Technically, the result only tends toward +/- infinity as the denominator approaches zero; one could also say that the limit of the dividend is +/- infinity (as a way of saying that the limit does not exist) as the denominator approaches zero. To say that the dividend IS +/- infinity is, strictly speaking, mathematically incorrect; the dividend is undefined.
