You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover

Hello buds,
A good deal of exciting news on the forefront. First up is that after months of bugging the company who makes the software which turns our GIFs into SWF, they sent us the C++ source code for the GIF portion of the code and davidc managed to track down the bug. Now we're just waiting for them to send us a new version of the binary and we'll be ready to do another test. A little more about this at YTMND Development Blog. You can also view the source code of the new flash template here.
Next up is that the refactor is now being worked on at least 30 hours a week. We have the new design for YTMND.com. I've spent the last few months slowly rewriting all of the core libraries where needed and the dev site is beginning to come together. It's coming.
I know I'm guilty of prematurely announcing features, and I don't want you all too excited. It's still probably a couple months off, as this is a rewrite of 90% of YTMND's code base, as well as a 100% rewrite of the HTML and Javascript. So much of what currently runs YTMND was written in 2004 and 2005, and I've learned a lot since then. I'll try to update the dev blog frequently about what I'm working on and the progress. At some point in the future people will be needed to beta test the new site, as everything down to the login system has been completely rewritten.
I just got the new designs last week so I've been chopping them up. I know you all want a peek, but be patient my prettys.
T-shirts are still coming in, but this week I'm sending off some designs to the printer to do some test prints and see which designs end up looking good and which will fall apart after a few runs through the washer. I've got an actual third party on the store, so this time around things should be more organized. I'll post more information sometime next week on what designs we chose.
Some of you may have noticed that your votes are showing up delayed, or you are able to comment more frequently than previously allowed. This is due to DB maintenance which is required for the transition to the new code base, and it will continue for the next few weeks. Please try not to abuse the site at this time or you will receive swift punishment.

large psd versions of my shirt designs are available if any of them get chosen, and I mean, c'mon, one of them will get made, right? I mean, it would really suck if none of my designs make it onto an actual shirt, right? I mean, after all the goddamn time I have spent and all the hours of my life I have poured into this site, you could at least print one lousy v-neck, right? HAHAHAHAHAHA!
shadydragon: sorry, that doesn't sound like it would work too well. Sometimes I like to look at other sites by the same author. Also, the 2-vote system sounds stupid. This isn't a password that you need to set and verify. I like that you can always change your vote because sites can change and so can your opinion of them.
*****To prevent upvoting and downvoting, I would like to propose that the viewer MUST vote on the site BEFORE they are able to view who the creator is. But you say what if they make a mistake and click 4 instead of 5? this is why there would be 2 sets of stars. if in one set the user clicks 4 and in the other they click 5, they must revote until both votes match. Votes can only be changed [x] number of days after the original vote to prevent people from going back instantly and revoting. Opinions?
I don't think a hidden system would be of great benefit because people will just PM each other with their new sites and it will usually be pretty obvious what user or group have made the site. It might work in that users that are not liked a whole lot will get fairer ratings, but the system is easily exploited.
I think the biggest problem is the lack of voting users in general. If we had more frequent voters, the upvoting and downvoting issues would be balanced out. Still I like the idea of chosen or mandatory anonymity. As it is now, some sites RC might get a rating over 4 but only 10 votes, and die. I'm not concerned so much about the ratings but if a site is getting over 4 and it gets no attention, there is something wrong. I can't really blame most users though: the chances of finding a gem in RC is unlikely.
If we need more votes, we need more users, and this site died months ago. The amount of active users, view counts on most viewed etc. have dropped dramatically since I first joined in 2007. This site depends on the users, and if nobody is using it then it's gonna be boring and stale. We need more users contributing before we can solve the problem. Also, I think giving anonmity a trial wouldn't hurt, but is there any point in implementing such a system when most new content is complete and utter sh*t anyway?
Come on now. No one sees the site unless it's on the frontpage. The other pages of up and coming have always been worthless. Since you don't make sites very often I guess you don't understand why its really devastating to be limited to a very small number of votes and views. It's really hard to be motivated to make good sites when that's all you have. I hate to sound selfish, but attention is the only thing you get to indulge in when making sites, since you don't get paid.
instead of using this anonymous crap why not just have U&C randomize what you see from the top 7 pages or show sites you havent voted on. having someone thats anonymous is going to in the long run change the average point value of a site by .1-.2? honestly. if all i do is downvote every crappy site i see im probably going to wind up seeing more crappy sites ive already seen in which case all that downvoting is pointless.
Hey Max- if you wind up choosing either of my designs, they're Flash vector files, so I can give them to you at any resolution you need. Also, if you test print one of those suckers and find it has small details that are hard to print, I could easily edit the images to be simpler and bolder. (Eliminating tiny details, drawing a flatter mullet, etc)
Press [-] if you'd rather press [+], and press [+] if you'd rather press [-]. Also, if you're unsure, press [+] and [-] simultaneously (or do nothing at all). If you press either [+] or [-] more than once in a row if you're retarded, unless you press [+] 25 times in a row followed by pressing [-] 13 times in a row, in which case you just sent a vote for John McCain back in time to November 4, 2008, where its existence will be made in a random voting machine located somewhere in the Midwest.
To do the same for Barack Obama, press [+] 11 times in a row, followed by [-] 36 times in a row. To send a time-traveling vote for Ralph Nader, simply tilt back your head and scream the binary representation of the number 823,092 (in two's compliment). If you want fries with that, say so before you get to the second window you f*cking assclown. Press [reply] to any comment if you'd like to voice your meaningless opinion amongst a large gathering of meaningless people.

How about judging from the prologue? -->You'd think it would be impossible to cough up your own intestines from the flu, or get so dehydrated that your stomach cracks open and your regurgitate all of your internal organs. I don't know how you expect to drink water when you are too weak to stand and you've lost your crazy straw -- plus you better finish it all or you might drown, from the inabilty to raise your head high enough out of the toilet water. It was only an act of fate that your t-shirt was half

A New York City resident, Goldberg registers a tone of dispassionate wonder at the phenomenon he has let loose on the Web and makes little attempt to explain its popularity. He is known for having created the first YTMND site. [edit] Penchants Max enjoys drinking Grey Goose vodka and deleting users/YTMNDs. [edit] History * In July 2006 max entered a Snakes on a Plane contest which rewards the fan with the most votes with a free sreening of the movie along with 100 friends. As a special thankyou to the YTMNDers who have voted for him, max has offered to take YTMNDers from the NYC area to the screening. However, his place in the fan contest was removed because the managers of the SOAP fan contest discovered that someone had been votehacking his name. His votes were restored a few days before the end of the contest.
