i heard it's written in Salinger's will that we can't make YTMNDs out of his book.

Epic in its own way. 5'd

booktmnd __ That's a damn good idea. Maybe I'll make a ytmnd that doesn't even come close to representing "The old man and the sea" in your honor.
2006-10-31 19:59:52

This is new.

J.D Salinger = PHAIL....source, Wikipedia ".....Salinger tried Dianetics (later called Scientology), even meeting L. Ron Hubbard himself, .....This was followed by a number of spiritual/medical/nutritional belief systems including Christian Science, teachings of Edgar Cayce, homeopathy......vomiting to remove impurities...... drinking one's own urine etc"

So, GodRMK, you're going to 1 this YTMND based on what the author did, and not on the actual story? That makes you blind.

I never got a chance to read this, but tricolor makes good sites
2006-10-31 20:19:35

I'm not saying I like Salinger... I like Holden.
2006-10-31 20:19:53

the first good book i read.
2006-10-31 20:23:02

This site sucks because Salinger was a scientologist. Therefore you are a failure.

Sh*tty book. By the way people talk about that book, you'd think he were some serial killer who murders kids, but it's just about some normal guy. Lame.

god I hated that book, it was physically painful for me to read. I never actually finished it, opting instead to fail the test rather that subject myself to that kind of torture. It was the only year I failed an entire English class on purpose.

1 because of scientology. all the people who criticized GodRMK FAIL, since by reading and supporting this book you are supporting the sales of a book which its profits may be donated to Scienteology causes, as we all know once a member always a member unless your dead! Heres a better example, would you support a site which cited something from Ebaumsworld. Yeah, the material may be funny and cool by itself, but the fact you are encouraging and supporting ebaumsworld makes you a traitor to YTMND!

Supporting Salinger is supporting the death of lisa mcpherson!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Catcher in the Rye is still a great book. it's not like Salinger was influenced by scientology when he wrote it. Holden is a character that a lot of people can relate to. you sir, get a 5.
2006-10-31 20:58:11

you made me sad
2006-10-31 20:58:45

Sorry, but I f*cking hated that book. Almost as bad as having to read some sh*t by Ray Bradbury. Why the hell would anyone care about any of that crap? Innocence is such a dumbass concept.

also you realize that the character 'forester' from 'finding forester'...the movie from which we draw our namesake...is based off JD salinger, right?
2006-10-31 21:01:59

loved the book, and the sound is nice
2006-10-31 21:11:12

YTMND at it's artistic finest, excellent job my friend.

2006-10-31 21:14:49

The only book I read in english classes that I hated. I'll give you a 4 for effort, but I just didn't like the concepts or themes of the book. I understood and was able to relate with the character in some situations, but maybe if I was in the 50's I might understand why it was so big.
2006-10-31 21:16:39

I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

I personally hate the book, but I like what you've done here a lot.
2006-10-31 21:28:01

hehe sometimes I feel like I go under a lot of stress then I remember the main charater in this book in how he had grey hair. As for the guys who critize this piece of material, you need to stop polarising yourself in idoligies. Yes he may have been into scientology, but the book is about a kid finding himself, as trying to make it on his own, and finding true meaning behind things. You can't have somebody be wrong on one thing to explain your reason for everything else he did was wrong. (cont...)
2006-10-31 21:29:07

I read that book back in high school.......have a 5
2006-10-31 21:34:06

Much better use of an image... as a tool rather than just a novelty. Also, equating Ebaumsworld with Scientology is a good way to make yourself look like an idiot...

I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody
2006-10-31 21:38:48

Emo is a funny word. It seems to denote intelligence and sentimentality nowadays. I wear no black lipstick, nor do I listen to whiny music. But, yes, I have emotions. And yes, I'm afraid about a lot of things. And yes, I hate and love many things. I guess I am emo. And so are you.

Terrible book... and no I'm not bashing it because I'm too stupid to find the deeper meaning of the book. I just flat out thought the book was terrible. Besides, this YTMND lacks humor
2006-10-31 21:39:44

Love it. Nice homage.
2006-10-31 21:41:04

Also, Catcher in the Rye is the favorite book of every single emo kid across america

great book ... nice work
2006-10-31 21:50:54

(cont) For example, the christian bible, it's filled with circular logic and represive stuff. If you were to say that the bible is evil, just because it rejects gays and has been used as an excuse for black slavery in america doesn't mean it's all bad, the bible does say that compassion is good and what's wrong with compassion. People need to break this habbit of supporting themselves in idoligical beliefs. Don't be a Neo Cons and see everything as black or white. Hate the book for the book not the man.
2006-10-31 21:51:16

Not sure why I liked this one, but I did. 4/5
2006-10-31 21:56:20

f*cking beautiful

this is an amazing idea. The most unique ytmnd I have seen in monthes and monthes, thank you for this. I really mean it.
2006-10-31 22:19:18

Spotz said it for me.
2006-10-31 22:20:14

Beautiful work. Not at all funny, and I assume that was the point.
2006-10-31 22:21:16

What the culture?

