Deception
This is not an animation. Look at the assets and you'll know why. I got inspired by the work of Rufus Butler Seder and I wanted to challenge the whole concept of animation as it is commonly understood here on YTMND (that is, a succession of pictures compressed into a GIF or APNG file.) This YTMND is technically not an animation but a series of still pictures covered by a layer of scrolling black bars. The result is an optical illusion that gives the impression that something is moving behing the bars and the brain automatically reconstructs the image. In order of appearance: Bill Nye, ninjaworksit.ytmnd.com, steamsteamlol.ytmnd.com, lohanfacial.ytmnd.com, conangator.ytmnd.com, Doc Louis and Little Mac from PunchOut!!, Raymond, ckjcwf.ytmnd.com, conaninsane.ytmnd.com, handsouttacontrol.ytmnd.com. ADDENDUM: Just before uploading I discovered that had the same idea and made it even interactive. [site wildcatscroll:site]

Well, it's still technically animated, however your method of tricking the eye into thinking each frame itself was actually many, is really cool.

Also, this sort of thing creates a sort of "ghosting" effect to the picture so the trained eye can tell what you've done. I think there's a couple other sites like this.

You might want to look up the word "animation." It doesn't mean "real, very tiny people and objects doing actual stuff inside the screen of your laptop, TV, of computer monitor."

I came to this comment page expecting a debate about what was and wasn't animation. I have not been disappointed.

Nice effort, even if the music gave me flashbacks to my college roommate listening to that song 4000 times

I feel like this concept is full of potential, but I can't quite picture how it could be put to use.

Here I am, writing in my favourite YTMND I made.
Let this comment be a reminder for me, that I do not want to fully commit to this website anymore, for personal and artistic reasons.
