Description: Is it possible that the beloved Doom music is just a rip off of a song made 30 years before it? My first YTMND, so be nice >_>

2006-07-20 13:48:47

NQDM won't be as catchy, but oh well.
2006-07-20 13:50:17

Also in Doom II "Barrels O' Fun" is based off some rock song I heard on GTA:SA. :o
2006-07-20 13:53:17

Its diffrent.
2006-07-20 13:56:35

Wouldn't doubt it.
2006-07-20 14:01:34

it goes too fast
2006-07-20 14:02:26

needs to be longer. and for god sakes needs sync.
2006-07-20 14:05:56

I'm pretty sure the doom song is based off a metalica song called Master of Puppets.
2006-07-20 14:06:10

NEDM = 1 every time. Stop making these.
2006-07-20 14:07:03

Yeah sorry about the syncing problem, I'm a complete n00b at this >_>
2006-07-20 14:08:59

Most songs in Doom are based off of other songs. "Dem bones" and "master of puppets" for example.
2006-07-20 14:11:48

So it's DEFINITELY Not even Doom music. Also pay royalties to titanium-gecko :)
2006-07-20 14:12:57

touche
2006-07-20 14:13:43

Other doom songs is Mouth of war by Pantera. We already know doom songs arent original, so you dont have to make a "Unfunny truth about Doom" ytmnd
2006-07-20 15:30:36

4 for good work overall, but the gif needs to be slowed down some.
2006-07-20 15:31:16

IT'S A RIP OFF
2006-07-20 15:36:06

Every song in Doom is ripped off. This is news to you? I thought this was common knowledge.
2006-07-20 15:38:24

Lots of songs have similar openings, its the entire song that makes or break something. For example theres a part in Paperboy for the snes that sounds exactly like "Hot in here" by Nelly.
2006-07-20 15:40:14

Doom music > Metallica
2006-07-20 15:41:04

Five :) What's the song name please ? I heard in KB II, in the Elle's car scene, that rock's ^^
2006-07-20 15:46:30

2006-07-20 16:06:25

What about METALLICA?
2006-07-20 16:09:25

Um Not even close. They're played tempo, rythim and beat but not even close. Different tune.
2006-07-20 16:17:37

ya.....maybe...... almost...
2006-07-20 16:22:04

I wouldn't call it a rip-off. It's more of a cover.
2006-07-20 16:22:47

lol for secret nedm cat
2006-07-20 16:24:23

2006-07-20 16:47:32

4 for Kill Bill and Uma.
2006-07-20 16:48:52

Actually, the composer for doom has said many times that his music was inspired by a lot of old stuff. A lot of the score is based off 80s metal, though.
2006-07-20 16:50:21

I want to see Rita Hayworth fighting Cacodemons.

2006-07-20 16:53:54

5 for the nedm cat for the pic :P
2006-07-20 17:01:03

Different tempo, rythym, and more imporantly Key! Not even the same scale being played, the kill bill one being a blues scale and doom being some kind of harmonic minor.
2006-07-20 17:02:07

also, not trolling, just felt I had to say, 3 for effort young man.
2006-07-20 17:02:40

oh snap?
2006-07-20 17:04:11

2006-07-20 17:24:18

"Actually, the composer for doom has said many times that his music was inspired by a lot of old stuff. A lot of the score is based off 80s metal, though." Uh, he was also a lawyer and knew how much he could rip off without getting in trouble. Remember, ripping off =/= influence am i rite?
2006-07-20 17:29:00

I thought it was ripped from a metallica song. I forget which one.
2006-07-20 17:31:56

HAPPY CAT AT FULL HEALTH.
2006-07-20 17:37:24

2006-07-20 17:38:18

no, nqdm.
2006-07-20 17:39:03

that's wrong It's a rip off of master of puppets by metallica.
2006-07-20 17:53:34

i don't think it's based off "master of puppets", i'm pretty sure it's based off a section of "no remorse". could be both though, metallica has a very distinct sound.
2006-07-20 17:55:14

lol naked beach sex
2006-07-20 17:55:27

No it doesn't. It's a metallica song.

