First thing, pretty sure jesus wasnt symbolic. There was reference to him that dates back to his lifetime, and he is also revered in islam and buddhism. Secondly, you know you're only making things worse. Why dont you tackle something easier, like debunking young earth creationism?

Oh, I'm sure that were was a man called Jesus. Dosn't really prove anything.

Jason: A lot of the bible stories were actually found to be very similiar, if not completely taken from, pagan stories. Not all of them were, but many were, which leads me to believe that the whole thing is basically just a combination of stories and moral lessons that were made up or borrowed, and was simply a way to unite and govern people who were much more spread out and ungovernable than people are today.

The bible is big, written over the course of centuries, in multiple languages, some of it historically accurate, some of it indecipherable. Its not a thing that can be generalized over or simplified in one reaching statement.

Not to mention, I find it much more likely that people would make up a story/religion in order to control, deceive, or guide people than a man dying and rising from the grave to save us all from the devil. I wonder if people made fun of this religion when it first began the way that they do with Scientology today, I find it essentially the same.

Christians give to the poor. Scientologists make the poor poorer.

I'm a christian, yet I do not shove my religous views on unwilling people which is more want most. I would vote on this, but it would only be a one star. Because there is no originality, art, or comedic style to this ytmnd. I think there is space for all ytmnd but each created desevers some kind of effort.

You're very right, Scientology is essentially a scam for money, but could Christianity be a scam for the mind? It is a wonderful tool for manipulating people. Governments throughout history have used, changed, manipulated religion in general to suit their own purposes. I believe that religion was invented, it was an evolution really, inevitable that somebody would create something that could easily define our existence.

Rock Lobster certainly was a strange and offbeat tune to go with this YTMND. Its a good point. Unfortunantly it'll be downvoted by the Christian sheep on YTMND that are offended.

Jason: Asking serious questions about god and religion, and not just giving into blind sheepish faith makes me stupid? I think you're mixed up.

Good questions for moderates, but they won't care anyway, everything is a metaphor or doesnt matter to them. The fundies however, they just plug their ears and masterbate to Kent Hovind.

Athiesm isn't plural, there's only one of them. And what?

Shog: So you're sure Jesus wasn't a symbol because religions that came after the bible spoke of him? The bible is translated by professional people, and much of the bible is not historically correct. Projectswift: Both statements are wrong. NorthAmericanDangerDuo is correct, religion is a way of controlling people. It was the Aesir faith that made the vikings feared warriors, scientology earns money by tricking people and christianity was based for the good for the people but lost it's track.

"and much of the bible is not historically correct"--Proof, please. "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men." 1 Corinthians 15: 17-19. So generations of Christians gave their lives, some to this day, for a fable?
