Wikipedia says: There are two accepted pronunciations for the prefix giga-: [ˈgɪgə] and [ˈdʒɪgə]. The former is more common than the latter.

Remember the movie was made in the 80's... the pronunciation "jigga-" for "giga-" was more common then. Also, the guy who wrote the book or the screenplay (I forgot which) got the word from a real scientist's lecture...

Yes the correct way to pronounce Gigawatt and Gigabyte is actually Jiggawatt and Jigabyte, but nobody says that.
