and the complaints come marching in

As many of you have noticed by the anti-ebaum sentiment, last night things seemed to reach boiling point.
I tried to stop this all when it was a snowball, but it just turned into an avalanche. I'd like to make an open statement to the community, in regards to DDoS. Don't do it. It sets a whole new precedent and will not end well, it affects a lot more than just ebaum sworld and really crosses the line.
I think there is a general distaste for ebaumsworld in the internet community and things just exploded last night. While I never supported or condoned the attacking anything, I was amazed to see so many communities come together for a vulgar display of power. I think there is something to be said for communities coming together for a common goal, even if it is over something so petty.
Soon the YTMND forums will be back up and I'm sure at that point the ebaumers will get a chance to strike back at our little community and the circle of life will be complete. Until that time, since I know I can't persuade you guys to stop, at least keep it legal.
I now have a ton of clean-up work to do. If you see any "DDoS" or "Ping" related YTMNDs, please use the report this site feature so I can delete them.

There's a MAJOR difference between YTMND and eBaum: No one makes money off of YTMND, and all cash flow goes toward the support of the site. Bauman makes a living off of his site. So while both are certainly infringing on copyright, YTMND has the parody angle working for it (especially considering all the derivative works otherwise known as fads), where eBaum is outright theft. In the case of the Six Flags guy for example, YTMND is perfectly willing to take down sites upon the request of the owner. EBaum? He'd much rather dare real companies to look like bullies and sue him, ignore requests to remove content, and attempt to DDoS other communities that request en masse for the removal of content they own.
YOUNGSTER. You call us nerds with no lives and low muscle mass, yet you spent 2 hours (so far) rabidly popping in here talking trash. You are the biggest nerd of this thread and I'd f*ck you up if you weren't a pussy insulting people over the internet. You're probably just as nerdy or at best a f*cking lowlife wigger. Go f*ck yourself.
let the courts settle this mess, you users of YTMND and Ebaumsworld aren't helping this, you're actually acting like kamikaze's. Destroying the site we care about by acting like morons on ebaumsworld won't help YTMND now will it? please let Max and Eric, and Newgrounds, and gamespot, and all other affiliates handle this
lol this isn't a chatroom. What these f*ckers don't get is that the _____ doesn't change facial expressions came from THIS f*ckING SITE. It's been a fad that I've hated for weeks now, and now it's become the center of a detestable "war". We don't own the pictures OR the music, but the IDEA belongs to us collectively (so long as the ACTUAL creator feels that way). We should get the traffic that this kind of attention would bring, and that's why we (as a group, now) hate ebaums. I hate ebaums as much as teh next person, but why add fuel to the fire? lol another joke. Though I think it's f*cking awesome that there was a multi-forum strong alliance that rose up in the wake of it. Glad to see that people will sit down and fight when needed. In short, go back to making ytmnds that are funny, and let karma decide who the *sshole is.
By posting on the forum, they are supporting eBaum? Good logic, considering more than half of the members don't know eBaum steals. That's like saying by being an American, we all support Bush. People go to that forum because it's popular it's a fun discussion place with many other members. Not because they support eBaum. Grow up guys, and try to comprehend what your goal in all of this is, if even one arises.
"But by being on his forum and posting there they are obviously supporting the man"
Untrue. Not entirely, though. But mostly. I mean, there's all sorts of forums out there. We could be at somethingawful, but have to pay money to join, or join the legions of nerds at any WoW site, but we don't. eBaums is the best forum we've discovered; it's filled with funny posters that we enjoy seeing in action and because it's an official forum, we won't (or don't have to)worry about having it shut down prematurely. Besides, we all agreed that the YTMND forums just weren't that great.
Okay, now I have to ask: what do you guys "win" anyway? Even if eBaums has gone down, what good does that do? Does all of his money suddenly go to you? Do the heavens open up and take all the sinners away? Does YTMND become the new "king of the Internet?" I mean, if you can't come up with something other than "we got the bastard!" then what's the point?
Ytmnd forums are of a different breed. Their brand of vile humor guaranteed 1 good laugh per visit. Plenty of times has it been more entertaining than the front site. The same can not be said of ebaum's forums, what with the stringent moderating going on. I'm not saying it wasn't entertaining, but the ultimate goal was not a good laugh through AOLer actions/behavior. Of course, this is not everyone's taste... In any case, it's funny as hell that they are down again. Don't forget that we came to these sites to laugh in the first place.
