The old intro was kickass. I didn't like it when they only did the second half of it and the song went into the main theme right during the contestant intros.

By the way, for those keeping score, this was the theme that was used from the debut in 1984 until 1991. The 1991-1997 version is the same as this, but with a bongo line overlaid and, sadly, the first ten bars cut out during the intro. The 1997-2002 theme

is an orchestral rearrangement of the original melody, and the 2002-current theme is a (IMO) more impactful rendition of the 1997 theme.
