I use for Xfire, but it's all true It's like the print screen button. It wasn't supposed to be used to make a bitmap of your screen, I'd tell you what it was acctually for, but noone really knows. Think it was something to do with actually printing

Two uses: It's the button that turns on/off the illumination on one of my keyboards. Second: doubletap scroll lock, then press up. That's the hotkey for my KVM. :P 5'd.

This is a catch 22 anyway. We don't use it, because generally, we don't know what its purpose is, therefore, we can't make use of it. If we can't make use of it, we assume that it does not have a purpose, which defeats it. I've tried it, but it hasn't actually ever done anything for me. Doesn't do anything scroll wise, so I assume it cannot fulfil its purpose. Punch the scroll lock for gods sake.

@ hamjamt: The other keys you mentioned are quite well-known, compared to Scroll Lock. Pause is used (in some modem games) to actually pause. Insert is used to change overwrite/underwrite functions, and numpad changes the mode of the numpad keys (which was meant for fast entry of numerical data into number-heavy jobs). It only takes one hand to enter numbers with a numpad, it takes two for the keyboard as a whole. (Note: Scroll lock DOES have a use - in some games, you can set it to preform a function).

ummm, scroll lock is only used simetimes (i use it for xfire)... if i hit the "a" key when i looked at this YTMND it wouldn't do anything... But the real reason I give you a one is for all the 5s you got for the audio before you actually gave credit. tricking n00bs into thinking that you made it... THAT'S NO GOOD!

SERIOUS COMMENT, WTF: I've actually used it once or twice, it works in Flash games that use the arrow keys or the scroll wheel to keep the page from scrolling while you're playing your games.

I have this thing where I press scroll lock twice and then an arrow key and it switches which computer is using the monitor. Super effective technique, although another button could probably have been assigned, I think... In fact, scroll lock probably got the job because it didn't do anything else :(
