Let me explain this one to you. I love etymology and spent a lot of time with it in college, it's a wonderful tool for learning your language and why it is as it is.

First let's start with Driveway, Way being the path taken, or route. They were coined drive ways a while back, before we were so packed together like sardines with 10' driveways, used to you had to drive FROM the road to the house. Thus it is a Drive Way from the road to the house.

Next comes "Parkway" again Way is a route or a path taken. Park came from the french "parc" which came from the west germanic "parruk" (enclosed tract of land). Park came to mean during the 1800's a location where military artillary/cannons were stowed within an enclosed area. this led to the use of Parking as a verb 'to stow a vehicle within a Park', now lets forget this term for a moment and reffer back to the original parruk/parc defintions, enclosed tract of land. Notice Parkways are USUALLY
