| Great book. | ||||||
| I like | ||||||
| 1st | ||||||
| good 1 | ||||||
| are runway models too skinny? |
-1 | |||||
| i heard it's written in Salinger's will that we can't make YTMNDs out of his book. |
+1 | |||||
| Epic in its own way. 5'd | ||||||
| booktmnd __ That's a damn good idea. Maybe I'll make a ytmnd that doesn't even come close to representing "The old man and the sea" in your honor. | ||||||
| This is new. | ||||||
| The only book I read in its entirety through all 4 years of HS, I kid you not | ||||||
| This was rather good. | ||||||
| I don't usually 5 non-humor sites but here, have one. | ||||||
| One of the few books I read, and tbh it was a good f*cking book. | ||||||
| great site for a great book. well done | ||||||
| excuse me? | ||||||
| I love a lot of your stuff, but this is not what ytmnd is all about. |
-1 | |||||
| I sent this site to my teacher lol | ||||||
| Awesome Book | ||||||
| 5 for emotional moment :P | ||||||
| shut the f*ck up, Ackley, before i shove this hat backwards up your pimply *ss for chrissake!________________hell yes! | ||||||
| Nice. | ||||||
| 5'd for one of the greatest pieces of literature in the world. | ||||||
| J.D Salinger = PHAIL....source, Wikipedia ".....Salinger tried Dianetics (later called Scientology), even meeting L. Ron Hubbard himself, .....This was followed by a number of spiritual/medical/nutritional belief systems including Christian Science, teachings of Edgar Cayce, homeopathy......vomiting to remove impurities...... drinking one's own urine etc" |
-2 | |||||
| So, GodRMK, you're going to 1 this YTMND based on what the author did, and not on the actual story? That makes you blind. |
+1 | |||||
| I never got a chance to read this, but tricolor makes good sites | ||||||
| I'm not saying I like Salinger... I like Holden. | ||||||
| the first good book i read. | ||||||
| This site sucks because Salinger was a scientologist. Therefore you are a failure. |
-1 | |||||
| PHONIES | ||||||
| Word. | ||||||
| Sh*tty book. By the way people talk about that book, you'd think he were some serial killer who murders kids, but it's just about some normal guy. Lame. |
-3 | |||||
| |||||||
| god I hated that book, it was physically painful for me to read. I never actually finished it, opting instead to fail the test rather that subject myself to that kind of torture. It was the only year I failed an entire English class on purpose. |
-2 | |||||
| |||||||
| 1 because of scientology. all the people who criticized GodRMK FAIL, since by reading and supporting this book you are supporting the sales of a book which its profits may be donated to Scienteology causes, as we all know once a member always a member unless your dead! Heres a better example, would you support a site which cited something from Ebaumsworld. Yeah, the material may be funny and cool by itself, but the fact you are encouraging and supporting ebaumsworld makes you a traitor to YTMND! |
-2 | |||||
| Supporting Salinger is supporting the death of lisa mcpherson!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
-1 | |||||
| Whatever, man. | ||||||
| i never really liked this book. 4 anyways. | ||||||
| Catcher in the Rye = Fruity McGayGay |
-3 | |||||
| Five for good lit. | ||||||
| Dead Medium? Naaah. IT'S ALIVE! |
+1 | |||||
| Catcher in the Rye is still a great book. it's not like Salinger was influenced by scientology when he wrote it. Holden is a character that a lot of people can relate to. you sir, get a 5. | ||||||
| you made me sad | ||||||
| Sorry, but I f*cking hated that book. Almost as bad as having to read some sh*t by Ray Bradbury. Why the hell would anyone care about any of that crap? Innocence is such a dumbass concept. |
-1 | |||||
| also you realize that the character 'forester' from 'finding forester'...the movie from which we draw our namesake...is based off JD salinger, right? | ||||||
| loved the book, and the sound is nice | ||||||
| YTMND at it's artistic finest, excellent job my friend. | ||||||
| almost stolen http://nowserene.ytmnd.com/ | ||||||
| The only book I read in english classes that I hated. I'll give you a 4 for effort, but I just didn't like the concepts or themes of the book. I understood and was able to relate with the character in some situations, but maybe if I was in the 50's I might understand why it was so big. | ||||||
| I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. | ||||||
| im sorry tricolor, worst book ever 1 | ||||||
| screams emo |
-2 | |||||
| I personally hate the book, but I like what you've done here a lot. | ||||||
| hehe sometimes I feel like I go under a lot of stress then I remember the main charater in this book in how he had grey hair.
