I just wanted to say that I don't circle jerk. I vote a lot like Coconutman: easy-going, way too forgiving, and not harsh enough sometimes. I can't believe you would put me in the same group as BloodyPython who obviously does circle jerk because his sites reach up and coming really quickly (mine don't) and then fall off once the real voters see the piece of sh*t (if it is "good", it stays up there). I am sad that gr33ns has actually been convinced by umfuld, but whatever I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

a few thoughts on this surprisingly rational conversation: to call something a cancer (a 4chanism) first of all implies a sense of nostalgia, in this case, no doubt over the halcyon days when a topviewed site could get over 9000 in a day, and although valid, there's no going home again. basically, although some ppl's voting practices do need reforming, I don't think it's really what's eroded the ytmnd user base.

most casual readers of these sites don't care about what this community takes into account when voting, things like file size restrictions, etc, so once an entrenched, experienced user leaves, which is bound to happen after a few years, there's less new users to replace them. one of the few benefits of upvoting that no one's mentioned is the encouragement it gives new creators. now, true, bad sites still don't deserve a 5, but that's why the dependability of downvoters comes in handy.

a better tactic to change voting habits, rather than calling people out on a comment page (some folks don't even look at the comments page), i'm thinking there should be more sites instructing people how to vote. not a new concept, I know, but maybe there ought to be more of it. you know, umfold, like take the Batman election episode and have adam wee chastise injustice. bat upvoter repellant.

And I was having great fun arguing with you when I logged into it. You were so surprised. I was actually comment upvoting all the comments you downvoted, which is rare but a spur of the moment thing. I think it is a little funny that I had to be a little drunk and blatantly argue with my alt for you to notice.

I swear, you can't get popular on ytmnd without someone questioning the validity of their scores or "talent". The simple truth is that the masses don't share the same interests as you. Also I am not trying to be a martyr silly. I am just a guy who is getting tired of the grief and can sympathize with some other users that left. "How can you possibly not get what umfuld is talking about?" Oh I understand exactly what he is talking about, but having a good vote spread means investing way too much into ytmnd.

Why? I did it because it was fun, I guess. I wanted to see if anyone would notice, to create some drama. And it did give a slight bump, maybe saving one or two sites from obscurity. It's okay though gr33nscr33n, I still like you because you are reasonable. Fourest and I are similar in certain ways, and when I get the ratings I do, its easy to assume that I have an army of alts like him. But, I only have one, honestly. I am not trying to hide anything. Yes, maybe I am downplaying it, but that it.

Member since 2009-3-28. Also, I know ochobobo, however he had an idea for another site and i was happy to see he finished it.. but i laughed when i got the response of "i dont feel like trying cuz i know ill lose so heres neo anderson" which ironically made me laugh real hard.
