Notice that the two are distinctly different colours, textures and sizes, and that the DS one has more polygons. By hacking a bit, Yoshi can replace Mario, since the model is in the game already (as Paulunga mentioned). He can be found and spoken to by getting 120 stars, as shown in the first picture.