F*ck the haters. This is beautiful.

This book kicked ass
2006-10-31 22:27:36

yeah i never read the whole book
2006-10-31 22:28:44

A classic.
2006-10-31 22:29:12

I'm kind of conflicted about this. I feel so tempted to down vote just because I haven't read the book and downvoting something just because you don't understand it is definately the cool thing to do. Also This is just quotes with pic and music, so again feel like dv, but will abstain since it's possibly a good book and it won't do me any good 2 dv anyway.
2006-10-31 22:35:05

Very cool, man.
2006-10-31 22:35:32

Book ytmnd's... interesting idea.

2006-10-31 22:48:13

2006-10-31 22:48:25

Man If they made books like that now. Do Of Mice and Men Next.........or Huck Finn.
2006-10-31 22:50:28

4'd for choosing the more inspirational instead of the whiny quotes
2006-10-31 22:50:29

I hate it when people criticize sites for not being funny... although a lot of YTMND sites are made for humor, I prefer to think of YTMND as an artistic medium, no more, no less.
2006-10-31 23:02:12

ah man... awesome book
2006-10-31 23:05:05

Just so people didn't know me and I didn't know anybody. I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. ...or should I?
2006-10-31 23:07:53

I like this idea, It's different. This could parts of YTMND into a different route. It's good to get away from the dry humor every once in a while, and this site did the trick. I definitely hope more of these get made. I 4'd it because I hear Salinger was a Scientologist. Other then that Fruity Mcgay gay'ness . I salute you sir. .also c*cks.
2006-10-31 23:15:38

Franny and Zooey > Catcher
2006-10-31 23:16:15

2006-10-31 23:22:43

Beautiful.
2006-10-31 23:29:07

Books are so 20th century
2006-10-31 23:30:25

I hated Catcher in the Rye so much. So much. So very, very much. So very overrated.
2006-10-31 23:31:59

:-) makes me happy
2006-10-31 23:36:14

I think I have to agree with Spotz on this one.
2006-10-31 23:36:38

5 for deepness and now ima go read the book
2006-10-31 23:41:32

however, no im not, i cant read....damnit
2006-10-31 23:42:07

Why is that book so baaaaaad. And overrated -- every kid to come out of high school throws the book around to signify their apparent enlightened state of mind. "Wow man, this book is so like me! We're all [cheesy Junior-year English class teacher bullsh*t], and it makes ME feel like a catcher in the rye..." Grats. You now understand the meaning of life. THE BOOK WAS NOT THAT GOOD. Apart from being an excellent example of writing style, it's just more bullsh*t leftover from a wasted generation.
2006-10-31 23:42:53

Oh yeah, I liked the artistic design--very nice image, layout, etc--but your pretension earned you a 3.
2006-10-31 23:43:19

2006-10-31 23:45:06

5ived for great book
2006-10-31 23:52:24

Nicely done.
2006-10-31 23:57:58

5. Using a book that seperates people capable of accepting multiple points of view from those who aren't. (though actually, I thought it was pretty damn boring anyway. But still.)
2006-11-01 00:02:22

You think you can do Matlab? MAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttllllllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbbb?
2006-11-01 00:03:27

The people who downvoted because of Scientology disappoint me. Downvote because you didn't like the book, fine, but this site and tricolor have nothing to do with Scientology.
2006-11-01 00:04:49

Thank you :)
2006-11-01 00:13:47

wow... i like the new direction. a lot.
2006-11-01 00:20:14

That book is awesome.
2006-11-01 00:32:43

Simply beautiful beyond words.
2006-11-01 00:36:51

I decided to read this book becuase it is supposedly a classic. I stopped reading half way through becuase it sucked so bad. I thank god that one of my *ssh*le teachers had never assinged this sh*t in school.
2006-11-01 00:36:57

Without this book, YTMND would not have come into existence.
2006-11-01 00:37:23

BTW, I wont downvote you just becuase I hate this book.
2006-11-01 00:43:28

BASEBALL FT....ohh wait....
