^^^yes, I can just imagine Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, or Haddaway visiting my YTMND and being incensed that they weren't credited as source authors for my mash-up. 1ing my YTMND because you suspect that I took somebody else's' mash-up and pawned it off as my own is one thing, but 1ing it because I'm not explicitly laying out for you the nature of how the mash-up is made? It's any artist's decision to source their *influences* however they feel like it. I made it. That's all you need to know, other than the fact that you are dumb.
Your description has "SW TNG FANFIC CROSSOVER MEGAMIX". This satisfies my conditions of citing your sources. I do not remember if it was there or not when I first viewed it. If it was there, then I can tell you that I've been more liberal as of late. But I still disagree with your argument. The fact that you were inspired to create this mash needs to have its sources cited just like any other YTMND that uses the SW or TNG fanfare by themselves. You are not immune simply because you don't believe you
^^to what end? What does this sort of citing achieve? If you are stating that the point of citing sources is to make it so that everyone understands at an objective level what source material went in to the creation of a YTMND, then I think you are wrong. This is not the job of an artist. If the point is to give credit where credit is due, and to discourage blatant theft, then I have met this requirement, as I made the sound file. I am not embarrassed to put myself on this pedestal.
I'll draw a parallel for you. When a remixed song or a new version of a song is done, the credits to the song label the original artist(s). The artists who wrote it, sang it, and performed it. Likewise, you've taken two songs (one of which is not cited yet - "What is Love?") and have done a remix/revision of them. I have no qualms about you saying that you created the sound file, but you have to admit that you never would have been able to make it if not for the work of the other authors.
Now I'm fairly certain the the original authors would not be all that irate about it (but I'm not them so I can't say for certain and neither can you). Nonetheless, I find it simple etiquette to credit the original authors. Finally, I am also a teacher. If my students handed in a paper without a bibliography, then that is called plagarism, no matter how innocent the infraction. Your infraction is that your citation of the audio is completely yours and not the work of anyone else.
So to recap: 1) You properly cite your sources because that is the way it is done. 2) It is done this way out of respect and courtesy for the work of others. 3) To not do so either means that you have no respect for the work of others or you believe you are above having to do it. Either way, I cannot justify a 5 to someone who is arrogant or narcissistic. I will give a 5 if in the description there is mention of the other song you mashed together.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, then. Many artists and mash-up artists specifically do not cite their sources in the manner you prescribe on purpose. Part of the enjoyment for me when I listen to mash-up artists is deciphering what exactly it is that is being mashed up. Of course, I cannot instruct you to alter your subjective rating technique. However, I might suggest rating YTMNDs based on how much you like them on a scale from one to five.
I would only point out that Mastersitsu's "What is Hoth?" (http://whatishoth.ytmnd.com/) does site Haddaway when he uses your mash. On the other hand, your argument that it is partially a fun thing to do to figure out what has been mashed is a bit of a slippery slope for me. But I'll concede because of your reputation.
The original from which this is taken (whatishoth) is wonderful in its own right, but the fact that you added ST (Picard!), zoomed it out, and added the ST soundtrack made this genius.
This is the first time I've ever bothered to leave a comment or anything, but I literally can't stop watching this. Well done.
