I've explained this dozens of times over the years but, here goes, once again for the stupid and the uninitiated: 1. YTMND didn't start out as the anus of the internet. There certainly was a plethora of morons here from early on, hundreds of little kids as well as idiot Btards/racists/socially inept fuckers who acted like little kids, but there were also hundreds o extremely savvy, creative, funny users--some young, like mattdh12, some older like typogra, inkdrinker, nutnics, Necromonicon, ryanmontana, MasterSitsu, dascoot, etc. For about three years, I was content to play by the rules and just make sites on the gr33nscr33n account and a few others that never voted. Like any forum user, I bickered with idiots when appropriate, voted honestly and openly (which ALWAYS resulted in revenge downvoting by the idiots), and interacted with the slowly dwindling few who seemed to get what made this site different from 4chan, Newgrounds, and the hundreds of other forums in which one can simply repost stupid shit stolen from somewhere else. Then I watched the place change increasingly for the worst. We all know the story and blame rests pretty much on everyone, starting with max's refusal to act like he cared about the site as much as the primary users did and more or less ending with the flood of trolls who can't get attention anywhere else. <br /> <br />So to answer your question, I stayed active here because I shifted what I got out of the place. Despite your inability to imagine that I am an entirely stable, happy, successful individual IRL, I get near constant "comparable interests" and peer input when I'm logged out of here. All day long, from my wife who went to MIT to my friends who write books, make movies, produce art that, if you were smarter, you might have read or seen to my colleagues and coworkers who literally teach the kinds of classes (maybe even THE classes) you were so proud of yourself for merely taking [...]
