estimate how long you'd have to wait for the YTMND to load.
"[ CONTENT BOXES/ALGORITHMS THAT NEED WRITING ] +- Sites that are older than 1 week but have less than 10 votes." I'd like to see this one, just because I've got some sites that have been up for a long time with under a dozen votes. Not saying they're great, but it'd be nice to see how they stack up with a little more publicity. I'm betting a lot of other users could say the same. Maybe they could be sorted by age instead of vote-count.
Not really on the list, but you might want to think about making votes private. Maybe there was a time when it was good know how people voted, but the only effects of public voting are negative from what I can see. Some users are justifiably hesitant to low vote crappy sites for fear of revenge votes, while others simply voat 5 and comment so they get up voted in return. But I reckon you want to shorten the TODO list and not add new things, so I'll just shut up now.
Dear god that's a bad idea. If anything, you should HAVE to comment to vote. If people here are so f*cking timid and cowardly to vote openly and fairly they should get the hell out. Once more I am moved to believe that we need to do away with vote-based lisiting and hierarchies all together. There are better models for highlighting decent work here.
