pressure drop

I've spent a few hours updating the TODO list and posted it up here. Check it out and discuss it inside.
Also for those of you that didn't catch it the Washington Post published an article on Sunday about YTMND. Check it out Online or in print. You are now allowed to officially call yourselves artists.
edit:let's see if this doesn't crash the server, presenting: YTMND Spy.
also: if I haven't responded to you about the SoaP screener it's because I got about a billion requests. I don't know how I'm going to choose but I'll wait until I get word, so as not to count my chickens before they hatch.

A weighted voting system is a great idea in theory. However because of the people who use this site the end effect would have to be greatly neutered, I cannot picture it not being abused. Also Trash or Treasure I think is a bad idea simply because you'll get groups of individuals killing sites for fun.
I have an idea. There's this pathetic raid going on by some NEDM people who keep posting that cat video. Would it be possible to block the MD5 hash of certain assets? Perhaps you could recognize when certain blocked videos or sounds (the cat video, anime, DBZ..) are uploaded, and then display some sort of 'I am a douche' image, or something.
The Spy seems to be cool coding that's unfortunately ripe for abuse. Honest votes on worthless sites will be discouraged because of the completely justified fear of revenge downvoting. And revenge downvotes of good sites will skyrocket. It seems like a case of too much information to me. Maybe only admins should be able to see names in The Spy - the rest of us see the action, but don't see who did it? Just a thought...
wow, my fellow brethren are retarded. in response to the news: i read the to do list... i'm not a fan of the myspace all idea or the actual information profile... this isn't myspace, it's ytmnd. (aren't we "at war" with them anyway?). also avatars are a little lame. im also against the customizing the homepage.. i think it'd be easier for us all in terms of communication if the page was uniform. lastly, i checked out the new homepage design and i'm wondering if the top rated, top viewed, etc. sites will still be accesible directly from the homepage. grazie.
"Sitsu, are you really against more views?, 400 vote is reasonable..500 would have been perfect." - yes, i'm really against it. 300 votes puts a site on up and coming around 4 hours, 500 votes puts it up half the day or more. thats a whole lot less sites on up and coming as a whole, makes it harder to wade through the crap, and classic style/dew army/cult reference (aka half of moneyhats material, heh) sites that inherently get a 3.8, no longer get their chance. the Main page is dumbed down and we know it.. raisign the vote count just compounds the problem IMHO.
I agree with some of that Sitsu. But now, less ppl will be inclined to bum rush the midnight hour, and will submit their sites whenever. 400 votes could warrant 6,000-8,000 views a day (b^^)b The onus should lie on the YTMNDers themselves to correctly evaluate the sites they vote for. 3.8 ratings would fade even in the 300 vote limit. a m i r i t e ?
"The onus should lie on the YTMNDers themselves to
correctly evaluate the sites they vote for." That gives me an idea. What about a button that says "Top 15 Worthy" attached to every YTMND. The sites with the most "Top 15 Worthy" votes throughout the day get pushed into the up and coming at midnight. Mind you, this will all be worthless once the new front page comes out but...
Better idea: scrap the current Top 15, and replace it with the Top Viewed within the last 24 hours. (Sounds similar to current one, but note the "last 24 hours" part.) Only views from now to 24 hours ago--and not a minute more or less--would count towards their presence in the list, so it will change often, not just every midnight.
I read a couple comments about people wanting to do something against people who give mainly 1's and 5's, and I just like to say that not everybody goes on this site to critique the works of everybody else. When I see a site I really dislike, I give it a 1. When I really like the site, I give it a 5 and sometimes favorite it. I simply do not bother with the votes in between. I see too many 'in between' sites to give them all a 2, 3 or 4. I'm not an up/down voter, and for my votes to be worth less is not really fair.
