Why not make it so that newly created accounts can vote, but the votes don't take effect for a few days? That way, new people can vote on sites without much hassle; they just have to wait to when they actually have any say instead of going back to all the sites they viewed and voting on them, and also, if a malicious account is made, they can be deleted before they can actually do any damage (if they're stupid enough to vote in that time period, which they quite possibly could be.)

the nesting system is ok but the positive/negative part will just bury different or unpopular views. it will create a comment popularity contest. it will limit expression of honest criticism while reinforcing cliques and stupidity. along with the mod system this will create a YTMND oligarcy not a democracy. Seriously reconsider the +/- business.

"Veteran" users still group up and push stupid and unfunny fads to the front page, just usually not the same fads that they were doing two years ago.

Some decent ideas here but some just would't work. I like the idea of auto delete every month for low rated sites but that presents problems as well. Just because a site is low rated dosn't mean it sucks. It just means it A. Got in at the wrong time B. Isnt' the fad of the moment or NEDM or Brain Peppers or a stupid fad comp site. Anything that has to do with user/voting comment restriction*Sic* wouldn't work either because it will just make poeple not want to register in the first place.

Some people are being so stupid about the YFLY thing and taking it way over the top, "CIVIL WAR OMFG." Just do what you have to do to keep YTMND and the servers going, and don't worry about it. I know a site like this is extremely expensive to keep running smoothly. I don't really consider it selling out; you just cant keep this site up anymore with donations and regular ad companies alone. Google ads just do not pay what they used to as well...

Thats not to say there aren't any good sites being made, there's still a few users with a lot of creativity experimenting with new ideas...

Don't say no to money freely given to make this website be a success. That's just stupid. So certain people donate money to make their site known. Let them. You know they will not always be good, so don't expect too much.

I downvote stupid pink sites. Max id love to help, but all it seems like I (not literally but getting the message) am getting nothing more than a "your stupid, why donate $300?" Kinda thing. That was the only thing I could do without attempting to ask you for other ways of help and getting a reply saying "Go and die."

HEY MAX I was running my bath and I had a great idea: How about a box on the front page that shows sites from only a single user, and that user changes every day. Mods or some bot could be put in place to ensure that it's not some stupid user that's made like two or zero sites. It would be like a Special User of the Day box. Or if that doesn't sit too well with you, how about a box that shows sites randomly chosen from four or five users. How about it? Huh?

At this point I understand where the bitching comes from, as it's a feeling I share. At the same time it's hard not to feel completely helpless, because when it comes down to it, I am managing, coding and maintaining this massive system all by myself. It's easy to complain that I am unresponsive and nothing ever gets done, but I know people would act differently if they saw me sit in my boxers day after day with dark circles under my eyes working 18 hour days on stupid sh*t like functions to censor text.

Would it be feasible to block image and sound assets after they have been used x amount of time (like 5 for image and 200 for sound)? It would really help reduce the amount of junk posted here. I know all someone has to do is change one thing and a new asset ID is created, but most of the idiots who go to the "intrawebs" for site material are too stupid or lazy to figure that out. It would be nice not to hear Spanish Flea as much.

I disagree heavily with skinja, that is an awful idea. Also, no site can turn up your speaker volume and nothing about a loud site makes it NOT SAFE FOR WORK. You should have SFW, NSFW, and IAASPFTCFOHTTDMOSV (I Am A Stupid Pansie F*ggot That Cannot Figure Out How To Turn Down My Own Speaker Volume) settings for users to classify their accounts to access. If you don't want to see gaping anus, you don't want NSFW sites, if you can't figure out your own speakers, disable IAASPFTCFOHTTDMOSV sites.
