the epic fad IS sh*tty. just about ANY gif can be made into an 'epic maneuver' - you could take this same gif and set it to 'wonderful time' or 'dont stop me now' or any other vague fad music, and i bet someone actually might. you can sit in the middle of someone elses effortless fad or you can try to find NEW music and perhaps inspire a NEW series of sites.

I for one don't think the epic fad is inherently dumb, it's just that this particular fad doesn't allow a lot of leeway for creativity. You can't change the music. You have to use an unedited clip from a movie or TV show. There's no wiggle room for new, unexpected things.
