Frankly, a good portion of the new "social" features are feature I care nothing about and really won't use.<br /><br />The reason I moved away from my "mantra" of "spend the most time coding the features you (I) will use the most" is that the site was changing in terms of majority traffic. Back at its peak, I was catering mostly to die-hard users who visited the site multiple times a day, and with 2.0 there was a shift in which one of the major goals was to cater to users who only visited once a week/month etc.<br /><br />The idea with most of the new "social" features was to allow users who haven't been here for a while to see what's happened since the last time they visited, and more importantly, try to show them what they care about (i.e. show them sites their friends have made, sites their friends have been favoriting etc).<br /><br />I agree there is much less emphasis on actual YTMNDs themselves, which I don't particularly like. A lot of features got cut or postponed to make the launch date for 2.0, some of which I want to implement in subsequent updates.<br /><br />One example is the customizable front page; which I spent a lot of time on initially. I never really used it, and once I analyzed the usage of it, found that only a few hundred users actually took advantage of the feature. My goal was (and it's now been moved to a future update) rather than make the front page customizable, have the ability to see the front page at any given point in time. We capture a massive amount of statistical data, and with some fairly heavy analysis and caching, we'd be able to show you the front page from yesterday, last week or some random date in 2006.<br /><br />This same analyzation would allow us to give awards to sites (and by proxy, users) like "most viewed site for the month of x" or "highest rated site for the week of y" etc.

Max, are we going to see a renaissance of YTMND? The last time we have a Golden Age of YTMND was back in 2006, and every corner but YTMND died out after the goldne age faded.

I vote for this. Please let nutnics do this, he hasn't just articulated what everyone has been saying (and thinking) perfectly and in a friendly way, but he is offering to help make it better with his known professional expertise. <br /><br />I've only been here for two years and I'm really not ready to see ytmnd die, especially just because people didn't like the way the site looked. I still have a lot of creative energy and free time, and now users I've become friends with seem to be leaving for youtube or anywhere else to continue their work. I can't move on and go somewhere else, it's cold out there.

Here you have, Max. 9 days after the new YTMND layout (also 6 years after start of YTMND) Polish President died in a plane crash. YouTube and Wikipedia also fucked them up. Audio bug makes me want to die. I have 2 weeks off school and work and making dumb ytmnds is all i have to look forward to. I do alot of looking and when i finally get time off to contribute to the madness this poop happens. YTMND IS AWESOME!!

you have good points there. yes, i've been to funny or die. it's great, but the one thing that i always liked about ytmnd is that its more user oriented. all the garbage has always been part of the fun for me, but yeah, it certainly keeps away lots of users.<br /><br />i guess i [i]would[/i] like to see this place grow up and become more like FoD or other places like that. that's what will save it.<br /><br />i guess i'm agreeing with you. not that i was ever totally against you on the subject. 100% of my responses to you here were for the sole purpose of being a wiseass and making you respond. especially my above comment about fascism.<br /><br />so yes, i would like a more rigid front page format, but i also wouldn't want to totally loose the internet-garbage aspect all together.

ytmnd reminds me alot of petter pan in the child theif, a blood thirsty manchild making friends until he gets bored with them and then kills them all the while not realizing his world is dying around him

there should be a section on the new front page where users can post pictures of themselves. like, it could be called "Pick List" and we could like, post pics from facebook or just mirror pics or like pics of whatever. i was edward cullen for halloween, and i've been dieing to get my costume pics onto ytmnd. i looked really good. i had sex that night. with a big fat pirate in the bathroom at a party. that is not a lie.<br /><br />plus, i really want to see all kinds of real life user related stuff, like what cereal max ate for breakfast or what toilet paper brand feels the best on fourest's butt. like, if i could see a fourest-uploaded pic taken from the view of him sitting on the toilet, and you can see the opened Charmin Ultra Soft pack sitting next to the tub and like fourest's leg is blurry in the bottom corner of he pic, haha! that would be awesome.<br /><br />if you could upload .txt files or microsoft word files, that would be cool. i wanna read poetry, short stories, emails, journal entries, whatever. if a user made it, i wanna see it.<br /><br />everything i said is a lie. not the fat pirate part, unfortunately. i was fingering her butt and eating her out. i'm still waiting for my lips to break out and the roof of my mouth to turn to liquid.

oh i also got an idea, if I write a really big article on the history of ytmnd and how it has died and became a zombie right around the time a new site design gets rolled out, and I post it on digg, and I get ALL YOU COOL GUYS to help get it popular MAYBE WE CAN GET THE SITE POPULAR AGAIN

In addition to this, I've been working with Big Spaceship over the last month working on a new design, which I'll be implementing as well. If I have the remaining time, I'll be fixing up the admin panels and possibly adding some new mods.<br /><br />So this is your chance to complain about anything (aside from the design) that's been bugging you recently or stuff you've been dying for.<br /><br />I'll keep you guys updated over the next few weeks in between eating handfuls of adderall. Please provide useful feedback and bug reports. While I'm working on the new codebase, I'm going to be moderating with an iron fist.
