Old but ftw. Laughed my *ss off at the comments about Bush being the button pusher. If nukes were raining down Bush wouldn't know what the f*ck to do. As for the site itself, yeah it could be propaganda, but it makes no difference, not the first time the world as we know it could have been changed forever.
*sighs* Alright since some of you fools are too incompetent to under stand this I'll -try- to explain it. This man did save the world. If Russia and US fired nukes, we would launch a sh*t load. As we all know the US alone could destroy the Earth with our fire power alone. Now if other countries with nuclear power saw missiles everywhere they would go crazy (North Korea) and start firing theirs. ~anyways while you bash my statement I would just like to say good ytmnd, and wow downvoters truly are amazing f*gs.

Whether or not the man was singularly responsible for preventing a doomsday scenario is disputable. His decision to declare the computer read as an error inspite of greater evidence to the contrary is, historically, not.

Are you f*cking kidding me? If nuclear war broke out between the USA and the USSR, pretty much the entire northern hemisphere of the earth (and sizeable portions of the southern) would be a bombed-out wasteland.

Also, don't think this was completely an altruistic gesture. If he would have fired the nukes, he would have doomed his own country too. People that create enough firepower to jepordize the fate of all mankind are not heros in my book. Sooner or later, a terrorist (not necessarily aligned with the middle east) will get one. Then, all they will have to do is fire it at Russia to start a chain reaction that would destroy modern civilization should that protocol be used. Oh well, I guess I should give this at least a 3 for the anthem and for informing people just how screwed we almost were. Kind of reminds me of MIB. he didnt just save the soviet union, he saved the US. If he had trusted the computers, he would have launched everything the soviets had (which was about the same size as the US's) the US and the Soviet Union would have been completely and utterly destroyed, turning towns into giant fields of radioactivity so intense you could cook a steak in the air.
