They were also great, free men who would've been appalled by the current idea of "My country is awesome because it is my country." Did you know that Thomas Jefferson advocated a revolution every 10 years, in order to keep the government truly representative of the people? There were some truly noble and heroic acts made by the men in those pictures. There were also some truly despicable and reprehensible ones. The purpose of something like this YTMND is to get people to think about those acts....
FDR converted a flourishing capitalist economy into a ragged communistic welfare state. nothing he did nothing helped get rid of the depression, and if anything, he made it worse. elimination of gold standard, social security, welfare; all created by FDR; all are issues that drain the middle class who make up the majority of america for the sake of letting the uneducated masses slack off. in short, he cut off the balls of self supporting americans and made them dependant on the federal government
Check your historical facts again, buddy. It was because of things like the gold standard and the fact there was no Federal insurance on bank accounts that caused the depression in the first place and made it worsen. That little FDIC sticker at all banks that insures each account for $120,000, FDR and his Brain Trust started that. Look at the facts, as soon as FDR implemented his "Alphabet Soup" and pumped jobs into the economy it began improving immediately and it saved millions from starving to death.

All political parties suck, and the government wasn't set up for political parties, it was originally set up so that anyone could run for president. Now it's reduced to two people with the biggest wallets in their party.
And don't vote Nader, he'll ruin Congress by combining it, thus eliminating the check and balance of Congress.

most efforts to get off the gold standard didnt happen until post world war II with the bretton woods agreement. did you even listen during high social studies?
Lincoln, now praised as the great emancipator, not only freed 0 slaves, but created 100 years of hell for the black community. the south did not break away from the union b/c they wanted to keep their slaves as we are lead to believe, but it was because lincoln got elected without a single southern vote, meaning that the south had no representation. is that fair? having to follow the rules someone thousands of miles away sets for you is why we broke away from England.
lincoln let his army pillage massive cities that had no military garrison, rape women, steal from and kill civilians, and he threw american citizens into jail w/o habeas corpus (one of the reasons why most people hate bush). lincoln knew that the generations to come were going to criticize him as brutally as he crushed the rebel freedom fighters, so he spread propaganda like the emancipation proclamation (freeing zero slaves) so that people would say, "oh it was a war against evil slavery, so its justified"
if lincoln had not waged his war, there would be no racial tension b/w the white and black communities. slavery would have grown obsolete with new technology, and the white slave owners would have let slaves go on their own terms. the KKK was formed because of white resentment to having what they believed to be their property taken away. if the war was never waged and the confederate states of america was around, it would be a land where only those affected by a decision can vote on it, w/o a federal gov
I can understand many of your views on Lincoln and would have to agree with a several of them, some of them, however, I completely disagree with. But when it comes to FDR, I'm sorry, but you're almost completely wrong. Especially how you describe the "Great Depression" in American history as a "Flourishing Capitalist Economy." I would love for anyone to have told that to all the families in the dust bowl and all those stock brokers right before killed themselves when the stock market crashed.
Unfortunately, we cannot change what our ancestors have done, so the American Edgucation system (that I am in) tries to tell us that our past was entirely just(ified). I beg to differ (along with many others). It is called Heroification, the process of making people appear to be heroes. American history is filled with presidents who are known in (most) textbooks as sorts of pioneers that lead America to expand. But with every move forward, we pushed someone back.
While our leaders weren't perfect, and no leader has been. We can only dream of a perfect leader, but they don't exist. Every choice has two sides. The intended action, and the opposing reaction. Lowering taxes on the poor means someone has to cover the gap. Just like lowering taxes for the rich requires even more people to cover the gap.
Calling (only) American presidents barbarians emplores that you are ignorant of everyone else who has commited a crime and in a way, this acts as discrimination.

Every four years, like clockwork, one government leaves office and another takes its place. The genius of scheduled revolution is more innovative than all the technology invented in the last century. President Obama declared flatly this week that "the United States will not torture" many people wrongly believed that he'd shut the practice down, when in fact he'd merely repositioned it. Obama's Executive Order bans some -- not all -- US officials from torturing but it does not ban any of them, himself included, from sponsoring torture overseas.
