YTMND is not Youtube
2006-08-17 19:37:19

All my sites have been downvoted to hell lately, these downvoters are out of control. Not that any of them deserve to be above a 3, but damn, I've seen pictures of dog crap rated higher.
2006-08-17 19:37:20

I hate downvoters who are retards, but you could've kept the name in so we could make fun of him.
2006-08-17 19:38:05

I won't reveal the site, but i will say it's pretty easy to find if you spend 2 mins looking.
2006-08-17 19:38:09

also c*cks, nedm, etc.
2006-08-17 19:38:45

That was then, this is now, trends change, what was funny back then isn't anymore is all. Ultimately, the site is voter driven, so if the voters don't want to see a movie clip with nothing added, they will downvote. It's the entire premise of the website.
2006-08-17 19:38:47

finally someone says something... thank you
2006-08-17 19:38:49

this constitutes a top5
2006-08-17 19:44:04

See... I disagree. ytmnd is about creativity more than anything else. The Finding Forrester clip was emphasizing the absurd via repetition. If you want to do that, great... nobody's bitching. The truly great sites however are the ones that are creative and funny. Make a worthwhile contribution or gtfo.

benjaphar: Imho people come to YTMND to a) laugh b) occasionally be informed (unfunny truths etc) c) see neat and innovative stuff. If you think a is wrong, you're lying. Everyone enjoys a good laugh. The fact is, if a movie clip is funny, so what if it's "taken", it doesn't matter, people will find it amusing. This was the original premise behind yourethemannowdog.com which formed this site. Anyway, just my opinion. You have yours and i respect that. Btw, i'm not fyrestorm, but one of my YTMNDs did appear

2006-08-17 19:50:08

Giving someone a one doesn't make you a downvoter. Giving a site a one when it isnt warranted is downvoting. -2 for misconception, -2 for f*cking annoying sound. Onezie.
2006-08-17 19:50:58

That was awesome... And join the IIDF!!! http://com5.runboard.com/btheofficialytmndarmy We are currently recruiting anyone who is willing. Now is the best time to join! Also, c*cks. (subliminal messaging is awesome)

Agreed.
2006-08-17 19:53:11

Last thought on this subject: A YTMND should be rated for what the content *IS*, not whether or not it was difficult to create or hard to think up. If the former is true, the effort will be reflected in the YTMND itself anyway; thereby ensuring a high score for the creator's troubles.
2006-08-17 19:55:34

I think I have to disagree with you some. Notice how Max's original YTMND made use of a different picture? So it wasn't like Max just ripped it from Finding Forester. Additionally I think making YTMNDs respective of YTMND roots it more like a hit or miss thing. Either you pick a real genuis sound clip with acoompanied picture or it's a failure (1'd). I don't know if Sitsu still has it up, but he made a GREAT repeat line YTMND of Weird Al that got better with repeated viewings.
2006-08-17 20:00:34

I don't downvote movie ytmnd's, just ascii swords. No I'm just kidding, gay bumsex ftw.
2006-08-17 20:03:09

true....
2006-08-17 20:03:41

I'll try to make an argument. Probably won't fit. In sites like yourethemannowdog.com, the short and awkward soundloop it in itself adds enough parody to warrent a higher rating, then let's say an animated gif that is a stolen clip that doesn't take advantage of of ther ytmnd format at all. Example, the only entertainment value of colbertword.ytmnd.com is the jokes already seen from the episode. Please don't bite me.
2006-08-17 20:09:19

You both raise good points. Glad this stimulated some intelligent discussion :) Let's just not stray off course - I'm ranting about sites that "do not constitute a YTMND", according to capt. idiot, when the original YTMND, which DEFINED the genre, was taken from a movie itself. Downvote for not being funny, fine, but don't use a stupid argument like the one featured in this YTMND.
2006-08-17 20:09:26

WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. The picture in yourethemannowdog.ytmnd.com is NOT from the movie, nor is it moving. Conclusion: YOU are an idiot.

