Saw it on maddox years ago. All that will do will make them stop paying for the postage. And take legal action against you with the support of the corrupt US government.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
OMG someone came up with the same idea as somone else, he couldn't possibly have come up with it himself he must have STOLE IT from someone popular! OMG BURN HIM!1!!11eleven!
August 20th, 2006
(0)
This isn't exactly what maddox had in his article, but it's fairly close. In any case, it could've been a coincidence, so 4 stars.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I honestly don't know what maddox is, or where I might find him/her/it.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
"And take legal action against you with the support of the corrupt US government." Yeah they probably could take action, but how would they know that you did it, I mean thousands of those letters are sent out at a time.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Because the little paper scraps have my name and address on them. ... *sigh* downvoters.

August 20th, 2006
(0)
I have to give this a 1 for dis-information. If you mail back those envelopes you are guaranteed to get more junk mail. When they are returned the companies that process them knows they got a response and will sell your name to more businesses.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
This is what you need to do to reduce jumk mail. "To reduce unwanted junk mail, send your name, address and telephone number, including area code, to: MAIL PREFERENCE SERVICE ATTN: DEPT: 10245470 DIRECT MARKETING ASSOCIATION P.O. BOX 282 CARMEL NY 10512 or visit www.junkbusters.com."

What? Like they've just verified that yours is a valid address? Dude, it's not email, they don't just send sh*t to every possible combination of numbers and letters. They ALREADY KNOW someone lives there. Stupid ass. Next time just one me without the asinine comment, okay?
August 20th, 2006
(0)
WIN
August 20th, 2006
(0)
What exactly can they take legal action you for? And, why would they bother?
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Even though I already read this on Maddox's site like years ago, at least you made the effort of making an animated instruction...
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Also, how is this "dis-information"? If EVERYONE sent them back torn-up trash, they would stop sending these offers out.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Hope you know half the people on this site arn't old enough to get credit card offers... Great idea though! I would 5 but you had Randy Newman so -1
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I, like Votey, have never before heard of Maddox. Ever.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
haha, that's clever. i just throw mine through the 'ol shredder; but even if everyone did that, it wouldn't be doing much. postage is a small price to pay in exchange for the money they collect from interest fees/debts imposed on clients who are unable to make payments.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
The idea is old, but every day thousands of innocent n00bs are born. Why should we not fill them in on our wisdom and internets lore? Maddox did it, Maddox did it.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I do this periodically, but instead of ripping things up, I draw pictures on it. For example, for a visa spam, I wrote "no thank you. but here is a picture of a snake." I then proceeded to draw a snake.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Roar-was-taken, that made me laugh... hard
August 20th, 2006
(0)
good idea, but i think it would be a better idea to use the business reply to mail a package over 75 lb. to slam them with a hefty shipping charge.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
^ Dude, YTMND ROCKS IT is the best thing ever.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Stolen from Maddox, But I can see you put effort in it, so i'm giving it 3 stars.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
No, they verify that this person responds to junk email and that means they will send more. Years ago I responded to a marketing research team soliciting me. I agreed. Even though I quit that five years ago I still get many phone calls and junk mail from people wanting me to join them.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I am responding to comments on my site. That makes me a homosexual. I am now homosexual.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
MADDOX F*CKING SUCKS, please stop talking about his page people
August 20th, 2006
(0)
You have just told everyone how to get more junk mail. This is not a hard concept you understand. Responce = more solicitation. Just becuase you're a teenager doesn't mean you know everything. You are wrong on this. This site is as full of mis-information. Trust me. If you have any descency (which you clearly don't due to your name calling), you'll delete it or change it to the address I gave you.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
You, sir, deserve attention on this YTMND for the greatness of kicking coporatewh0re @ss!
August 20th, 2006

5 to counter downvoting.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
hank, honestly, we're just here to have fun, okay? This isn't wikipedia. I have been doing this for years, and I get the same amount of offers as I always have. Regarding selling my name/address when they get a response: how did they get my name in the 1st place, was it sold to them? by whom? someone I repsonded to earlier? By your logic it would have to be traceable to an initial response. Whay wasn't my name sold to all possible buyers at that time?
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Good idea. I'm going to do that.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
ive done it, but ur name and address is all over some of those papers.
August 20th, 2006

