MercedesBenzTurboDiesel

Description: An amazing machine that can turn anything oily and flammable (such as diesel fuel, motor oil, vegetable oil, kerosene, jet A, heating oil, ect ect) into 90 kilowatts of kinetic energy. It is suspected to be the single most reliable engine ever built.

One of these days I'll sit down and research the mechanical differences between diesel and normal gas engines.

Diesel has a higher flashpoint and burns like 6% cleaner.

diesel engines use compression ignition. No spark plug. They compress the air till it gets very hot, then when the piston is at the top fuel is injected, which ignites on contact with the hot air. They use a higher compression ratio to achieve the auto ignition, and are thus more efficient, and the fuel (oil) has more energy content that a solvent type liquid (gasoline) therefore even ebtter fuel economy

Thanks, I was wondering why it looked some much like a normal gas engine. I didn't notice the missing spark plugs. Now I can say I learned something from YTMND... scary eh?

what?

Is it 5 inline or 10 v? i cant really tell from the pic. If it's 5 inline those are some HUGE barrels :o

Or maybe like... an electric motor? More efficient and reliable with only one moving part.

An electric motor cannot turn oil and oxygen into kinetic energy. It turns electricity into kinetic energy. For its purpose, this engine is a masterpiece. The internal combustion engine is a very useful machine, just as a electric motor is a very useful machine. Try moving a 4000 pound vehicle 500 miles with a battery pack the size of a 21 gallon tank of diesel. it will never happen, battery technology will never become that dense.

Compression ignition FTW

Sorry. It has nothing on the HP LaserJet 4.