As for the guys who critize this piece of material, you need to stop polarising yourself in idoligies. Yes he may have been into scientology, but the book is about a kid finding himself, as trying to make it on his own, and finding true meaning behind things. You can't have somebody be wrong on one thing to explain your reason for everything else he did was wrong. (cont...)
| I read that book back in high school.......have a 5 | ||||||
| Much better use of an image... as a tool rather than just a novelty. Also, equating Ebaumsworld with Scientology is a good way to make yourself look like an idiot... |
-1 | |||||
| I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody | ||||||
| Emo is a funny word. It seems to denote intelligence and sentimentality nowadays. I wear no black lipstick, nor do I listen to whiny music. But, yes, I have emotions. And yes, I'm afraid about a lot of things. And yes, I hate and love many things. I guess I am emo. And so are you. |
+2 | |||||
| Terrible book... and no I'm not bashing it because I'm too stupid to find the deeper meaning of the book. I just flat out thought the book was terrible. Besides, this YTMND lacks humor | ||||||
| Love it. Nice homage. | ||||||
| Also, Catcher in the Rye is the favorite book of every single emo kid across america |
-1 | |||||
| Read what I said before you sound like a trendwhore. |
+1 | |||||
| Perfect music, Howard Shore's great | ||||||
| great book ... nice work | ||||||
| (cont) For example, the christian bible, it's filled with circular logic and represive stuff. If you were to say that the bible is evil, just because it rejects gays and has been used as an excuse for black slavery in america doesn't mean it's all bad, the bible does say that compassion is good and what's wrong with compassion. People need to break this habbit of supporting themselves in idoligical beliefs. Don't be a Neo Cons and see everything as black or white. Hate the book for the book not the man. | ||||||
| Not sure why I liked this one, but I did. 4/5 | ||||||
| f*cking beautiful | ||||||
| You gotta do a "A tree grows in Brooklyn" next, classic literature. | ||||||
| Artsy! | ||||||
| beautiful. | ||||||
| http://amessagetoyou.ytmnsfw.com/ | ||||||
| this is an amazing idea. The most unique ytmnd I have seen in monthes and monthes, thank you for this. I really mean it. | ||||||
| Spotz said it for me. | ||||||
| Beautiful work. Not at all funny, and I assume that was the point. | ||||||
| What the culture? | ||||||
| F*ck the haters. This is beautiful. | ||||||
| This book kicked ass | ||||||
| yeah i never read the whole book | ||||||
| A classic. | ||||||
| I'm kind of conflicted about this. I feel so tempted to down vote just because I haven't read the book and downvoting something just because you don't understand it is definately the cool thing to do. Also This is just quotes with pic and music, so again feel like dv, but will abstain since it's possibly a good book and it won't do me any good 2 dv anyway. | ||||||
| Very cool, man. | ||||||
| Book ytmnd's... interesting idea. | ||||||
| 5 for soothing | ||||||
| MEANING? ON YTMND?!?! | ||||||
| |||||||
| Man If they made books like that now. Do Of Mice and Men Next.........or Huck Finn. | ||||||
| 4'd for choosing the more inspirational instead of the whiny quotes | ||||||
| I hate it when people criticize sites for not being funny... although a lot of YTMND sites are made for humor, I prefer to think of YTMND as an artistic medium, no more, no less. | ||||||
| ah man... awesome book | ||||||
| Just so people didn't know me and I didn't know anybody. I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. ...or should I? | ||||||
| I like this idea, It's different. This could parts of YTMND into a different route. It's good to get away from the dry humor every once in a while, and this site did the trick. I definitely hope more of these get made. I 4'd it because I hear Salinger was a Scientologist. Other then that Fruity Mcgay gay'ness . I salute you sir. .also c*cks. | ||||||
| Franny and Zooey > Catcher | ||||||
| 5 cuz i liked the book back in high school but it is a bit overrated | ||||||
| Beautiful. | ||||||
| Books are so 20th century | ||||||
| I hated Catcher in the Rye so much. So much. So very, very much. So very overrated. | ||||||
| :-) makes me happy | ||||||
| I think I have to agree with Spotz on this one. | ||||||
| 5 for deepness and now ima go read the book | ||||||
| however, no im not, i cant read....damnit | ||||||
| Why is that book so baaaaaad. And overrated -- every kid to come out of high school throws the book around to signify their apparent enlightened state of mind. "Wow man, this book is so like me! We're all [cheesy Junior-year English class teacher bullsh*t], and it makes ME feel like a catcher in the rye..." Grats. You now understand the meaning of life. THE BOOK WAS NOT THAT GOOD. Apart from being an excellent example of writing style, it's just more bullsh*t leftover from a wasted generation. | ||||||
| Oh yeah, I liked the artistic design--very nice image, layout, etc--but your pretension earned you a 3. | ||||||
| |||||||
| 5ived for great book | ||||||
| Nicely done. | ||||||
| 5. Using a book that seperates people capable of accepting multiple points of view from those who aren't.