LOL. Upvoted.
2006-08-17 20:17:56

ftw. you're the man now dawg. also c*cks. I saw that at the end. DON'T TRY TO BE SNEAKY. And, To all the other idiots downvoting this thinking they're trying to prove a point. Come on now, You're wrong. Just admit it. Take max's advice, Rate for what it is, not for the material's origin. Most of the material in this awesome site is

taken from other things. Princess bride material was taken by syncan and made terribly funny, and I haven't seen him downvoted for that reason. Simply put, You're all asses. Just rate them for what they are, now from where they're from. You f*cking douches. gg.
2006-08-17 20:19:39

Good point, they are indeed idiots
2006-08-17 20:20:48

you make a simple, yet effective argument. Perhaps we all need to start rating ytmnds more for their humor than anything else. that is, after all, what ytmnd is here for. nice job sir.
2006-08-17 20:22:33

I think what constitutes a five worthy YTMND respective of the YTMND roots is a YTMND that uses audio and images of something that were it not looped and used in a YTMND it would not be as funny. You're the man now, dog was probably not that funny in the movie, but Max singled it out, got the pointing picture of Connery and looped the audio with the awful text. If someone were to just get a clip from say Family Guy with a run on joke (the joke audio should be short and catchy!)
2006-08-17 20:23:13

PSA's bad
2006-08-17 20:23:22

i tried to make this point earlier...but downvoters dont listen
2006-08-17 20:23:25

with nothing on the creators behalf that adds to the humor than it is, in my opinion, a one. To repost a respective clip and audio from a source with no change is like getting up on stage at an open mic and trying to get laughs for another comedians material. That is stealing and if you steal someone elses's funny, that makes one no better than Ebaum!
2006-08-17 20:26:36

Truer words have not been spoken, my friend.
2006-08-17 20:26:53

2006-08-17 20:28:33

No. Look, we are encouraging entirely too many bullsh*t no-effort no-thought no-point YTMNDs by upvoting just any friggin' "Hey, I Recognize That !" movie-cap. In case you haven't noticed, the general quality of the front page YTMNDs has really sunk in the past few months. Upvoting/downvoting isn't just being nice/being mean. It's supposed to reward the best and brightest, and thin the herd of the old and weak. Some dv'rs are just *ssh*l*es, but some are actually doing their duty by 1'ing crap sites.
2006-08-17 20:31:59

Your aASCII sword sucks. You succeeded at making a gif using text. Sadly the best part of your ytmnd was someone elses quote. I give a 5 to the blurry user and a 1 to you.

Out of context quotes are perfectly fine. (DOES ANYBODY WANT A PEANUT?) It's the people who rip 30-45 seconds from a movie, don't change anything, and call it a YTMND instead of taking that sh*t to Youtube.
2006-08-17 20:45:42

F.aggy short film. You just took some quote from snakes and added gay slide show. Go touch donkey penis, plzkthxbai

Ali, stfu. it's guys like you with ZERO sites, and suspiciously new account dates that are lame. there def has been a mass influx of downvoters in the last month or so. tons of users finding the worst reasons to downvote somebody
2006-08-17 20:50:26

thank you. It now is very hard to get a good up and coming site. There are just too many downvoters. 2 days ago ytmnds with a 3.6 rating were in the up and coming. It's Bull sh*t.
2006-08-17 20:54:29

and at times not one ytmnd has a 4+ rating in the up and coming.

The difference is, "You're the man now dog" is one line repeated. The movie clips are the full set-up and punchline. I don't think they are bad and I can appriciate the work that goes into them, but if i want to watch Zoolander then I will watch Zoolander. Max said it best on "Larry David, No!", "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THIS ISNT YOUTUBE. STOP USING YTMND AS A TV CLIP REPOSITORY."

2006-08-17 21:42:52

If I wanted to watch a movie I'd go watch the movie (as said before). If it is a funny enough clip, I'm sure I can find it on YouTube, GoogleVideo, etc., etc. Taking an already proven funny scene and making a YTMND out of it is garunteed sucess. There is a fine line between ripping an entire joke from a movie and making a joke out of a joke - that is where voting comes into play.
2006-08-17 21:46:42

2006-08-17 21:50:31

To quote that guy above me a few, "this is YTMND, not YouTube." Not a movie theater. Not a DVD player. To use the original yourethemannowdog.com as an example is offbase, as Max was not trying to "make a YTMND." I see what you're getting at, but this encourages more sh*tty YTMNDs so uh phail.
2006-08-17 21:57:33

