i showed someone some sites i made, along with that murdarmachene site about taco salad and i also showed the (pppttttt) new talent on 60 mins site. he loved all of them and said "wait, so people make these and upload them with their own separate urls, and people vote on them?" he even thought the gay inside jokes were funny before i even explained some of them. he thought my parody of fourest's clint eastwood site was insanely funny, just because it was so strange. keep in mind, this person is a major media snob, kind of like gr33nscr33n but a little younger. he said "i want in" and "show me how you make these" so i briefly explained the format and linked him ytmnd.com. he had no idea what the fuck it was, didn't know how to find other funny sites, and didn't bother trying for more than 30 seconds. i said "yup, sounds about right."

true story

Here's my feedback.

Your site is basically a looped YouTube video with different audio, right? You didn't make the video, and you didn't make the audio. I'm cool with that as long as you can make something new with it. For me, this isn't much different than the original video. Yeah, the audio is technically different, but it doesn't really change the concept. It's still a time-lapse of Noah aging. So this rates about a 2 for me. If you are interested in how I generally vote on sites, have a look at the comment section for rip-nujabes.ytmnd.com.

I'm not really a good representative of the average YTMND voter, though, so I'll try to address what others might think of this site. Some will automatically downvote this because the Noah thing is old and we've seen it all before. Some will automatically upvote this because the audio and image make sense together. Some will automatically downvote this because it's not funny to them. Some will automatically upvote this simply because of They Might Be Giants. Some will automatically downvote this because it's "stolen."

I'd like to also point out that a site like this would probably have done pretty well back in 2006/2007, what many consider to be the "Glory Days of YTMND." There were a lot of users who were more than happy to give 5's to anything that was halfway entertaining. Not to mention that there was far more traffic back then, meaning that rather than getting a measly 3 votes and 105 views, you'd probably have at least 20 votes and 1,000 views. Times have changed, and this place has become a bit more barren. It's much harder now to have a successful site than it used to be, in my opinion (others would disagree with me on that, though).

Anyway, sorry to go on for so long; I get long-winded sometimes. If you ever want more feedback or

You guys sure are getting touchy over only a 4. I thought this site could be better. I wanted to explain how I thought it could be better, and since Umfuld put effort into this site, I figured he might appreciate it. It might sound strange, but I'm more of a critic when I see someone actually cares about their work on YTMND. Would you guys be happier if I applied that harsh criticism to every site? Most users don't even care about improving. They're either happy just the way they are or they don't care that they could be better. Anyway, do you really think YTMND would improve if I went around telling people how I thought their site could be better? If you really think so, then I could give it a shot.

As for giving the password to an alt away, all they do is post harmless sites and comments on their own sites. That doesn't make me look like an ass. But if that's still a bad thing, didn't you give away the password to one of your alts recently too?

And for the record, I'm not a Cancer. I'm a Pisces.

Umfuld, forget whatever problem you have with me for a moment and consider my idea:

I seriously think this site could be a lot funnier if it showed the "It's a Wonderful Life" daughter when she says her line here. Picture it, a cute little cheerful girl in 1946 attire and a gray-scale color scheme. She looks so innocent. Then it switches to Deniro with a harsh "FUCK YOU."

That's funny, because it shows contrast. You started to show some of that contrast already, but I think it could be pushed further.

Since you didn't edit the girl's voice so it sounds like she's on the phone, it would make more sense auditorily this way, too.

first of all, of course i was trolling rodheh with the rug account. there's not point in called me a troll. i was acting like a troll, yes, but my point was that rodheh takes the troll bait and makes an embarrassment of himself, doing exactly what the troll wants him to do. rodheh should have been the one replying to that comment, but instead you posted a wall of text underneath it about how i am the troll and now it seems everyone missed the point.

and about your site, yes, i was being a dick on the internet so i guess in the most childish defense, yes i was a being a troll and i was wrong. i just didn't like your site. to be perfectly honest, i didn't even know i was logged in to rug. i have multiple accounts that i use to maintain contact with many users. i try not to vote on a site twice and if i do by accident then i correct it. or WHO CARES. i know that's against the "rules" but have you taken a look at the "rules" lately? the rules are supposed to be a joke, guys. lets ta the "rules" posted in site creation. these things are against the "rules" when making a site:

"inside jokes that the majority of the members of YTMND won't understand." that means this site breaks the rules.

