I connect more with absurdism than nihlism. I do feel that life is without meaning, yet I feel a strong sense of morality. But, I feel that sense of morality is only of my own "free will" which is why I don't buy into derterminism.

So how can nothing matter if I also want to be a good person? How can both exist simultaneously? It's absurd. :)

I have not read Bartelby, maybe I'll check it out.

"What? Einstein went out of his way to prove the theory of relativity in his publishings. It is considered quite accurate to this day. In fact, satellite transmissions, GPS positioning and space transmissions to things like the mars rover would be impossible without the theory of relativity."
No, he didn't. He proved it's true if certain assumptions are true -- but we can never prove these assumptions. I knew GPS was based on Relativity Theory but there may be a better theory in the future... Anyway, I don't really understand Relativity Theory, so let's change the subject... By the way, did you know Newton was a Christian and, supposedly, he said it's ridiculous to think there is no God?

""And in fact, some of modern science is merely a religion.."

Oh really? Do you mean the parts which contradict your beliefs? What a coincidence that would be."
For instance. Another example is anthropogenic global warming and psychiatry (I believe psychopaths are possessed by demons). Let's forget Physics; I don't think it's a good example...

"Besides, this clause of yours is actually damning of religion because it says some science is so bad that it is LIKE religion. It uses religion as a low mark to compare science against."
Yes, false religion is bad... I'm not saying evolution doesn't exist (dog breeds are a product of evolution); I'm saying it's idiotic to think life can evolve without the Creator but people beLIEve it because they don't want there to be a God...

^ A few things. I understand why people, including yourself may feel this way about him. This is not a new thing. I have known people would feel this way since I first heard of him back in 2010. But this is more for conspiracy theory stuff than religion.

But religious fundamentalism is kind of normal in the states (but not like it used to be), especially if west of the Hudson river. I remember hearing various times from people like Dawkins, Hitchens and various psychologists how people become strongly religious is through childhood fear and indoctrination. Then as adults, peoples defense mechanisms

For example, I think we can both agree that a 5 year old has less ability to know a claim about an eternal hot scary place is nonsense than a 20 year old does (assuming they both are hearing it for the first time).

After that 5 year old hears the claim from those he/she loves and trusts, the instincts of that child is to follow and believe. It is an evolutionary survival mechanism. They want to believe their parents are good and rational people. In the young child's mind, what the parents say is correct by default (unless of course the child feels extremely inconvenienced, like when mommy takes away the chocolate bar).

As for bigotry, uncircumcised is probably not a whole lot more bigoted than your typical american west of the Hudson. I don't think he takes moon man seriously and I only think he is just following the herd, or what the herd says is THE holy book about homosexuality. People, espeically adults have a herdlike mentality typically related to the "what to think" rather than "how to think" mentality of parents, politicians, bureaucrats and schools.

Because of this, they are very slow in accepting new evidence, especially that which contradicts things they have been previously taught. It is even worse if you spent years of your life wasted fighting for an unjust cause.

Wow, you faved it, too. Thanks!

I think what triggered this was that "I wouldn't go in the water" site from 2005, where someone synced "Dead niggers!" to the Jaws theme. It totally takes the context out of the quote, and the words themselves aren't actually saying anything racist unless you want them to. It changed my outlook on stuff like that. This was sort of a site in the same mold, I guess.

Wasn't talking about the original clip, I was talking about changing the context, which is the "joke" if you want to call it that. Of course the original audio and video came from somewhere else, just like max took five words from Finding Forrester and made the original ytmnd.