I agree with Blackeye. There will be some serious repercussions not too far down the road, although our warriors did pull off a good job. I wouldn't start celebrating too soon. But this little incident does go to show how much of a powerful tool the internet can be. It's funny that YTMND isn't the only anti-ebaum site. SomethingAwful.com doesn't like ebaumsworld either. So in a way... WATMND (We're all the man now, dog). Just brace yourselves for the eventual backlash. Hail Max.
For example, if max had problems with getting people to visit YTMND, he'd probably have to charge less for the advertisements he puts on the site or else lose advertisement revenue altogether. Once that happens, max would have less money to buy new servers and maintain the current ones, among other things. He may be forced to get a job (not sure if he has one now aside from maintaining YTMND), spend less time maintaining the site and whatnot. This leads to even less hits and eventually just becomes an unprofitable mess. The final solution: deletion.
So say, like the lemon demon song, eBaum has his dumb website erased. I'm sure that'll be satisfying. But again, why the forums? What was the point of attacking the forums when the main site was the target? Even if it's the most popular feature, that doesn't make it right to destroy it. There's no real way to justify the actions here.
I'm not arguing the fact that you guys believe eBaum should be taken down. That part I kinda get, even though you're blowing things out of proportion. And in reality, my words here don't mean much anyway. Hell, even "The Raid" of the forums wasn't THAT bad (very entertaining, really). But the moment you officially went in and hacked the place, well, that was just rediculous. And all because of a gif that really wasn't all that funny to begin with? Keep in mind, it's not like eBaum goes to YTMND and just picks out what he likes. Most, if not all of his content is submitted through emails. So that means that someone saw the site, sent the image to eBaum, eBaum liked it and posted it on his site (without any special treatment; it got watermarked just like everything else). and besides, as said time and time again, "hosted on" doesn't mean "created by." It's easy to get confused, but that doesn't make it a lie.
The point of this whole war is that Eric has gone too far. Keep in mind that the Lindsey Lohan ytmnd is not the only thing that was blatantly stolen without permission or consent of any kind. This has been going on for a while now, but this is the first time that something has been so obviously ripped straight from YTMND, and because 99% of the material on this site comes from random, internet-browsing people with ideas, there is a more tightly-knit community here than is present on other sites which Eric has stolen from. He made a bad move by stealing from YTMND. I'm sure that many who are participating in this war do so with the intention of sending a message to Eric: that this has got to stop, that this is what happens when your content-stealing goes too far: someone is bound to retaliate.
In this case, the only thing that most YTMND members can do is over-ping his site and spam his forums until they go down (which they have). To those of you who just enjoy ebaum's world for the community that is present there: sorry to say it, but you are no more than casualties of war. Whether you realize it or not, you are supporting Eric by regularly visiting his site and posting on his forums, and you will be percieved as such. As in any war, there is no right or wrong, just two different opinions. The goal of this war is to spread awareness of the underhanded methods by which Eric does business, and to put a stop to it, whether it be by his decision, or by forcibly hacking and bringing down his entire site (which may very well happen if this war goes on very much longer or escalates).
I think a more practical use of time and server space would be to directly counter EBaumsWorld with another website (NotEBW, for example). Steal content directly from EBaumsWorld, discern its source location and post it in similar format with the EBW watermark overlaid with a "created by" watermark. Sell ads, sell *ss and make cash off of something that EBaumsWorld actually does rather poorly. It'd take money, but it'd be a direct way to criticize EBaumsWorld legally and effectively.
I've never been here b4, but I am a frequent @ ebaums, and just wanted to say that anything that happened at least on my part is terrible, but on the same hand probably going to happen. My question is how u know it was bauman who wrecked your site? What if it was someone trying to plan the whole thing knowing a retaliation against ebaums was gonna happen. I didn't even know about YMNTD until this whole thing happened, but anyways, I don't think this site is going to last, as i'm sure there are currently people trying to hack this site. It's just so sad that two sites are going to be destroyed over an argument with a small few.
To say that "hosted on" and "created by" doesn't make a difference is ignoring the point. No matter how much you argue it, never, even in the slightest form of technicality does eBaum claim that he made the content. You can't argue it. Look it up in every dictionary, and you will find that the definitions don't match.