4 for the also c*cks....it is essential :)
2006-08-17 22:02:25

"DEW" was funny. "YTMND" was funny. "Un-funny truth" was poignant. "Zarquawi own3d" was timely. "Safety not guaranteed" was a community event. YTMND is an entertainment site, and the most entertaining/informative things should get 4's and 5's.
2006-08-17 22:04:46

This particular site gives a much-needed forum, so I 4'd it, not for its rather sketchy logic, but for its forum. Downvoting for downvoting's sake is idiotic, and so is downvoting downvoters.
2006-08-17 22:04:56

2006-08-17 22:08:05

I see people saying to vote based on the site, then choosing sides here based on their opinion of the argument taking place here. The votes should not be weapons, people, but honest opinions of the entertainment value provided, regardless of formula or style.
2006-08-17 22:11:23

it was just a still image, not a full scene from a movie. Also, when the joke/punchline/funny part of the ytmnd is THE EXACT F*CKING SAME AS IT WAS IN THE MOVIE, it deserves a 1. Max's site took that serious part of that movie and turned it into a joke and making it quite laughable. Its not the same as it was in the movie.
2006-08-17 22:13:48

5's becasue it made sence and becasue of the retard above me.

You are all arguing over the internet, on comments, and about the technicalities behind an abstract form of internet humor. You all fail along with this site's creator. Good job!
2006-08-17 22:19:27

You tell 'em!
2006-08-17 22:21:16

True
2006-08-17 22:22:42

movie clips are entirely different from sites like the original you're the man now dog. a lot of people have made this point already, but i think it's worth repeating.
2006-08-17 22:26:26

If I want to see movie scense, I'll watch a movie. YTMND has changed in 5 years, imagine that.
2006-08-17 22:28:32

"You are all arguing over the internet, on comments, and about the technicalities behind an abstract form of internet humor." - Very true, except for the creator of this YTMND failing...therefore YOU and other downvoters fail.
2006-08-17 22:32:33

OMG LOL U STOLE IT FROM TEH MOVIES, MY FRIEND RON HOWARD WILL GET U FOR THIS!!!!!
2006-08-17 23:21:44

"so i would kindly ask you to not tell me to gtfo." When I said 'Make a worthwhile contribution or gtfo' I wasn't talking specifically to you- I was making a general comment. Your sites are usually great and almost always have a lot of creativity and originality in them. This is as it should be.
2006-08-18 06:01:19

what they mean is if your going to make a f*ggy shortfilm you need to make some effort he would have been better off doing a still image.

its true but stealing movie clips isnt funny. I dont think the yyou're the man now dog is funny. It just started the whole thing. Kinda like this ytmnd. it isnt funny at all
2006-08-19 00:45:56

besides the sound has absolutely nothing do to with the picture, making it like the rest of the ytmnds that fall into the category of sh*tty.

2006-08-19 01:38:14

Nicely said
2006-08-19 01:47:34

wrong, the original YTMND is funny because its out of context and hilarious, the same thing applys to other short clips, but when you take an entire scene word for word, it ruins the effect.
2006-08-19 01:47:43

6. FTW. LEGENDARY.
2006-08-19 01:48:59

loverofanus, let me get this straight... unless the sound and image are from the same exact thing then it makes it a sh*tty ytmnd? so NSMB sucks because the NSMB comment is from a movie that has nothing to do with punch out?
2006-08-19 01:50:38

The one thing I hate more than anything else is when someone has about 10 words to say and then a picture, so they make a 45 second f*ggy short film with 1 word a frame and then have the actual picture show up. Just put it all in one picture or two frames and stop with the long *ss movies.
2006-08-19 02:01:49

evilregal is a moron. in mod faves are oneliners with pics directly from, for example, Spiderman 2 "whoa, he stole that guys pizzas". max even posted a classic style with pic directly from the same movie. its about taking a one liner or moment out of context and repeating it forever. whether its bill and ted falling or owen wilsons guns, thats at true ytmnd.
2006-08-19 02:03:08

now, i like some f*ggy short films and sync sites with a beginning and ending, but when it comes to actual true YTMNDs, a site with a one liner and picture of a movie that took no work has just as much value, perhaps more so, as a YTMND than what people tend to like more these days.
2006-08-19 02:04:19

in fact, i'd like to see a hell of a lot more classic sites and a lot less of these longer sites. at least if a classic ytmnd or dew army sucks i know it sucks within 5 seconds rather than 50. thats my opinion.
2006-08-19 02:05:21

thank you
2006-08-19 02:06:17

sup Cataclaw, not you best site, lol
2006-08-19 02:08:43

as with mastersitsu, we take our ytmnd a little less seriously than most. hurray for the internetz.
2006-08-19 02:25:38

