Yeah, I've heard of this type of thing. The NFL donates all those pre-made shirts to countries in need. Much more generous than MLB. They burn all those shirts.

yeah this is still disgustingly ironic however. Sure these people are going to take what they can get but, these poor people are getting the ultimate hand me downs, not to mention that most are too big, and they were never very good shirts to begin with, especially if you plan to stay warm. Also I think the most tragic of all is that they are now wearing a physical manifestation of the Patriots' failure.