You are right that the definitions don't match, but you are ignoring the point. Ebaums World gets the credit, thus attracting more traffic. Whatever someone else told you the problem was, forget it. The problem is that ytmnd will benifit none from it (in the form of traffic), whereas ebaumsworld WILL get more traffic.
Lohan was never one of the greatest fads of YTMND anyway. Picard I would understand, but let's face it: "so and so doesn't change facial expressions" was two things. It was unoriginal, as animations like that have been around forever. but not only that, it wasn't even that great to begin with (with the exception of Han Solo, but that's because it bent the rules).
I'll agree with you on that, Jacrabbitsd87, but the thing that bothers me is how EBaumsWorld gets their content. On their main page, they announce that they are looking for "original content" to host on their website. Nothing's wrong with that as long as a user doesn't steal someone else's content and sell it to be hosted on EBW. By not taking this stolen content down when the creator requests it to be, EBW is being an accessory to a crime. And as Sonic put best, "That's no good." I wouldn't give a rat's *ss if EBW took down stolen content rather than continue hosting it illegally.
But, even if it does give eBaum more hits, he's still TECHNICALLY not doing anything other than hosting the sites. It's like when a movie says "presented by Quentin Tarantino," causing several people to see the movie because they think the man had something to do with it. It's sneaky, it's slightly dishonest and it's annoying; but there are no rules being broken.
It's been interesting following this "war" since I found out about it the day after "YTMND-Day" but I must say this is very upsetting to a dedicated YTMND user like myself. Granted the raid was one thing but the hacking just gets ridiculous and I think it is only going to cause all of us who love YTMND a lot of misery in the future from Erik's schemes. If you really want to get rid of his stealing I'd say it's best to gather together everyone who has had content stealing committed against them and to submit a formal complaint of sorts against ebaumsworld. Collectively I'm sure that our resources can get rid of this threat to original content creators everywhere... Regardless I have a bad feeling that dark days might be in store for YTMND with this craziness, Max is a great guy and I'm glad he's clamping down on this because it's bad for all of us who truly love this place. If you really want to help Max and this site stay alive and well, donate money like I've done to help get the new content server!!!
I agree with you that the facial expression fad was not that great. However, whoever put that together might prefer that the traffic go to the site that it was submitted to. I cannot speak for everyone, but if it hadn't been watermarked, I doubt that this large of a fuss would have been made. We all just wanted a laugh, anyway.
"I cannot speak
for everyone, but if it hadn't been watermarked, I doubt that this large of a fuss would have
been made."
That is what's truly bothering me. I'm thinking the same thing. And that just shows how hypocritical YTMND was in that reason. The whole "purpose" of this "war" becomes even more lost when you realize that YTMND is only out to help itself, isn't it?
That wouldn't be bad, shakezula. Except for one thing: it's already in place. Bauman (it seems) has a policy to pay for people to submit original content. Unfortunately, lately much content has been stolen without the creator's permission. Well-intentioned or not, EBW has violated the law in several ways.
Watermarkgate. lol sorry couldn't resist. Anyway, you are right. This IS about YTMND. Traffic is the lifeblood of any website. Agreeing with you on all points, realize that this is the only response we're capable of. That doesn't make it right, but how can it be stopped? Both sites have made me laugh, this is true, but YTMND is not as well known as EBW. We would like to see the site grow, for Max's sake, as well as this twisted brand of humor that we have come to embrace. While I'm with Max in not condoning what's happened to the forums there (or anything on the site in general), I would like to see credit given where it's due. But since it won't happen, it's really a moot point. I'm content to enjoy the show. In a week or two, this will be nothing more than a funny little memory.
CJayC and the mods REALLY don't want GameFAQers a part of this, even the NEWS topic on Random Insanity which said nothing about organizing an effort for GameFAQers to attack, just had news and speculation, got deleted. The 4 locked ones that had hit 500 (or 501 or 502) got deleted prematurely as well.
from the ebaum forums
"There seems to have been a problem with the database.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, whom you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience."
what did I miss????
I remember back then when people from the LUE part of gamefaqs put the whole site in jeporady after users from the site vandalized a shrine of a person who had died. I bet CJayC doesn't want anything as controversial as that happening again. He took some precautions by sealing LUE forever and limiting to members who joined and signed up for access to the LUE boards (closed for awhile). Also it violates the TOS of the site.
