Coe is sometimes called racist by people who are offended by "n****r f*cker" from his 1982 Underground Album. Coe, however, denies the charge and claims that the song is meant as satire. He has also pointed out that he actually had an African American drummer in his band who was married to a white woman. Various bootlegs by Johnny Rebel have been mistakenly attributed to Coe.
