I had to five this, as it was just way too funny. However, there is a much easier way to stop the shutdown than what you describe. Just type "shutdown -a" into the Run prompt and it'll abort.

This is caused by that 'Sasser worm' that was spread a few years ago. Tons of people, even with high protection, got it. It would basically cause this shutdown timer to start often. I'm assuming he just downloaded the worm, entered safe-mode, and owned it.