OMG LAWLZ YOU STOLE THE IDEA FROM MADDOX!!!!11
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I love it!
August 20th, 2006
(0)
this is like fight club homework status.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
rhinofeeder, that's weird, because I told a co-worker that I'd never seen fight club, so he told me that I have to see it or else I might be kicked out of the male gender (then what would I do?), and ever since, he's been asking me if I've seen it yet. So it's like he's asking me for "fight club homework status".

When I saw this the first thing I thought was "he's going to fill the envelope with his own hair." Saving hair from haircuts and sending it to these folks would be funnier.

August 20th, 2006

HOLY SH*T, YES! I've heard similar ways of expressing one's disdain towards the junk mailers, but this one just takes the cake. And it gave the cake to me. I shall eat it, now.

August 20th, 2006

well maddox does say at the end of the article "spread the word" ...and this guy did.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Here's another interesting little trick. Take a preapproved credit application, tear it up, tape it back together, scribble out your address and put in someone else's, and fill out the app. They will recieve a credit card in your name. Identity theft is just that easy!
August 20th, 2006
(0)
agriculture was "discovered" independently seven times throughout history, yet this particular idea MUST have been stolen from somewhere else on the internet.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
F*CK YOU I DO THIS LOL!!!, TRY ROCKS IN THE ENVELOPE THOUGH I FIND ITS MORE SATISFING
August 20th, 2006
(0)
http://bash.org/?127039 You fail even more then usual theft for claiming it as your own idea.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
put pennys in it, so that they have to pay due to wheight(sp?) then when they tell you about it demand your change back
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Some people are flat-out retarded. He obviously hasn't heard of Maddox (phht, I don't even know). And he didn't "claim" it was his. He just said, "here's what I do." Besides, this joke has been going on since junk mail started. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Slideshow.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
His idea is a little different than Maddox's.. who just stuffed in pizza hut coupons and other junk mail. There was also a guy that mailed the credit card company a huge tire that he put in a box with the reply envelope taped on. This idea has been around forever, even before that bash.org entry, but it doesn't mean it's unfunny. -1 for Randy Newman.
(0)
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I always thought that maddox had something to do with football. Besides, how can they sue you for doing this? You'd think that what they're doing to you would be more wrong than what you're doing back.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Holy sh*t people are stupid. "OMG you stolezors from maddox! I wanna give maddox buttsecks, how could you?!?!!" ..... *ssh*l*es.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I tend to use those little cupons you get once a month for this. Some poor bastard in a mailroom somewhere gets to sift out my 50 cent off cupons for KY Jelly and afrosheen.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
I do this as well. If you get more than one in a day, mix them up and send Visa the Discover trash and vice versa.
August 20th, 2006
(0)
older than Maddox's great-grandfather, also putting the card with the "trash" is probably not the best of ideas...
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Allll RIGHT!

HAHAHAH i will end up doing this too all spam
August 21st, 2006
(0)
lol this is downvoted by maddox...lol idk who that is either...
August 21st, 2006
(0)
5'd because if you count this is plagarism (claiming others work as your own) then you're an idiot for not thinking of this anyway. I usually draw them pictures of stuff and send it back.
August 21st, 2006
(0)
As I read the comments I see the typical dumbasses on YTMND. 1) Maddox said to send them coupons so that you would not get sued, you are sending them something worthwhile. 2)If you just deny ever recieving an app you're fine, they can't prove that the letter wasn't mis-delivered. How are you people so stupid?
August 21st, 2006
(0)
Also, you're not raising your taxes or wasting government expenditures. The credit company pays the postage, the government sets that postage price. They set the price to a point that they make a profit. You're actually raising income to the United States via the postal service.
August 21st, 2006

"As long as you're all here, check out my other sites and let me know if any of them are stolen from maddox, too. Thanks so much!" Awesome. I had actually seen that on Maddox's site but completely forgot about it. Whatever, it's still a cool idea.

