Ok so I'm tired of people thinking they are music wits and think that all 4/4 songs go together. The reason why these two songs sound good together is because of their beat stresses and bar patterns. The Ratatat song has the following bar pattern: 16 beats of pattern 1 4 bars of 16 beat pattern 2 2 bars of 16 beat pattern 3 3 more bars of 16 beat pattern With a soft stress on beat 4 and a strong stress on beat 8 throughout.

Now, the reason why the rap sounds good with this song is because the lyrics have a natural stress on beat 4 and an even stronger stress on beat 8 because the second line makes the rhyme.

There's way too much discussion over this to read right now so it may have been pointed out but beastie boys and ratatat go together like peanutbuter and onions - there's been a huge number of mash ups floating around the internet for years - I have about at least 10 songs of them beat matched, all of them this same thing, beastie vocals over ratatat backgrounds. I'll still not 1, but I won't vote. Intergalatic is mashed with El Pico - much better match up than this.

So why didn't you post them here? Sounds like popularity guilt to me.