2006-07-20 19:22:17

This particular Doom song is actually "Behind The Crooked Cross" by Slayer. I know another one is "This Love" by Pantera.

nice find, you are todays weiner
2006-07-20 22:34:36

It's pretty different when you listen several times. Yes, both instruments are progressing in a downwards fashion along the same chord, but... how they do it is different.
2006-07-20 22:37:47

oh wow? music notes sounding the same? damn what a find.
2006-07-20 22:45:13

the creators of doom publically acknowladged making thier music based on older music remixed to be more evil rockish still 5 for doom and nedm
2006-07-20 23:19:35

Um it is different.
2006-07-20 23:24:28

That's not the same thing at all you dumb f*ck. Tempo, rythmn is a lot different, and notes are far from being the same. I have perfect pitch, so take my word for it.
2006-07-20 23:54:42

Not even 70s music could make this funny lol....the track is different though, but it has to be to avoid copyright infringement(^retard)
2006-07-20 23:55:08

Guys, it's not meant to be taken that seriously o_0
2006-07-21 00:05:06

Cool
2006-07-21 00:06:38

SLOW IT THE f*ck DOWN
2006-07-21 00:23:56

2006-07-21 00:24:18

2006-07-21 00:31:41

NEDM Paradox, universe implosion commencing.
2006-07-21 00:36:33

THE SAME GODDAMN SONG!
2006-07-21 00:37:39

Not Even Doom Music can save your case! But I see what you did there
2006-07-21 00:40:35

yes, slow it down and let the music sink in
2006-07-21 00:44:50

also you here alot of sound effects in commercials, movies or even other games, like when enemies die- or I'm just crazy
2006-07-21 00:44:56

how the fck can u tell dude? like 1 second of music there...
2006-07-21 00:57:23

interesting....
2006-07-21 01:01:11

ok ok, let me clear this up, i always thought e1m1 (hangar) music sounded very similar to e3m3 (pandemonium), but e1m1 is definitely based off metallica (either no remorse or master of puppets) and e3m3 is based off of the slayer song (behind the crooked cross). maybe slayer ripped off metallica BEFORE doom ripped them both off, who knows, maybe they all ripped off the la route de salina song, or maybe it's simply "inspiration".
2006-07-21 01:01:17

why is it that everyone's first ytmnds are better than mine..? oh right the runescape thing
2006-07-21 01:13:40

The pictures move too fast
2006-07-21 01:40:40

That's not quite doom music dude. It sounds similar, but not quite.
2006-07-21 01:46:07

I've heard this riff in a billion other songs, though.
2006-07-21 01:50:00

this is the sh*ttu doom music, needs coburn
2006-07-21 02:53:26

LOL@ everyone asking for it to be slowed down. Sad.
2006-07-21 02:55:42

needs more music to compare.. the first 3 seconds does not warrant a five.
2006-07-21 03:25:07

ACtually, every single Doom song is a midi version of an already existing song, sometimes metaled up.
2006-07-21 03:38:05

Yes
2006-07-21 04:08:48

"so... there is no doom music?" lol I guess not
2006-07-21 04:24:36

No Wonder Uma Thurman went all ape sh*t
2006-07-21 04:29:34

5 for using NEDM for something good.
2006-07-21 05:36:39

Here, have a 1. There are probably a million songs with decending chromatics like this.
2006-07-21 05:38:24

Ok, actually I'm going to 5 this to make up for CHR 1-ing, claiming he has perfect pitch, and misspelling "rhythm."
2006-07-21 05:38:39

doom stole the music omg!1
2006-07-21 05:48:17

Think it was from metallica.
2006-07-21 05:56:50

OMFG, STRIFE HAD LIEK ASSIMILIATION WHCIH WUZ MADE IN 96 BUT HALFLIFE 2 HAS ASSIMILIATION AND THAT WAS MADE IN LIK, 2003
2006-07-21 06:35:20

needs more NEDM
2006-07-21 06:54:37

Slayer actually recorded a song for Doom. The song is Behind the Crooked Cross and its on the South of Heaven album. and this one is hardly a rip off, its a coincidental riff
2006-07-21 06:57:54

congrats on ur first ytmnd whit that is in the top 15
2006-07-21 07:01:14

Too bad the scale is different
2006-07-21 07:01:15

I thought it would be PTKFGS but no. So I guess nice find.
2006-07-21 07:28:32

2006-07-21 07:48:16

Also 5'd to counter NEDM downvoters. Chill out guys.
2006-07-21 07:54:33

metallica
2006-07-21 07:54:34

IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE, I just listened to The Chase and the only thing thats a little close is the start. Doom goes off into a WHOLE different toon, idiot.
2006-07-21 07:56:52

The doom music is all rip-offs of metallica, pantera, alice in chains, slayer and AC/DC anyway.
2006-07-21 08:23:43

Not Even Doom Music. The person who worked on the music for Doom said he used other music as inspiration. (No Remorse/Master of Puppets)
2006-07-21 08:25:34

NELRDSM
2006-07-21 08:27:10

2006-07-21 08:53:13

2006-07-21 08:56:08

2006-07-21 08:59:04

It's like the Michael Jackson/Sonic thing
2006-07-21 09:09:36

Way to subtly respect the nedm cat.
2006-07-21 09:10:09

5 for happy cat on first picture
2006-07-21 09:18:20

They don't sound THAT much alike...
2006-07-21 09:31:53

sounds very different
2006-07-21 09:58:15

The composer used lots of music as an innfluence, they originally wanted a CD soundtrack, but it wasn't viable. but 1992 - 1971 = 21 not 30, fail.
2006-07-21 10:01:05

