I think he killed what little respect he gained among those who support his actions in any way. Though he already did that in his apology. Sure he went a little overboard, definitely crossed the line to being racist, but I'm not sure that was the main point. And what he's doing now is only solidifying people's view that he's a racist and that his intentions were racist; he's practically admitting it.
