Yeah. When you're working with file types that use color "indexing" like gifs you can selectively take out/change certain colors. Luckily the background had very bright colors and the dogs where white, brown, black, and gray. Another tool is the color select tool, but since I had so many layers to deal with, changing the color map yielded faster results.
