Oh, god. So much speculation over so little. First of all, he's noted in http://ytmnd.com/info/about that YTMND is about "a site created for the purpose of furthering the __creativity__ of its users" (underscores added). Therefore, he hates these creativity-killing fads. Second, all he would've had to do was add 5000000 to a database value, perhaps via an easy Web form. It's not hard at all, and hardly tough to take them back out by (gasp!) SUBTRACTING 5000000 from the new, inflated count.

I'm trying to say that this is benign sh*t compared to what he COULD've done. He could've deleted everything but Adverb's (see: "rollback" news story) and State-of-mind's sites. Instead, all he did was inflate a number on HIS database on HIS website.