(though actually, I thought it was pretty damn boring anyway. But still.)
| You think you can do Matlab? MAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttllllllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbbb? | ||||||
| The people who downvoted because of Scientology disappoint me. Downvote because you didn't like the book, fine, but this site and tricolor have nothing to do with Scientology. | ||||||
| Thank you :) | ||||||
| wow... i like the new direction. a lot. | ||||||
| That book is awesome. | ||||||
| Simply beautiful beyond words. | ||||||
| I decided to read this book becuase it is supposedly a classic. I stopped reading half way through becuase it sucked so bad. I thank god that one of my *ssh*le teachers had never assinged this sh*t in school. | ||||||
| Without this book, YTMND would not have come into existence. | ||||||
| BTW, I wont downvote you just becuase I hate this book. | ||||||
| BASEBALL FT....ohh wait.... | ||||||
| Great book, anybody saying its emo should realize that they are way more into the emo sh*t than Salinger was... This book was written a long time ago, and you're the ones saying "emoemoemoemoemoemoemo." Go hump a log. This site is good, and I'm reading the book again this winter break. Thanks tricolor. | ||||||
| I kept waiting for a zombie to pop up..or a 35000 hrtz wave...but nothing happened... | ||||||
| Pretty field of wheat, whatever, that part works. It's the pretentious dogsh*t masquerading as literature surrounding it that wastes the initial happy bliss. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Yes, I read that stupid book in high school too. I just chose to not let it turn me Emo. | ||||||
| You seem pretty emotional right now. | ||||||
| I guess I do, if you consider disgust to be an emotion. Hey, whatever floats your boat. You want to get weepy eyed over this book, knock yourself out. I just found it lame. | ||||||
| It's a deal! |
+1 | |||||
| This is awesome man. It's kind of a shame they make you read it in high school. I always hated reading the books they gave in the context they were given. | ||||||
| Emos are like hippies. Here's a story: The beatnicks came along during the 1950s and were the philosophical and artistic leaders of their time. They listened to jazz, for the most part, and experimented with drugs, as many of them were semi-existentialists. So what happened? Their ideas and values flooded into the mainstream, they became watered down and littered with the ideas of common man. Pop culture ruined one counterculture, and turned an aberration into a festering necessity, which all the cool | ||||||
| kids rapidly took part of. Their motives being fitting in, sex, drugs, and inflating their egos. Anybody who was not like them was, in many of their minds, a fool and an evil person. They viewed themselves as misunderstood, etc, though their ideas were hugely idealistic and impossible to enact given human nature (which, ironically, they were following. If they had been living in Hitler's Germany they would have marched in line with everybody else). So, for the slow witted reader, I'll connect the dots. | ||||||
| There are various brilliant minds, intellectuals, artists, musicians, all the like, who create wonderful things. Honestly, being intelligent is difficult, and a skeptic mind is generally a miserable mind-particularly at a young age. That is one thing that Salinger was presenting, and I'm sure that Salinger himself went through a similar phase. It's called Weltschmertz, or world hate. I know Hemingway went through it, and if you think he's 'emo,' so help me god... | ||||||
| That explains some aspects of the dilemma, but you're not mentioning the dangerous fact that "emo" is being broadened to the point that it can be used to describe cancer patients and dejected orphans. The original usage of "emo" is great, as I hate fake attention-seekers. The evolving "emo" is engulfing anything involving feelings other than pure joy or buttsecks, however. |
-1 | |||||
| Ah, your allusion to Hemingway clarifies your point much more. Thanks for the thoughts. I'm afraid they're too lengthy for simpletons to read, though, so I may have to resort to making a flashy and child-pleasing YTMND about this matter. |
-1 | |||||
| Anyways, with all of these great works of art focusing on the self lamenting of the intelligent youth, it's only natural that some of it would become mainstream, similar to the beatnick's ideas and values. This has manifested, as you all know, in the form of emos. Normal, cool kids who act like depressed f*cks for attention and other things, which I pointed out earlier with the hippies. Now it's impossible to create anything remotely depressing or sad, because it will be immediately labeled as emo. | ||||||
