There he found himself—in the shadow of an intellectual giant; whether or not his popularity was merited it couldn’t be denied—Schopenhauer was caught up in the whirlwind that was Hegel and cast asunder. Only a few men of his time had the good fortune of stumbling upon him as does the man who trips over his shoelaces only to look up and notice the oft neglected sunset whose beauty takes a grip of his soul. Yet, his unflinching attitude towards life takes us aback. This is why they call him a pessimist:
