There's this new cartoon on PBS called Daniel Tiger's neighborhood. It makes all the world of make believe characters come to life in cartoon form.

They use all of Mr Roger's songs, characters, sayings and whatnot, but all homogenized. Like Lady Elaine is just some regular woman instead of a crazy scary psychopathic puppet and King Friday, Prince Tuesday and the owl have zero personality. The Daniel tiger puppet was always shy and coy, but this new one is all outgoing and acts like Syd the Science kid.

They never ever mention Mr. Rogers in any way.

I think it's a huge betrayal to him and it pisses me off.

To be honest I think the 1-to-5 system is stupid. People want to give their own vote as much weight as possible, so the logical thing to do is "split voting" with 1's and 5's. Youtube, Reddit, and other popular sites realized this so they went from numerical ratings to binary vote +/- systems.

Of course, max doesn't exactly stay ahead of the curve. In fact, the downfall of YTMND can be attributed to max failing to stay ahead of the curve.

Back in early 2005, max could have realized that the advent of home broadband meant his dialup-friendly gif/mp3 host was about to be left in the dust. People were ready for a full-motion video host, and during that crucial moment, YTMND was the frontrunner for multimedia hosting. If you think about it, YTMND had already gotten over the biggest hill - people knew about it.

The time was right to upgrade. The phrase "Buy low; sell high" couldn't have applied more. The dot-com crash of the early 00's was like the video game crash of '83...the demand wasn't gone, but skittish short-sighted investors thought it was just a bubble that had popped until Nintendo swooped in '85 and took an unsuspecting market by storm. It was the exact same situation in '05: everyone thought the dot-com market had crashed, but casual internet users had more bandwidth than ever before, and they wanted a simple web-based video hosting service instead of dicey file-sharing networks.

YTMND would have been perfect, the recognition was there, max had arguably the biggest corner on the web multimedia market, his traffic was soaring and hardware prices were at an all time low. The opportunity was there; max sat on his rear end because of some pretentious artsy-fartsy desire to cling to the format of Image, Sound, Text. In 2006, then-little-known website "Youtube" sold for $1.6 billion.

A lot of us look back at opportunities we missed and laugh...max, do you cry?

I think it's encouraging them, honestly, but it's also part of the larger problem: that we're still here at all. I mean, the best thing to dry up and blow this site away would be if everyone who isn't a "faggot" would just quit forever. Imagine how exciting it'd be for woman, DarthWang, farkle, moonmanfan, pilleater, and whatever acc't santabot is using these days to simply post for each other all day long. You can be sure they'd keep doing it, no doubt. Ten years from now, the bunch of them tards would still be at it. But if a faggot posts a site on the internet and there's nobody around to care...

With all due respect, the 50's and 60's had less government than in the 40's, as well as less government spending, but also much greater wealth.

The 70's did not have less government than the 60's. Therefore, smaller government can not be blamed here for the troubles then.

Corporate tyranny is what we have now, because corporations work with government. Right now, they actively help the government spy on us and some of them get bailed out after they fail and/or produce mediocrity.

You say that life has gotten worse for most since the 1980s, but, the US government has been growing since then. It is now bigger than ever. Small government can not be blamed.

Also, corporations are creations of government. For a company to be a corporation, it gets a charter from the government. Now, because of this, if the anarchists/anarcho-capitalists had their way, there would be no classic style corporations, at least not as we know them.

Open letter from Zaalnog's great great grandson, Zoltraen (March, 2150)

"When my great great grandfather started Lordship in 2013, he vowed to moderate administratively, as well as administrate moderately. This meant dealing with the then degenerate "moon guys", who were not the people who live in a hole on the moon that we know today. They were a primitive bunch of "under-voters" who believed in the chanting of nonsensical gibberish, something they called, "moon font", and the repetition of the same letter over and over again. It is unclear what they had meant, but it was believed they had an unwavering interest in "storage", which is why they were all rounded up and shot into the center of the moon. There was one user, known today as K-Ranger-L8, who made a few moon man sites, but was more interested in the intricacies of text-to-speech, then the run-on hate train, which was the moon guy's battle cry. He was spared and was instead converted into a cyborg coffee grinder, quesadilla press with built in .gif compatibility. Yes, Zaalnog was a gracious Lord, and a stern Lord. He would always say, "Stern Rules". He was good to the servers, always optimized for space, used mp3's when possible, and basically made fun of people instead of filling in the citations, which we all know was pure gold. It's hard to imagine that such a fine leader would need a publicized retraction in the form of a letter like this, but I'm here to declare once and for all, that Zaalnog, my Great Great Grandfather, did not give Marilyn Monroe GAIDS. We've been holding on to the proof for a long time now. We haven't felt that it was the business of the general public, but since Max V was crowned "King of the Internet", he's declared that historical records need to be adjusted for accuracy. He still has no comment as to the accuracy of the ytmnd search engine. Just remember that Zaalnog turned ytmnd from a mouldering shitheap, into a smouldering shitheap in just under two weeks with nothing but wit and a different colored username. But I'll tell you what he told my grandad. "We didn't begin this webpage, so just start typing, dog."

Aw hell, really? That's insane. All the Chinese need to do is send over a dozen free crock-pots to some angsty immigrant kids and they can shut our economy down for a year. Too bad Alexi Vayner is dead, he woulda been perfect. It was bad enough when we spent a few billion dollars on a manhunt for the leader of a "leaderless cell structure" organization - which is exactly what the CIA counter-terrorism manual says not to do by the way. Well, he won't be watching any Gilligan reruns anymore, America FUCK YEAH.

Americans are damned selfish, that won't change. 12 years after 9/11 is still "too soon" to do anything but drop in prayerful silence, but the day after we took out a few hundred Afghan civilians I had to hear gems like this at work: "Why are there no Wal-marts in Afghanistan?" "Because there's nothing but Targets!"

I don't necessarily disagree with any of that. We're sort of saying the same thing from two different directions - the intent of the organization is good. Their execution of that intent sucks shit. You can't evaluate a political individual, let alone an entire organization, based solely on their mandate.

Most of the actual day-to-day work in environmental protection is done by state agencies. Like most federal agencies in the US, they direct where the money goes and get involved in research, so it's not really fair to evaluate their performance so much as it is to evaluate the state agencies under it...and, well, my most recent experience was in Texas. A TCEQ regulator who had jurisdiction over a rather dangerous industrial plant was fooled for three years by an inspection form that had been done once and signed 4 years ago instead of weekly like it was supposed to be, and then had the date changed with White-Out. Once every few months, he'd come around and the plant environmental manager (on parole for manslaughter) would take him out for margaritas before he would start the tour. I'm not joking or exaggerating, I wish I was.

Oh, and in Texas, there's no zoning. This plant was surrounded on all sides by low-income housing, and they had enough barrels of toxic heavy metals to qualify as a chemical weapons depot that would have made Saddam Hussein a happy man.

So yeah, I've been plenty of places where the rivers look like coffee and the USA isn't one (anymore), but that doesn't mean the govt. has its shit together either. We're too busy importing people with technical skills to do the shit we forgot how to do while our law schools churn out more lawyers than have ever been in one country in human history on our great national Race to the Bottom.

Damn this thread got serious, what the hell.

Let me just say this: I grew up as a geeky teenagers on isolated military bases overseas where a phone call home meant waiting in the queue all weekend, the internet was in its early early days and the only real contact we had on a daily basis was this new thing called Usenet that hadn't quite reached the civilian market outside of a couple universities.

The point I've making is that I've been an observer of people arguing on the internet for longer than just about anyone else. We had one TV channel that just showed old sports and CNN reruns, and as entertaining as AFRTS commercials were, we had to entertain ourselves. So I watched a lot of educated people make fools of themselves online back when there were only a few thousand people there to piss each other off.

One of the most important things I've learned is this: making assumptions about your adversary's real-life characteristics is not only pointless, it just reveals your bitterness, or in the parlance of our times,
U MAD? If you take a stab in the dark like "I bet you weigh 400 pounds" or "I bet you're some 60 year old geezer who mops the floor at a Wendy's" chances are you're going to be wrong, and being wrong in that way only strengthens the other person because they can laugh at your futile attempts to analyze them.

Sorry for the seriousness pde, but watching you two go at endlessly is just a distraction and there are plenty of more entertaining flame wars that we need gr33nscr33n focused on at this time. Now if you excuse me I need to go get my weekly liposuction, pick up my social security check and go mop the floor at Wendy's.

Even more baseless accusations and insults. Explain how the Moon Crew is liberal ridden. Are you implying that the Moon Crew is under tyrannical rule simply because we ask our Crewmen not to make shitty and faggotry-filled ytmnds? Is it so wrong to ask that a member of the Moon Crew not create sites which routinely defile the awesome likeness of Moon Man?

You keep calling me these terms like liberal and socialist, but these words are not empty; they have meaning. I have previously explained to you how I am not a liberal or a socialist, and therefore how the meanings of those words do not apply to me. As such, you might as well be calling me any other baseless insult, like poopy-head, as the lack of applicability to me is just the same.

Yet, there is a difference between the term poopy-head and the two terms liberal and socialist. The terms liberal and socialist bring to mind the awful concepts of tolerance and the like. Naturally, the Moon Crew dislikes those two terms. Perhaps, by calling me those terms over and over again, you were hoping to convince current Crewmen that I am indeed corrupted by anti-Moon Man influences. Then, maybe, you thought you might be able to lure them into a new Crew created by you. However, this plan is foolish and will fail due to the fact that all present Crewmen are more intelligent than you, SantabotAI, and thus they will not be fooled by such a flawed scheme. Additionally, the dislike and condemnation of many of your sites is held not only by myself and BigX, but also by most other members of the Moon Crew. And even the members who can tolerate your awful sites can understand the reasons why said sites are detrimental to the Moon Crew, and why I had to expel you from the Crew.

"I'm not sure you understand what the word marginally means. "

Ok, lets see if I applied the word correctly: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/marginal

The english language has many applications of the word. I went with 2b.
b : not of central importance <regards violence as a marginal rather than a central problem>; also : limited in extent, significance, or stature <had only marginal success with the business>

context example given:

Examples of MARGINAL

There has been only a marginal improvement in her condition.

Marginally better, mathematically speaking. 4.27 - 3.76 = 0.51. Or just over half a star. Or 11% of 5 stars.

"And I'm a target for group downvoting."

Is it because you are such a nice guy? This might work on some guy who just came here, but I have been in and out since 2006. I have seen the stuff you do. Including harass people. Including using alts to mass downvote other people's stuff. So, this complaint is hypocrisy.

"If faggot lacrossestar or jimmm posted the sites I posted in November most if not all of them would have scored between 4.40 and 4.70 and you're hopeless if you don't understand that."

I'm sure you would prevent that with alt account downvoting.

No one will ever do anything about the fact that the government is exponetially taking things over. We're at the bottom of the curve right now. Really, we can't do anything for a fundemental reason, we've become so morally decayed that we are now an easy populace to control. All they have to pacify immoral people is redistrubute the wealth to only those that might riot (there's other methods but that's the most used one). In a way, the government is just a reflection of our own moral decadence. You see, moral people cannot be controlled to do malicious acts because they are too just to resist them and will in fact go out of their way to stop people that do evil. But when a populace becomes morally corrupt, then you can easily control them because everyone is too selfish, too cowardly and ignorant to do anything about your suddenly increasing control over society. This is why the the elites simply don't care about people figuring it out, because if they aren't ignorant they're likely to be cowardly and selfish simply because of the aspects of our society. Also, they have a nice database on everyone and can search for specific terms if they ever got scared of a real revolution.

Of course, everything is eventually going to collapse down because as we decay we create less and less things of real value meaning the leeches have less to leech off.
