In the 2001 Kyoto Daishoten, Stay Gold raced against T.M. Opera O and Narita Top Road. He subsequently won the race but was disqualified due to suddenly dashing in front of Narita Top Road in an attempt to crash into T.M. Opera O, causing Narita Top Road's jockey to fall off. This caused mental distress to Narita Top Road who took about a month to recover from this incident before he could continue racing professionally.