"any of the following words in the title or text of the site: OMG, LOL, ROFL, WTF, PWNED, O RLY, OWNED, OMFG, etc." (lol, internet fad? one of the biggest ever??)

"blatant copyright infringement" (ppptttttttt)

"complete lack of creativity, such as straight rips from family guy, the simpsons or any other tv show" (most of us are guilty)

"anime (please, just go to 4chan and get it over with)" (mik3m's entire account)

You're right. It syncs.

As for my first point, I was referring to the image's file size being unnecessarily large. I thought that the site's large size was due entirely to that, but having a look at the asset pages, I see that the audio file is also to blame. When I say the image is way too large for what it delivers, I mean that the image file size takes up a lot of space when it doesn't have any reason to (and thereby makes the whole site bigger than it needs to be).

My first suggestion would be to optimize your .gif, which I'm assuming you probably didn't do. I'm not an expert with optimization, but I know that most software will have the option to optimize your animation for the .gif format. This doesn't always save space, depending on your animation, but in your case, I think it would have made a significant difference. Additionally, you could cut down on the number of frames in your animation and just make each frame last a bit longer to make up for the removed ones. You could also lower the number of colors used in your .gif; for example (and I'm not suggesting that you do this), a black-and-white animation uses way fewer bytes than a color animation.

Regarding your audio, I would suggest using an .mp3 file type rather than a .wav type--it takes up far less space. The only time you'd ever want to use a .wav file is if you have audio that needs to be looped seamlessly. An .mp3 file has a tiny break between loops while a .wav doesn't.

This is pretty much the extent of my knowledge; it's really just stuff I've picked up here and there in the past year that I've been making sites on YTMND. I'm not an expert, but I am generally more willing to help new users than the average YTMNDer (though from my experience, most new users--even if they are trying--end up quitting within a month). Anyway, if you have questions,

This is why you didn't get that counseling job you applied for in 1984 - not because of your short-lived history as an adjunct instructor which lasted three weeks until you demonstrated how to check for lumps on a female student in the HPER 100 class you were teaching. After a practice session with a C average student who had questions about what he should do with his future, you were told to reconsider your direction in life with a visit to the local psychiatrist. You were then told to try stand up, but that idea came crashing down when the club threw you out after making fun of the Downs kid in the first row. And here you are now, on the Internet for five years, showing off your "talents" to a virtual world who really couldn't give a shit.

I am up for a raid and you made a very good point. As i said in my post below they should post sites and we do have an old ally of years past, but they may be reluctant to help us. I'm pretty sure they raided us on gabbly once by sending hundreds of people and having them use the same name. When it happened i was like WTF, but now i think i understand. To really stop us from dying those of us who can make good sites need to, but a lot of the best ytmnders get busy with college and then stop. I have tons of ideas yet i do nothing with them. I got a copy of photshop for xmas from my gf, but i haven't used it yet. I mean maybe if i didn't play minecraft and didn't have a gf then i would take out way more time for ytmnd in my freetime, but both of those things are so addicting. I want to make a NSMB animated in minecraft like this: http://i.imgur.com/HOXrR.gif, probably made by a ytmnder or at least a former ytmnd browser, but seriously that would take sooooooooo incredibly long. The other thing that would help this site is for Max to fix the problems like no stars or the gay background.
Also "http://www.clownpenis.fart" lol! this site deserves a 5 for the inbound links.

