These are a few of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite books. I always read this book around winter, and it's getting close.

J.D Salinger = PHAIL....source, Wikipedia ".....Salinger tried Dianetics (later called Scientology), even meeting L. Ron Hubbard himself, .....This was followed by a number of spiritual/medical/nutritional belief systems including Christian Science, teachings of Edgar Cayce, homeopathy......vomiting to remove impurities...... drinking one's own urine etc"
1 because of scientology. all the people who criticized GodRMK FAIL, since by reading and supporting this book you are supporting the sales of a book which its profits may be donated to Scienteology causes, as we all know once a member always a member unless your dead! Heres a better example, would you support a site which cited something from Ebaumsworld. Yeah, the material may be funny and cool by itself, but the fact you are encouraging and supporting ebaumsworld makes you a traitor to YTMND!
hehe sometimes I feel like I go under a lot of stress then I remember the main charater in this book in how he had grey hair.
As for the guys who critize this piece of material, you need to stop polarising yourself in idoligies. Yes he may have been into scientology, but the book is about a kid finding himself, as trying to make it on his own, and finding true meaning behind things. You can't have somebody be wrong on one thing to explain your reason for everything else he did was wrong. (cont...)
(cont) For example, the christian bible, it's filled with circular logic and represive stuff. If you were to say that the bible is evil, just because it rejects gays and has been used as an excuse for black slavery in america doesn't mean it's all bad, the bible does say that compassion is good and what's wrong with compassion. People need to break this habbit of supporting themselves in idoligical beliefs. Don't be a Neo Cons and see everything as black or white. Hate the book for the book not the man.
I'm kind of conflicted about this. I feel so tempted to down vote just because I haven't read the book and downvoting something just because you don't understand it is definately the cool thing to do. Also This is just quotes with pic and music, so again feel like dv, but will abstain since it's possibly a good book and it won't do me any good 2 dv anyway.
I like this idea, It's different. This could parts of YTMND into a different route. It's good to get away from the dry humor every once in a while, and this site did the trick. I definitely hope more of these get made. I 4'd it because I hear Salinger was a Scientologist. Other then that Fruity Mcgay gay'ness . I salute you sir. .also c*cks.
Why is that book so baaaaaad. And overrated -- every kid to come out of high school throws the book around to signify their apparent enlightened state of mind. "Wow man, this book is so like me! We're all [cheesy Junior-year English class teacher bullsh*t], and it makes ME feel like a catcher in the rye..." Grats. You now understand the meaning of life. THE BOOK WAS NOT THAT GOOD. Apart from being an excellent example of writing style, it's just more bullsh*t leftover from a wasted generation.
Great book, anybody saying its emo should realize that they are way more into the emo sh*t than Salinger was... This book was written a long time ago, and you're the ones saying "emoemoemoemoemoemoemo." Go hump a log. This site is good, and I'm reading the book again this winter break. Thanks tricolor.
Emos are like hippies. Here's a story: The beatnicks came along during the 1950s and were the philosophical and artistic leaders of their time. They listened to jazz, for the most part, and experimented with drugs, as many of them were semi-existentialists. So what happened? Their ideas and values flooded into the mainstream, they became watered down and littered with the ideas of common man. Pop culture ruined one counterculture, and turned an aberration into a festering necessity, which all the cool
kids rapidly took part of. Their motives being fitting in, sex, drugs, and inflating their egos. Anybody who was not like them was, in many of their minds, a fool and an evil person. They viewed themselves as misunderstood, etc, though their ideas were hugely idealistic and impossible to enact given human nature (which, ironically, they were following. If they had been living in Hitler's Germany they would have marched in line with everybody else). So, for the slow witted reader, I'll connect the dots.
There are various brilliant minds, intellectuals, artists, musicians, all the like, who create wonderful things. Honestly, being intelligent is difficult, and a skeptic mind is generally a miserable mind-particularly at a young age. That is one thing that Salinger was presenting, and I'm sure that Salinger himself went through a similar phase. It's called Weltschmertz, or world hate. I know Hemingway went through it, and if you think he's 'emo,' so help me god...
That explains some aspects of the dilemma, but you're not mentioning the dangerous fact that "emo" is being broadened to the point that it can be used to describe cancer patients and dejected orphans. The original usage of "emo" is great, as I hate fake attention-seekers. The evolving "emo" is engulfing anything involving feelings other than pure joy or buttsecks, however.
Anyways, with all of these great works of art focusing on the self lamenting of the intelligent youth, it's only natural that some of it would become mainstream, similar to the beatnick's ideas and values. This has manifested, as you all know, in the form of emos. Normal, cool kids who act like depressed f*cks for attention and other things, which I pointed out earlier with the hippies. Now it's impossible to create anything remotely depressing or sad, because it will be immediately labeled as emo.
Well now you're just being emo... j/k. I hear ya. There's honestly a ton more to it, like where emo originated from (mid-80s form of punk music which sounds nothing like modern emo). Also, 'gothic' music like Joy Division or Bauhaus (1970s) having a label which has now been given to such sh*t as Mudvayne and other mallcore. But yea, it's the dilemma of every era. Humans really suck balls. Just read Nietzsche and become ubers, that's my advice.
I'm really into novels, but I absolutely hated this book. Here, let me sum it up for those who haven't read it: Everyone is phoney except for Holden - he thinks himself as the most badass person in the entire world. Everyone else is wrong. He holds himself up on a goddamn pedestal the whole book, portraying himself as so great, that'd he'd be the one catching the kids in the wheat field. Imagine every page of this book following this premise and you will then know how painful it is to read.