No. YTMNDers invent downvoters because they cant deal with the fact that maybe their sites suck and people are voting the truth, and they would rather imagine a crazy scapegoat user who randomly 1's 'good' sites than a logical user who 1's sh*tty sites.
2006-08-19 02:27:35

Excellent point, sir.
2006-08-19 02:28:26

"f*ggy short film" is indeed an overused phrase here on ytmnd, but in all honesty, most YTMNDers need to chill the f*ck out. it's a stupid website where people take words and pictures and slap them together by pressing a few buttons. the real work is done off the site if any work is done at all, and if it is a time-consuming edit, then it's like a day of work at most. but still, these things are time-wasters and one-note jokes. nothing more. stop taking it so f*cking seriously
2006-08-19 02:38:25

you only got a 2 because it was short. otherwise GO TO HELL AND STOP WASTING MY TIME BY NOT MAKING ME LAUGH
2006-08-19 02:39:49

Five for the truth!
2006-08-19 02:47:46

Everybody who's fiving this would probably give this site a five if you were telling them that they should downvote sites that are just movie clips. Conclusion: most ytmnd users are f*cking idiots. PS, RE your site: I don't give a f*ck.

at least the original wasn't a direct rip from the trailer to gif, i don't come to ytmnd to watch the latest family guy clip or popular funny video of the week
2006-08-19 03:06:45

I'm not going to downvote this, because I see where you're coming from, but come on. There is a reason YoureTheManNowDog.com isn't the top rated YTMND of all time. Truth is, that Snakes on a Plane site just took a video clip from some guys camera phone at a movie theatre. This isn't YouTube. So, it fails.
2006-08-19 03:06:50

2d for telling us what we already know. Also, the VAST majority of YTMNDs suck.
2006-08-19 03:07:12

That is a sound clip from a scene of a movie, set to a picture of Sean Connery.
2006-08-19 03:07:36

And I've had it with this motherf*cking sound clip on every other YTMND.
2006-08-19 03:09:14

Wow, some people seem to think that every ytmnd should be like the original. PROTIP: If someone made the original YTMND today (it being original itself) it would be downvoted by everyone. Standards are higher today. Deal with it.

2006-08-19 04:00:45

Yeah, I miss classic YTMND's. And people are definetly idiots. Any kind of "alteration" to a loop or movie clip is part of a FAD of an original YTMND.
2006-08-19 04:14:56

Wrong! He added text. If there was no text added but just a still frame, then I'd merit a 2 or 3. If its a f*ggy short film with nothing added, that's a 1 because that's the same as YouTube.
2006-08-19 04:16:58

all you did was steal the scene from that gay porn you were watching.
2006-08-19 04:36:47

You just took a scene from a movie, not very creative.

True True Without Movies, TV shows YTMND Would not exist..
2006-08-19 06:55:52

you should rate ytmnd's like you rate movies, some are great, some are garbage, either way, they all took an idea and work
2006-08-19 07:02:01

I disagree. People do it to movies we've all seen. No one, and I mean no one, ever watched Finding Forrester. And it's so stupid, it's special. Most movie clip YTMND are super stupid.
2006-08-19 08:13:01

5 for subliminal also c*cks
2006-08-19 08:19:43

The point in YTMND is to be creative and taking scenes from movies is a good way. These childish downvoters are destroying the purpose.
2006-08-19 08:21:03

There's a subtle difference between constantly looping a weird clip from Finding Forrester over a picture of Connery, and just ripping an audio and video clip out of Wayne's World and putting it up here. If you don't understand that, then I guess that you don't understand YTMND.
2006-08-19 08:28:31

The SoaP site, by the way, was different in that it was about the audience response to the clip, not simply the clip per se. Another subtle difference in comedy value. Your time would be more well spent if you ranted against the f*ggy short film mentality. There are dozens of 'f*ggy short films' in the HoF. The Ultimate Suffering, The Unfunny Truth, Right Now, etc. Stop this purism crap and base your vote on comedy and creativity.

