We all know that ostriches are not even in the top 3 most interesting long necked animals, and I'm pretty sure they don't dwell in forested regions, but, despite the relatively uninteresting subject and unrealistic setting, there's something here to like, something that you just won't find on a prairie or with a mongoose - not that the mongoose has a long neck, mind you, but it's just rather uninteresting and acts as a convenient counterpoint - although I can't put my finger on it.
