The only value of a for which 2a=a is true is 0. Can't divide by zero.

...."this clearly means that 2a-a=0, and thus a is some value between 0 and a."

FYI, the correct reponse is that you cannot divide by (a-b), because a is equal to b, and therefore a-b = 0, and it would be dividing by zero.

Eh.

Your problem is that you divided by zero.

I love how the majority of YTMND doesn't know math, go pass 7th grade math before you post these stupid sites. a/a is, not necessarily 1, it could be 0/0 or infinity/infinity

It doesnt matter what "a" equals! A constant minus itself equals zero! And you can't divide by zero, not even in limits!

patjamas, I take it that you spend hours trying to digest the meaning behind the description of a cereal's contents? I mean, clearly, reading comprehension is not your strong suit.

Whenever I hear educated (well, more so than expected on ytmnd) discussion, I think Phoenix Write should be saying it. Just me.

see what happens when you divide by zero?

Actually, divide both sides by "a" and you get 2=1...the problem with the original math was that he didn't divide by zero. Would have been a 1, but Space Odyssey bumped it to a 2.

ha this site is great

I think an unknown can't be zero, that would make this equation impossible
