He's making enough to buy that car in one year before his living expenses are subtracted from his gross annual income. Thus he gets a loan, and doesn't have to worry about not being able to pay cash for a car that would otherwise be out of his means. Granted, it'll be hanging over him for years, and he'll be paying something more along the lines of $70k, but such is life.
