But DBZ had violence! Pointless power up sequences... and violence!

Many other things also had violence.

Not nearly as intense violence. I'd be hard pressed to think of any other shows that I watched back when I was a kid that was as violent as DBZ. Hell, even when Bandai was censoring it, it was STILL considerably more violent.

"Mr. Rogers 'Hood" was pretty violent.
