I am sympathetic to this objection. A lot of people would agree with you, including some who are recognized as intelligent.<br /><br />However, I am afraid this is an oversimplification.<br /><br />You imply that the 1950s and 1960s because all the New Deal policies were retained. But also during that time, Truman had also reduced government spending as well as the top tax rate. Eisenhower reduced it slightly as well, as did JFK.<br /><br />Now, while most of the New Deal programs and polcies were in effect during the 1970s, there was also a great recession during the 1970s. The top tax rate had not yet fallen. People had a difficult time buying gas. Food prices were rising. The official liberal policy of adding inflation seemed to have no effect. A term came about during the 1970s called "stagflation". Meaning that in spite of the federal reserve providing more money (the sort of thing that people like Paul Krugman recommend), there was still economic stagnation.<br /><br />Was this Reagan's fault? He did not even start office until January of 1981. But somehow you portray the times prior to him as an economic paradise.<br /><br />You also accused Reagan of cutitng the New Deal programs. To be fair, you are not the first to make this accusation. But the fact is, not a single New Deal program was cut during the Reagan administration. I understand that the expression is a common phrase in western culture. But I believe it to be flawed. I am thankful for my ability to deconstruct, whatever level it might be at, because those who do deconstruct are the real world's problem solvers. They tend to be the engineers, scientists, doctors, inventors, programmers, etc.<br /><br />I think the examples of where there were good intentions but also hellish results were not because of the good intentions, but because of either poor execution, lack of knowledge of the issue, inflated arrogance of the executors of the plan and/or fundamentally flawed premises.<br /><br />For example, if I built a building for many people to live in, but then the building collapses by mistake, it was not my good intentions which made the building collapse, but bad engineering.

Downvoting trolls ultimately solve nothing since ytmnd is 98% trolls, where as attacking you brings me the almost endless satisfaction of taking down a peg someone who has an inflated self-worth. Normally, I'm not a big enough asshole to incessantly attack others because they do things I disapprove of, but you are so annoying that I am literally fighting back words every time you type. You know the problems but do not understand how to solve them, and end up wallowing in the same filth that you condemn. Instead of abdicating superiority at the first sign of hypocrisy, you pretend it never happened or you provide some absurd justification for it (ex. making and using alts). When your sites get attacked for any reason, be it reasonable or not, you fire back personal insults, thereby alienating everyone, and most humorously, you then promote a collective effort to stop user abuses to the very users who despise you. You repeat this same destructive behavior ad nauseam expecting different results, which is insane. Maybe I would have sympathy for you if this issue wasn't a willingly self-inflicted byproduct of your mental complex.