I send them a different application. Wait until you get 2 and swap them over so they get the wrong one. But I will try ripping now.
August 21st, 2006
(0)
Wow, whats the collective IQ of these downvoters? I bet it's in the double digits. Thank you for the idea. I'm going to do that if I ever get a chance... except I'll probably take out anything they could use to identify me and maybe put in an extra surprise for them ;)

August 21st, 2006

Maddox's idea was to send them coupons, downvoters suck =/
August 21st, 2006
(0)
Seriously, Maddox. By the way everyone, I'm not a downvoter.
August 21st, 2006
(0)
I knew about this before, but, hey, its a good idea and a good ytmnd to inform people who don't know.
August 21st, 2006
(0)
Yeah, even if you didn't intentionally rip off Maddox, his is still a MUCH better idea. Box full of crap > tiny envelope full of paper. But still, 3 for effort and making others aware! Also, WTFBBQ YOU DON'T KNOW WHO MADDOX IS?!?
August 21st, 2006
(0)
Known for years, srsly. 3 for calling it intrawebz 'intertron'
August 21st, 2006
(0)
remove 'it' from previous comment. also fork
August 21st, 2006
(0)
Putting stupid coupons or ripped up shreds is lame. What you do is tape the return envelope to a box full of crap (tires, boots, rocks) and as long as it's under 50 lbs. they'll have to pay for it, ha ha.
August 21st, 2006
(0)
It's better if you throw in fifteen pennies and demand your money back later.
August 21st, 2006
(0)
yeah you can actually return up to 72lbs of crap with that business reply envelope. just tape it to a box with a tire in it.
August 21st, 2006

I never get credit card offers. :(
August 21st, 2006

I think I saw Andy Rooney pitch this on idea on 60 minutes many moons ago. Not insinuating any ripoff, just a comment. I also like how he weighed the mixed nuts that said they were "less than 50% peanuts" to find they were 49% peanuts. Hail the Eyebrows of Andy Rooney!

Ha, great idea. And Maddox did popularize this on the internet bigger than most, but he admits he's not the first. Votey never said, "The ALL new way by ME," plus, Maddox sent pizza adds not the letter back in pieces.

It's a good idea, but this won't stop the companies from following up those junk mails with phone calls.

[Quote/ Maddox]They can't do anything about it because this is simply your way of telling them you're not interested, and giving them valuable coupons that could save them a lot of money, SO SPREAD THE WORD: JUNK THE JUNK.[end quote] Maddox didn't come up with the idea, and he wants people to spread the word, so stop downvoting.

I've done that before. It really does cut down the number of applications on it. Also write rude and obscene things like questioning the sexuality and make innundos about their affinity for barnyard animals. (also c*cks)

Film Threat (when it was still a magazine) had the best "Return Postage" War ever. They had some beef against Premier Magazine... They told thier readers to go to the magazine stand and get some of those Return Postage Subscription postcards that fall out when you open them. Then Tape together a few phonebooks or something else really heavy, and glue the Pre Paid postage card to it. Premiere Magazine had to pay all the postage on this heavy junk being sent to them...

It's like Paris Hilton trying to trademark "That's Hot". Votey is just spreadin the word. Did Maddox copyright his idea? No! Could anyone with some creativity come up with this idea? Yes! 5'd for spreadin the word...just like Maddox said to do!

1. Its not that hard to put it in the garbage if you don't like it 2. It's called being a business and earning money, they don't do it to annoy you 3. It won't stop them from sending you mail, just might not have return envelopes anymore.

Note to the retarted community of downvoters: I didn't know this; since Votey posted this now I do. This means one more person doing this. Please STFU and get back to sucking c*cks.

Jackofspades, this isn't going to stop anyone from getting junk mail. It's just going to waste your time. It's like hanging up on a telemarketer. It maybe fun, but it doesn't stop the calls. If you want to stop the telemarketers and junk mail then you have to submit your name to the opt-out list I posted.