"Standards are higher today." I disagree. Look at the number of 'epic maneuver' sites around 4.4 - just gifs taken from somethingawful's 'gif' thread and set to fad music.. my favorite classic sites are basically Image Macro's with audio and redefine the context of the original line while still being humorous/amplifying the humor. Even though I make gifs and sync sites that take a good while sometimes, it is frankly a lot harder to make a good classic ytmnd than a highly rated fad site.

reasoning+ytmnd=no mix
2006-08-19 12:36:27

Herein lies the defenition of classic ytmnd and non-classic ytmnd. If someone takes content from a movie, sound and image alltogether and does nothing to it, it's a f*ggy short film AND ripped material. Classic YTMNDs are a different story- in that they're usually a funny line from a movie with an accompanying image. There is one fundamental thing wrong with your case example as well- being that the scene from finding forrester (where the sound is from) and the picture of connery (film festival) are from
2006-08-19 12:39:17

2 different places. I saw an account the other day that featured 2 whole episodes of family guy- chopped up into 10 segments per episode. Downvoting for this reason is completely understandable, but I strongly do agree that downvoting is a huge necessary evil. Not everyone's complete-crap-sites can be a 5, now can they :D
2006-08-19 12:48:27

I do agree with sitsu though- Standards are much lower these days. Take someone doing something extraordinary, put "epic" music with it, and it's an "epic maneuver". I love picture, sound and text sites. They can often have just as much (or more) value as (than) a sync site. I try as hard as I can to abide by the ToS- inside jokes, etc. YTMND NEEDS downvotING and subsequently downvotERs- just vote SENSIBLY. I encourage "Mid"voting because it's not so much midvoting; it's more or less just voting Sensibly.
2006-08-19 12:53:36

Downvoters don't make YTMNDs much of the time for good reason: Take a look at Inkdrinker's sites. He's a downvoter, and consequently his sites suffer (most being below a 3). This is the reason many downvoters (which is a vague definition of someone who might just be speaking their mind, by the way) are actually just alt accounts of people with sites that have great ratings. Take a look at Idownvote thieves (whose account will remain nameless), for instance :)

You're the idiot since that picture of Connery didnt come from the movie.
2006-08-19 16:54:29

you guys forget max has a zillion mod faves where the classic ytmnd has image and source from the same movie - look at lina and wee's sites as well. max even posted 'you stole my story' - etc. with the original YTMND it could have very well ended up being a pic from the movie had it been made today and not 2001. anyways, even xWaspx's definitions isnt totally fair. its about context. the Bill and Ted forever falling gif, Owen Wilsons guns etc' - there is a way to rip directly from a movie well.
2006-08-19 16:55:58

Glorious ownage. Glorious.

2006-08-19 17:13:21

Think of it this way. If everyone voted "5" for a site, then what is the point of the voting system? People are entitled to thier own opinions, and if they don't like your site, that's the breaks.
2006-08-19 17:15:44

I don't fully agree with you, but I'll give you a five for that last flash at the end.
2006-08-19 19:08:41

The original YTMND isn't a scene lifted directly from a movie with nothing creative added. The creativity lies in the combined humor of the jumping out text, the static image, and the short sound that gets to the point.
2006-08-19 19:10:47

FTW
2006-08-19 19:11:58

Simply ripping a video clip that was presented in its original format as humorous is thievery. Same goes for taking an image that is intentionally SUPPOSED to be funny then presenting it as a YTMND, thus claiming it is your own work. That's the equivalent of a weak Dave Chapelle impersonation; it's unfunny, derivative, and pandering for cheap laughs.
2006-08-19 19:13:24

