Max, if you really believe in the dream you would give this site some sort of moderation. Umfuld's said it a million times and he's right. There are too many cancerous parasites on this site and its gone from thriving, to being comatose and on life support.Users like farkle, santabotai, pilleater, joshcube, johnnylurg and their combined 10.000 alt accounts are what destroyed this place. No one wants to put any effort into creating any content when there are about 10 circle jerking faggots downvoting anything of value and upvoting moonman, santabot, mr.krabs, and party mouse sites. No one wants to view anything because anything of vaule is quickly banished into oblivion and everything on up and coming is vote hacked trash.<br /><br />I understand why you've hesitated so long on moderation but if you really want to resurrect this site then it is the only way. Complete freedom of expression is one of the things that made this place great a long time ago but in the end it appears to be the same thing that's killed it. You have to get some mods and there are still a few quality users here who I'm sure would do it. You could assign mod tiers and promote people when they moderate responsibly and revoke their mod status if they start banning user accounts based personal grudges. You could make it so accounts can't be permanently deleted unless the mods vote on it. Hell you could even be lazy and just have a group of users of your choice get together in chat at a designated time and vote out cancerous user accounts and send the results of the vote to you if you are too lazy to fuck around with the code for a mod system.<br /><br />So do you really care at all about this place max? It made you a pseudo celebrity once. Now it's good for buying you a bottle of grey goose every other week. So will you do something to fix it? Or will you give us another news update in 9 months briefly informing us of a con you will be attending. <br /><br />Also, I'm back bitches.

I suppose if I said I was the smartest guy around or the smartest guy at ytmnd or went to the best school in the world or even something comparable to Ivy League, you might actually have a point there.<br /><br />But considering that most people don't even have a college degree, that automatically places me at an advantage at that regard. No matter what school I went to, I would still have something most Americans do not have (currently 70%). Something that clearly requires a few brains, a bit of talent and some work ethic.<br /><br />But we all know of smart people who have either never went to college or did not complete a degree. Some of them are geniuses. Therefore, it is fair to assume that a degree completer (regardless of where he/she went) obviously has more than a few brain cells to rub together.<br /><br />But then you throw in my admittedly only decent 3.2 GPA, the idea I am stupid becomes harder to swallow. You also have to consider that most of those courses were in the 12th best communications design department in the USA, especially in the later years. I even took on electives for the hell of it while still maintaining the GPA.<br /><br />My alleged stupidity (according to DevilDerrick and you) becomes harder and harder to swallow. Which is the only point I ever needed to prove in this whole argument.<br /><br />But if you allege that Forrest Gump could somehow do all this (which would be insane), does it make sense to think he also worked in 4 different places (plus freelancing gigs) all relevant to that degree, even being a goto guy for technology questions and issues? Do you think Forrest Gump could somehow have figured out far off things like MySQL programming or TV commercial quality 3d animation? Especially learning most of it outside of school?

Also, have you seen their stupid wiki? Look at this, for example. http://ytmnd.wikia.com/wiki/Conflationism They make the claim that "suspected to be Locke5 as per his ban from the Intrepid YTMND Alliance coinciding, because his ban was nearly coincident to this event it would shock some (who prefer to remain anonymous on this article) into thinking that Locke5 downvoted DarthWang in retaliation to his ban from the IYA." Whatever that all means......I never formally "joined" the IYA unless making an account in your message board was joining it....and if I did....when was I ever "banned" from the IYA? Did you ban me from it? Or is "Suzanne Supremo" just making up shit like always? They have made up garbage about me and many other people on that garbage wiki. They make up stupid shit like the "Krooked Kopyfraud Krew"and claim I and other are in it. Maybe I should just make up stupid named for them. Like the "Annoying Assholes that nobody loves IRL Alliance" or something, since they do that shit to me. The one thing I did actually do (sort of) that they have accused me of doing was deleting shit on their wiki because they were using it to attack me. I did that once. It took like 10 minutes. Not repeatedly like they have claimed. It was justified. If I cared enough to put in the effort, I would do it again. Also, by they, I mean SusanTrepid and alts, ReiHino and alts, and probably SantabotAI if he is still around with alts anymore, I am not even sure. BTW, I don't think Lurg has anything to do with any of that. But, like I have said, whatever, none of this shit really matters, I don't need to really retaliate to their foolishness, knowing I have a life and I am not them is good enough for me. It's just annoying to me if you are fine with asshole YTMND-ruining alt trools as long as they suck up to you.

But, I would however add disclaimers along the lines of "The ideas, images, etc. expressed on this websige do not represent the position blah blah blah of YTMND... etc. etc. etc..)
Additionally, maybe a "terms of use" or something before seeing the home page that the user must agree to forfeit all rights.. blah blah blah... something along those lines...
just a thought...
I would get a lawyer if I were you just to see if ebaum has a leg to stand on... (a leg he hasnt stolen from someone else that is...)