Happy cat! (In the Middle-Bottom)
2006-07-21 10:22:54

!!!
2006-07-21 10:30:45

missing 3 things: nedm, chapstick, and lol
2006-07-21 10:37:00

The person 'composed' the music for Doom, was even told specifically to make covers of popular heavy metal songs, if I recall correctly.
2006-07-21 10:49:19

interesting yes
2006-07-21 10:50:57

nedm will never die.
2006-07-21 11:11:34

play the whole song douchebag
2006-07-21 11:43:54

5'd for sync alone.
2006-07-21 11:55:53

They used that on the original might morphin power rangers
2006-07-21 12:06:25

the segments are too quick
2006-07-21 12:07:40

5 because I love Kill Bill and I listen to that song on the soundtrack all the time.
2006-07-21 12:14:31

For anyone that hasn't twigged on just yet, I'm well aware that it doesn't sound QUITE like doom music, nor is it meant to. It's not meant to be an "omfg unfunny truth" thing either or I would have called it that (or added unfunny as a keyword). It sounds a bit like the opening doom music, but not QUITE. Get it, yet? Not QUITE Doom Music?
2006-07-21 12:15:21

See, well that's just not funny.
2006-07-21 12:20:11

Actually doom is a genre or music. OMG NUB.
2006-07-21 12:34:48

Great find.
2006-07-21 12:50:49

Good concept, needs a little more length.
2006-07-21 12:52:45

Interesting... This would be better if the gif was a little slower like others have mentioned.
2006-07-21 13:14:33

I'd like to hear all of that other song. Otherwise it's not quite funny.
2006-07-21 13:20:52

sounds kinda like master of puppets too
2006-07-21 13:43:21

learn to hear please....they are different
2006-07-21 13:43:56

So?
2006-07-21 13:47:19

I saw another one once in which the "Hangar" song was compared to Master of Puppets, by Metallica. Apparently, there's a lot of DOOM music out there.
2006-07-21 13:48:28

Ebaum had something to do with this....
2006-07-21 13:51:09

For a first ytmnd it's not that bad. Just slow down the animation a bit or something. It goes by pretty fast o.o I have to appreciate the rip off-y-ness
2006-07-21 14:20:20

I want that song... it's NEDM, yet better.
2006-07-21 14:20:50

KHAAAAAAAAN!!!!
2006-07-21 14:20:55

NEDM=5 Altough this needs more doom music.
2006-07-21 14:24:05

They are dissimilar.
2006-07-21 14:40:23

NO REMORSE/NO REPENT/WE DON'T CARE/WHAT IT MEANT
2006-07-21 17:18:37

5'd. I never saw the similarity, even having heard both songs!
2006-07-21 17:28:18

The common factor is that both films have spanish words on them. What do I win?
2006-07-21 17:57:44

it also sounds like a weird master of puppets
2006-07-21 17:58:51

Similar, but sufficiently different.
2006-07-21 18:25:55

Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure are not QUITE the same either. And 5'd solely for all the 1s.
2006-07-21 18:38:23

Not the same. Even for a joke, a bad joke gets 1.

"IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE, I just listened to The Chase and the only thing thats a little close is the start. Doom goes off into a WHOLE different toon, idiot." It goes off into a whole different cartoon? Are you sure you dont mean tune? I'd watch who you are calling an idiot. Anyway,i think this is pretty cool. I like finding songs that have similar sounding parts.
2006-07-21 18:56:21

Most of Doom's music is inspired by other things. So, yeah.
2006-07-21 18:56:38

How do the 2 continue? They have simaler openings but lots of songs do.
2006-07-21 18:59:35

no, no it doesn't sound familiar

Not the same notes at the end of the scale. Not the same. Besides, one stanza does not equal songs make.

Nice, but that song is actually based of Metallica's No Remorse.
2006-08-03 14:02:00

I just listened to "No Remorse" and "behind the Crooked Cross". They only sound a little like the Doom Music, probably just about as much as "Master of Puppets", except that M.O.P. ascends tonally while the others descend. So far I think the 70's one is the closest! Still could be a coincidence.
2006-08-03 14:19:43

I noticed someone had pointed out the scales were different, but he actually misidentified them. The Doom one is a whole tone scale and the other one is some form of major scale with passing tones (possibly major blues, so I'll give him that much).
2006-08-21 21:47:39

dude, just listen to master of puppets. if you got to doom before you got to metallica, you will recognize it immediately as 'that doom song'.
2006-09-08 20:56:27

you rock, please do agian ^_^

Most songs in Doom are inspiration from bands like Metallica. T'is on Wikipedia, and an official iD site.
