An introduction to Dadaism
Created on: September 12th, 2006
An introduction to Dadaism
According to its proponents, Dada was not art — it was "anti-art". Dada sought to fight art with art. For everything that art stood for, Dada was to represent the opposite. Where art was concerned with aesthetics, Dada ignored aesthetics.

World champion hugging towerflounder blinks at you in front of an extremely twitchy newspaper. He may soon paint his leg-windows with mild salsa while talking backwards about how he found Schrödinger's cat alive in a parenthesis-shaped box, or perhaps even breathe air with his mouth-afro. Worthy of a 5, just for all the strange things you can think about the critter doing.

..."It makes no sense. On purpose. There, now you know what Dada is." ... Wow, I can't believe you just tried to rationally explain Dada - that's like sooooo NOT Dada. In fact, that music choice wasn't Dada at all - it would have been better if it were a bicycle fish boot stomping on a face forever.

This isn't exactly dada-ism, though. If anything the combination of the pop culture symbols would make it pop art or something considered contemporary. Possibly Neo-dada. Dada is anti-art. Taking the moustache off of Sean Connery in photoshop but keeping eventhing else the same could be considered Dada, I suppose. Dada shocked the common sense. The WTC brought that across a tad, I suppose. Good effort. Clever use of music and background. B-

This is Surealism, not Dadaism. Simple not making sense isn't what Dada is. Take the most famous examples. A pipe or an upside-down urinal are not nonsensical, but the mindset they demand you take is.
September 13th, 2006
(0)
the irony and paradox of dadaism is it has no meaning and yet that is meaning in and of itself. Nice image.. what gallery are you showing that in? :p

I'm actually learning more about Dada just by reading the replies. But is it really surrealist if there was no logic or intention behind the assembly of visual parts? (Twin towers, fish head, lips, championship belt)

Origin of the song: Actually titled "Soft Tempest." From a Pandora file. I think the artist title is "Symbion Project" -- but I'm not quite sure.

I may have accidentally created borderline surrealism and/or pop art, because I was actually concerned with aesthetics :( But the assembly was freaky purposeful random. I gave the site a better description 4 boo + Tkreft