If you're going to make an alliance like this, don't put it out in the open for everyone to see. It's such a small one too. If you've ever watched Survivor or Big Brother, you'd know that they try to keep their alliances a secret. Although that first season of Survivor was full of idiots because it was blatantly obvious that four members from the Tagi tribe were working together after the merge, but none of the Pagong people seemed to get the idea that maybe they should try to break it up. I mean fuck, by the time they decided to try it, they were outnumbered because there were only three of them left. I still don't know why Kelly wanted to leave the alliance when they had a great thing going. Had she joined those three Pagong members that week, Richard Hatch's fat naked ass wouldn't have received that soon-to-be-wasted million dollar check. But no, she stupidly voted for Sean. She's lucky she was able to save her own ass by winning the rest of the challenges when her alliance members discovered her betrayal. I'm still fucking pissed that Rudy didn't win that game.

Predictability is one of your few mottos. And I don't mean it like "Craig Ferguson is predictable", because he is an established comedian. You are not. I can even predict the content of the replies to this message: one of you, most probably the first, will downvote this comment and write "didn't read"; another one will make a half-witty statement about how I'm playing their game just by talking about them; another one will reply to the first reply with at least two accounts, with links to sites about the user who made the first reply; then the conversation would fall into a confusing mix of unoriginal offensive remarks. I could say more but it's not worth it.

If I had to see a change in your pattern, I wouldn't believe it. You are like a dead rotten body who doesn't want to realize it's dead. So it keeps doing the same things over and over. Even the supposedly most dangerous member of your band of futility fails to impress, the only unusual feature be exploiting a bug in the site code. And with a very little creative outcome. You try to make a 4chan-esque repetition fit into a structure that is not intended, not even suitable for such actions. You keep on doing it, since 2006 at least, and you still don't understand it. I suppose you make this for your own enjoyment, but why doing it here? It's like riding a bike with square wheels.

YTMND is a flexible community, but not much. You are trying to break it, but the more you bend it, the more it becomes stiff, and eventually it will push you out as it comes back to its original shape.

No, I am not being disingenuous, I am staying on topic. I started off by defending those who make 6 figures. You then went after me with a very common strawman argument about how I am not smart enough to realize (or just not honest enough to admit) that rich people didn't just catch money from heaven, that other people had something to do with it. The implication of course was that they are somehow crooks.

I then responded and agreed that virtually every rich person got rich by selling/trading/working with others. However, my conclusion happened to be was that money/goods earned in this fashion is fair.

I simply responded to what you wrote - not all this baggage which you attached afterwards. You were not talking about these other things like 'the systems historical bias' - what does that term mean anyway?

No, your definition of socialism for the rich is incorrect. 'Socialism for the rich' refers to favoritist regulation from government for inside players, but punitive for competitors; sweetheart contracts from the government to the rich/corporations and also government subsidies for the rich. Mere cooperation is not socialism.

Next on Fox and Friends: "PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN"

I don't want to be the Debbie Downer of the situation, but to me killing OBL looks like another tiny piece of an almost forgotten puzzle started so long ago. I was 14 when I saw the news of that terrible act and I was a stupid ignorant about everything. In 10 years I got informed and I also started to have an opinion, which is still quite immature, but at least I have something to think about. I believe terrorists are driven by interests, so it seems plausible and logically easy to neutralize them, not because of what they aspire to but because of the way they want to achieve their goal. But terrorism... terrorism is a concept. How do you make a war on terrorism? It's like making a war on love! How do you make a war on something that you can barely describe? Of course it's easy to describe it as an act. But terrorism goes beyond the act, for some it's a way of life, a philosophy, that's what scares me the most. I think there should be something more than killing terrorists, they can be replaced in no time. The problem is, I still don't know what is missing. Maybe there's nothing missing and this game of capturing/killing is the only solution to the problem. Maybe the problem is not even what we commonly think it is. Maybe, but that's a little far-fetched, there's no problem at all.

This switch-to-repeating-background technique has always been used to make a site unusually long, so I followed that precedent by default.