The original YTMND relied on a slightly humorous idea (Sean Connery saying You're the Man Now Dog), and amplified it into an artform through the use of picture, sound and text. All were short and to the point to focus on that one, simple message the site was trying to make.
2006-08-19 19:13:43

prime example of a narv comment
2006-08-19 19:19:37

damn yes
2006-08-19 19:26:17

Yeah. Find me the scene where Connery is outside pointing directly at the camera and saying that line. It ain't there. You're missing the f*cking point.
2006-08-19 19:26:49

Too much of YTMND today relies on either catering to the site regulars (fad jokes, compilations, etc), overbearing and unfunny "statements" that have been said a thousand times before, or from lifting jokes directly from their original content and presenting them in a format that is not at all funny (why watch a movie clip in a browser window?)
2006-08-19 19:26:54

But then, DaltonOfZeal covered it better than I could ever hope to.
2006-08-19 19:27:57

Sitsu covered it well, too.
2006-08-19 19:29:36

And this "downvoter" nonsense... why is it that even when a reason for a low rating is given, the user is still a downvoter? Branding everyone who votes less than 4 as a downvoter... let me put that in terms that cater to the site populace: "OMG, Secret Nazi YTMND!"
2006-08-19 19:31:24

We need to get Waziot in here. He's good at persuasive arguing.

you're the man now dog.com was original. just like the first few fad compilation sites were original. now they are all stupid and boring. in conclusion, you are an idiot.

Thank God for you.
2006-08-19 22:07:05

Thank you.
2006-08-19 22:08:34

Notice how most of the downvoters of this site have low-very low average sight ratings? Yeah.
2006-08-19 22:44:46

Well said.
2006-08-19 22:50:11

Do you know the difference between satire and just ripping something?? "You're the man now dog" is not the punchline in a comedy movie, thats what makes it funny, hearing it over and over again is poking fun at it, its a satire, removing the punch line from a joke in a comedy movie is not the same thing. I might as well tell a joke like "how do you fit 6 million jews in an ashtray?" on ytmnd, but then you'd downvote it, and I could make a bitchy site like this
2006-08-19 22:52:01

By the way, I do come here to "a) laugh b) occasionally be informed (unfunny truths etc) c) see neat and innovative stuff", I DO NOT come here to see that funny 20 second scene from "Half Baked" for the 100th f*cking time.
2006-08-19 23:20:19

I'm pretty sure the picture of Connery pointing ISN'T from the same scene as the audio clip. Point not made. And no one said that site was original or funny, it's quite a pain in the *ss actually, it was just one of the first ones made.
2006-08-19 23:23:58

Why is snakes bleeped? -1 if you did that, PM me if you didnt and ill +1. Actually, +1 anyways becuase the people who downvoted the other snakes site did not understand that the humor came from the audio of the crowd finishing the line. I hate you all and I hope you burn in an eternal hellfire while Satan poops in your mouth.
2006-08-19 23:59:08

"WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. The picture in yourethemannowdog.ytmnd.com is NOT from the movie, nor is it moving. Conclusion: YOU are an idiot"

2006-08-20 04:39:05

well 0put
2006-08-21 23:02:39

I was going to make a long comment about what a true YTMND really is, and about how you're the real idiot, but Drusamson pretty much said it all ... and much better than I could have. So I'll have to just be satisfied with downvoting you.
2006-08-22 04:11:08

"its about context. the Bill and Ted forever falling gif, Owen Wilsons guns etc' - there is a way to rip directly from a movie well." Precisely the point. The audio and video -can- come from the same source, as long as it's presented in an originally unintended or different humorous context.
2006-08-22 04:13:06

Bill & Ted Falling was humorous in the movie, but it didn't go on forever. The added comedy is in the fact that the gif and audio file were looped in just the right way to make it so that it appeared to go on forever. That didn't happen in the movie: the site creator did something to the material that gave it a new comical meaning. Ripping a joke out of a movie or Family Guy adds or changes nothing to the original.
2006-08-22 04:14:23

I guess this is a subtlety in comedy that some people don't seem to comprehend.
2006-08-22 17:43:54

good point, but the loop is short and obnoxious
2006-08-28 05:49:17

I dunno, there is a level of too much of just a scene from a movie. Like my miamivice.ytmnd. It catches the vibe of the scene, but a straight Divx Rip of Family Guy gets a 1. People who d/v stuff that is cool but isn't 'funny' are equally stupid. Last I checked we're 'artists' now.
