Peterguy, if you honestly believe what you believe purely because you would like it to be true, not because you think it is, then you really need to re-examine your life. It's one thing to commit this logical fallacy; it's another thing to CELEBRATE it. Nobody in the history of Earth has gotten anywhere just plugging his ears and living in a dream world. The funny thing is that I actually do believe in God, or at least the concept of some creator. However, this is because I feel it's the most likely explanation, not because I simply want it to be true. I also leave open the possibility that God does not exist because I'm willing to accept reality. Are you?
Gabu, you made me realize something. There is something to be gained by living a fantasy. Life is what you make of it. If you believe that by going to church an hour a week and spreading fairy tales that you'll be favored by God and someday go to a great place, is there anything wrong with that? Some people can't fathom an end to existence and the thought is horrifying to them. Is it so wrong that they give themselves comfort with delusion? I wish there were a God. I would kiss his *ss raw. But there's not, and I know it, so I have to live a life with less meaning than I'd like. Maybe people who believe are the lucky ones...
^ I'm not talking about violent Muslims. I'm talking about Peterguy and those like him. I'm fairly confident that Peterguy would never hurt anyone for God. But you're right, too. As long as people hold fantasies that they get too involved with, there will always be someone willing to die and kill to preserve it.
