It's not a stupid question. Because "greed" is a convenient slander for whenever someone wants to get on some moral high horse. <br /><br />The problem is that "greed" means different things to different people. Along with it's stepbrother word "selfish".<br /><br />For example, some people say if you want to pay less taxes, that you are greedy. No rational explanation is provided for what the proper threshold for non greed on that is.<br /><br />Others claim that government employees are "greedy", because they are typically much harder to fire than private sector employees. Government employees also tend to get better benefits and are more likely to be unionized than a private sector employee. <br /><br />Others still define greed as simply making more money than they do.<br /><br />One of the ways my dad uses "selfish" is regards to those who smoke weed. What he fails to consider is that people who drink or enjoy any other form of pleasure can be accused of selfishness as well.<br /><br />So, I almost never see a consistent definition of "greed" or "selfishness". Therefore, I just roll my eyes whenever someone uses these words.

I try to rely on the system as little as possible. I don't drive a car, I'm somewhat of a preper, I try to stay off the grid as much as possible, while still taking advantage of it as much as possible (a difficult balance).<br /><br />Bottom line is that everyone is an animal. Sometimes territorial and fierce, sometimes communal and bonding. But always wanting to dominate their surroundings using any means at their disposal, be it money and power, emotional subterfuge or brute force.<br /><br />I don't have it all figured out, but I do know you have to be damn careful out there and you can't really trust anyone. Not a stranger, not a family member, not a cop, not a president. <br /><br />Except that there are times when you have no choice. That's the rub.

Well, terms like "left" and "democrat" can be subjective. Yes, print has been in decline for a while. Making a living as a freelancer is hard enough. <br /><br />Packaging is a big part of my work now - everyone who sells physical items still needs cartons and labels. One advantage I have is that all the new people in the design field know zilch about cmyk + spot or complex finishings. So there is less competition for me.<br /><br />I got my cs6 on ebay and I plan to use it forever unless Adobe reverses their licensing. The print apps are feature complete and mature and I'll never miss anything new. I'll virtualize CS6 if future OS upgrades break it.<br /><br />If I switched to mobile/web, as those technologies advance, I'm afraid I might be left out if I were to rely on feature frozen cs6 web apps.<br /><br />When it comes to web, I hate code, I'm lazy and don't want to learn it. But I also know most wysiwyg editors are flawed in some regards that would require some knowhow to fix or optimize. With print, I never have to edit postscript, so I'm spoiled compared to people who deal with html.<br /><br />I've been waiting for web authoring to mature and solidify so that what I choose to learn won't change for a long time. But I don't see that happening yet.<br /><br />I also hate how when you design a web page, clients always expect unlimited revisions and sometimes unexpected features like database integration or e-commerce, or layout responsiveness.<br /><br />I'll have to jump in some day - I get a lot of requests.