| I'm going to cut myself | ||||||
| kind of like this ytmnd ;p | ||||||
| Such is the dilemma of our era. Oh, well. F*ck 'em all. I have no friends, anyway, so I don't have to worry about this too much. |
-1 | |||||
| Well now you're just being emo... j/k. I hear ya. There's honestly a ton more to it, like where emo originated from (mid-80s form of punk music which sounds nothing like modern emo). Also, 'gothic' music like Joy Division or Bauhaus (1970s) having a label which has now been given to such sh*t as Mudvayne and other mallcore. But yea, it's the dilemma of every era. Humans really suck balls. Just read Nietzsche and become ubers, that's my advice. | ||||||
| Best. Book. EVER. | ||||||
| OMG LAUGHING MAN FTW! | ||||||
| Guys it's just like... Holden is the only one that really knows how I feel, you know? It's just like I can soooo relate to him, you know? He's me. I'm Holden. I'm going to go cry for a little bit then read the part about the fish in the lake. That's my favorite. | ||||||
| this is great | ||||||
| I hated that book. | ||||||
| I'm really into novels, but I absolutely hated this book. Here, let me sum it up for those who haven't read it: Everyone is phoney except for Holden - he thinks himself as the most badass person in the entire world. Everyone else is wrong. He holds himself up on a goddamn pedestal the whole book, portraying himself as so great, that'd he'd be the one catching the kids in the wheat field. Imagine every page of this book following this premise and you will then know how painful it is to read. | ||||||
| Jesus H. Christ, this is YTMND not some pseudo intellectual forum about human behavior and intellect. Go back to the coffee/poetry shops you guys came from.
ALSO C*CKS | ||||||
| I love that book. | ||||||
| I don't see a baseball player stuck in a piece of bread... | ||||||
| Beautiful | ||||||
| Way to make a completely non-funny ytmnds about a crappy book. |
-1 | |||||
| Love it, very original. Just wondering...Isn't that actually "The Breaking of the Fellowship?" The song title, that is. | ||||||
| This is absolutely the worst site I've ever seen on YTMND. |
-1 | |||||
| g1 | ||||||
| 1'd for Catcher in the Rye, teen angst and emos don't make good reading material. | ||||||
| Quite good ole chap. | ||||||
| you better be a female |
-1 | |||||
| yay depressing | ||||||
| good book | ||||||
| People seem to be getting really worked up about the nature of this site. Ironic. | ||||||
| The best works of art often incite both love and anger from audiences. Anyone here who's cracked open a few Psychology books knows why. | ||||||
| i'm not sure why, but i really liked it, it is relaxing and for some reason, it makes me fell good......plus you are so cool that i have to 5 it anyway | ||||||
| Ah, if only we could 1 delusional morons who seem to think YTMND is all about "teh funnay". Hint: Comedy is not why sites like "The Unfunny Truth about Scientology" or "Runaway Train"(To a degree) did so well. YTMND is an artistic medium. Or do you only like comedic movies, books, and songs? | ||||||
| epic. this ytmnd made me want to read the book
| ||||||
| That kid is a little emo. But good works. | ||||||
| wierd stuff... :S 5 for good editing :D | ||||||
| never read it. but goodness, this is one calming-ass site. | ||||||
| Simple, beautiful. There should be more YTMNDs like this. | ||||||
| I greatly enjoyed the book, a nice tribute to it.
Now if we can only get the darn author's relatives to release some more of his books ^.-
| It's really easy to tell which comments are left by teenagers and which ones are left by adults. But this is one of my favorite books, so... 5. :) | ||||||
| Brought tears to my eyes. | ||||||
| I don't like the book, especially the beginning. Such an emo! Phonies? LOL. How could you like that guy? But when he explains the meaning of the title, it is emotional and beautiful and that's the only good part. | ||||||
| deep, and yet, simplistic all in the same. What a great book. | ||||||
| just an excellent YTMND. One of the greatest books I've ever read. | ||||||
| No mentioned Sean Connery's character from Finding Forrester here? | ||||||
| Franny and Zooey < Catcher though. | ||||||
| Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody. | ||||||
| Really beautiful; I love this. You just singlehandedly proved to me that this website is good for more than parody. | ||||||
| YTMNDers can read? Wow! | ||||||
| Hahaha this fits the book perfectly, and for some odd reason I loved the book itself. | ||||||
