As for wrapping, it depends on what level of css your browser supports. Some browsers will force-wrap it, others will just hide it (but all the reply/vote controls) will be visible. YTMND 2.0 has doubled or tripled almost all text field sizes (comments, site meta data etc), it just handles people spamming in a more efficient manner. The new design has some bright colors on it, but the overall theme is dark so it isn't so painful to look at.

I haven't had any wash problems either, this is the first I've heard of them. At any rate, the SE shirt money will most likely go to replacing all the disks in the content servers, as they are a few years old now, and we need a lot more space if we're going to continue doubling up on assets (e.g. having gif and swf versions of everything).