Wonder if Bauman can fight the US constitution. Because last I checked people have the right to their own opinions and are free to express themselves how they wish so long as it is not slanderous. This however, is not slander. Something which is slanderous must be a definable true or false statement. If I had gone to the news paper and had them print "Bauman killed my Dad" THAT would be slander seeing as my father is alive. However I can say Bauman is, in my opinion, an idiot. and there is no legal action that can be taken against me. What should we do, practice another right! Protest at their "headquarters", so long as it's a peaceful protest we can do so with signs, chants and whatever creative ideas we have to express our free speech further.

About moderation, I think you're onto something, but I do see problems arising. Often a site you worked hard on will get pushed off the "Last 5 Created" by poorly made sites and in-jokes to friends, and then your site is never heard from again. I like the "Up and Coming" list that relatively recently appeared, as this helps new YTMNDs in their early moments. Moderation of sorts might help ensure that only the good ones make it to the lists. On the other hand, what's to encourage people to moderate? Would sites just end up hanging in limbo for weeks? Perhaps a system rewarding users with points (similar to GameFAQs Karma) for doing it?

I've got this idea to help out people who want to show off their YTMNDs but have no way to do so,
a "shout-out" box on the first page with 10 YTMNDs, if a user "shouts-out" their YTMND it'll be
bumped to the top of this list and will only dissappear when the list is filled again. Another
idea!: Instead of letting users upload any image as their profile image why not use something
like Gaia Online where all the Avatars are different yet alike (bennetton rly?), something like,
i dunno, a 9x6 ASCII (colored) text box that can be edited by users, like this:
by default:
888888888
888888888
888888888
888888888
888888888
888888888
it would cut a lot on image space not to mention make www.ytmnd.com and even more unique site.

^what do you think the risk of an all paid YTMND would be? i dont think we'd lose the more popular posters and addicts, and i think it would affect the overall scores of a lot of sites in a positive way, but so many great sites come from 'idiot savants' who stumble upon something great who otherwise might not sign up, or make two sites and then disappear... that rkelly/milton remix has half a million views and that user has only two sites and barely any votes... begs the question - does the site success really depend on the number of members?

"there should be something that prompts them to vote before it lets them comment." - For the record, I think this is a bad idea because some people just don't like to vote. I'd rather leave a comment than a vote. Also, how do you determine what is a dupe account? My cousin has logged on from my IP a few times - would that get flagged as a dupe acct?

Unfortunately, there's no way to have a site like this without someone accusing you of theft. When I hear people complaining about EBaums stealing from someone that stole something else, it makes me ROFL. Let's be serious. Has Max made quite a name for himself? Hell yeah he has. And he's put in a whole helluva lot of work too. It's not all animated gifs and soundfiles. And when there are complaints about stolen content, who do you think gets to hear about it? Do you think Ronald McDonald and Michael J. Fox get calls or E-Mails demanding the content be removed, or else? No. Max gets to hear ALL of the bull sh*t.
Citing. I have always had a problen with it. It's like stealing, but telling them you stole it and that's supposed to make it okey. But let's say for instance that worked, wouldn't you do it? Hell yes, you would. That's all I have for now.

A sites quality has nothing to do with the number of fads you squeeze in. Based on what I've seen in frontpage comments lately I don't expect it to get better anytime soon. I don't know why frontpage became such a noob sandbox, ebaum probably had something to do with all the new users registering, but damn it sucks somebody post the pic of the azn kid eating 1337 cereals and put it in top 15 lol.

Some things that do work are limiting the max number of tcp sessions at the switch/router level automatically. NATing though will require you to set up whitelists of ips for proxies. Another thing to consider would be blocking requests on the http level, so that the same ip requesting the same url over and over is auto blocked for a set duration of time. We have several solutions like this but everything I know of isn't an out of the box thing, it's all in house code written to do this. Anyone have or know a product/plugin/something that has similar capabilities?

Oh, and about the other entries: Site looks fine to me, and the ideas for the new site creation setup are good. I agree that the gimmick accounts should be banned, but I have a few questions on those, too: are exclusive upvoters/downvoters considered gimmick accounts, and if so, what would constitute being worthy of a ban--say, 50% of votes are 1s/5s, or some other percent? And no, I won't GTFO because if I didn't have YTMND, I'd wind up, you know, doing something useful or, God forbid, going outside.

With regards to the "Original Content Tuesday", how will YTMND know if something is original or not? With an MD5 hash? All someone would have to do is change one pixel in an image or change the volume in a sound file to defeat the hash check.
