Remember this day, June 6th 1944.
The Battle of Normandy was fought in 1944 between the German forces occupying Western Europe and the invading Allied forces as part of the larger conflict of World War II. The monumental casualties suffered in this battle alone still reigns blood till thi

Yes sir, reporting for duty sir! Oh crap its the americans on omaha ... Finally, someone that recognises what is actually happening today. 5 stars for you!
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Oh, and it was more than just Americans that fought the Second World War. There was Brits, the French (even if the leaders surrendered), many many asians suffered at the hands of the Japanese, the Egyptians helped us, so did the Canadians and the Ozzies. Just you remember that, those of you who said its all about the americans.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Oh, and the ACDC fan says For Those About To Rock, We Salute You. Yes, I'll admit that the Americans were 1/4 of what won the war.

Gotta love the comments by people talking about "capitalizing on emotions" and even associating this website with support for Bush. It makes me sick, and I hope that every downvoter gets punched by a Marine today.

It's good that someone remembered this day, rather than it being 6/6/06.

June 6th, 2006

That's a good one there. Shows perfectly that a ytmnd doesn't have to be about silly fads (Don't get me wrong, I love them). Either way, it's a very good tribute. If those men hadn't been there, I might be typing in German right now.

"Who ever 1ed this is Canadian" Percentage wise, Canada sent more troops in WW2 than the Americans did. +5 for the troops that fought for my freedom.

a much better reason to remember June 6th than all this OMG SATAN and beat up emo bullsh*t.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
"whoever downvotes this is (insert derogatory remark here)" Come, come. It's a static picture he didn't make, and barely relevant sound. At best, this deserves a 2. Though the idea of paying tribute is praiseworthy, YTMND, a bastion of racism, ignorance and tastelessness, is not the place to do it.

*salute* Yes, I'm a liberal. And no, I'm not what you would call pro-military. But this brought a (metaphorical) tear to my eye. Any human loss is far too many, regardless of nationality. So don't think this is a pro-American military YTMND. It's honoring the sacrifice that thousands made for the lives of others. Though I can't rate this as anything less than a five would be disrespectful, but the site itself does not deserve a 5. Also, 666 is NOT the devil's number. Mathematicians redid the math, it's 616
June 6th, 2006

June 6th, 2006

3rd because this is ytmnd. But I do think that people should not forget. And anyone that goes around bashing WW2 vets and lives in any of the formerlly allied nations really needs to get their priorities in line.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Who is downvoting Veterans?! Seriously....not cool.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
All right, listen up: No, the US didnt win the war on its own; victory over the Germans was a team effort. The Soviets did lots of the heavy lifting, the British and later Americans kept German troops tied down in the south while preparing the invasion, and the Americans provided the Allies with the industrial muscle needed to win out. As for those of you who think this site is just trying to capitalize on peoples emotions, its funny to think that someone cant make a tribute to the sacrifice of so many
June 6th, 2006
(0)
The numbers 666 mean nothing, the actual "sign" of the the devil is 6106, the 66 was a misinterpretation. An ancient greek game with numbers and letters reveals that 6106 stands for Niro, which was the ruling emperor at that time. Basically the bible is stating that Niro is the devil, nothing more. People blew it way out of proportions.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
without someone saying that its there to take advantage of those who fought. Its a tribute to the soldiers, nothing more, and nothing less. As for the sound, not much would be respectable. And to all the satanists, racists, and Neo-Nazis trying to attack the site, just shut up. Youre the scum of the world, everyones heard what you have to say, and everyone hates your message.
June 6th, 2006

WERE IN YOUR BASE KILLING YOU DOODS thats what I would say if i was a uncaring dumb sh*t but some people dont realise what people had to go through to have us able to be free how we are today so please stop and rember they sacrificed so much to keep us free so take a minute to respect and rember them
June 6th, 2006

Glad someone remembered that this day means more than the sign of the beast. Great men died so that we can live free. God Bless America.

This screws over all known ytmnd conventions and is not funny but emotional to boot. I salute you for making this and I thank you for reminding me of all that could have been lost... As you hear the whirring of bullets just think that if they took another path all of history from that day to this could have been entirely different.

I was born on the 45th anniversary of this tragic day. Though tragic, I can say from the bottom of my heart that WWII is the only war that I can think of that is what I'd call just. And to these British and American men, I thank. And to all involved I'm sorry they had to be there.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
There's nothing wrong with patriotism and recognizing veterans, but don't do it on YTMND. Try and be funny next time, ok?
June 6th, 2006
(0)
CurdyButt, I left a comment on your site, not you. Your repeated comments confirm my suspicion that this site was made not out of any deep appreciation for our veterans, but rather with standard ytmnd aspirations. Which is fine, but you have little room to complain about getting 1'd. It isn't a downvote. This site sucks, lacking the intertextuality found in good ytmnds. moreover, the image sucks, and the sound sucks. a lame tribute to the troops, it lacks also genuine, sincere, intent.
(0)
lol at Americans who think they single-handedly won D-Day and probably the whole of world war 2. You don't have a f*cking clue.
(0)
Change it to the band of brothers music this audio is awful, D-Day was a hell of a lot louder and intense.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
5'd for those veterans. Far braver than I could ever be.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Many Americans, English, and my fellow Canadians gave their lives on that day. Heroes; all of them.
(0)
America is the greatest country.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
The sound sucks? Hard to replicate real gunfire. As close as it will get. The picture? Actual screenshot of d-day, during which our men died. How does it suck? It's not like i took a f*cking coloring book and drew penises on it to make it a fake picture. I made this site with the upmost intent, not a f*ggy short film, to recognize a day which determined how idiots like you would be born
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Your inane logic fails along with your presence, which shows absolutely no knowledge of what you're talking about. There are TONS of YTMND's that aren't made to be funny (Dante's Inferno ytmnds) and just realize that for every bullet you hear in this ytmnd, has killed someone. Hundreds of thousands.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Reading this you'd think the American's did it all by themselves! Sheesh! You don't hear much about the other landings because that didn't completely balls it up like they did at Omaha beach. Which is a pity because the British used amphibious, flame-throwing tanks!
June 6th, 2006
(0)
^ Canadians at Juno Beach had the second most brutal landing next to Omaha. Don't leave them out.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Haha the d-day attack wasn't necessary at all. soviet and the british would have won the war anyway. Do you think war is something heroic because Tom Hanks killed some nazis in a Hollywood movie?
June 6th, 2006
(0)
I let my grandfather who fought on this day vote on this one. He gives you a 1 and calls you stupid for trivializing this day by making a memorial on a joke site.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Britain would've been invaded if it weren't for assistance the US gave. Russia would've lost millions more soldiers if we hadn't opened up a Western front. And in regards to the heavy casualties on Omaha beach, the entire allied force knew it was the lest suited for landing but was also the most necessary. If no one took Omaha, there would be a giant gap in between the two halfs of the beach invasion and it would give the germans enough time to launch an effective counter attack. The germans knew this too.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
please don't tell me the reason you personally downvoted all of my sites was to defend the honor of america's fallen troops.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
Which is why they made omaha the best defended beach of them all. Casualties would've been just as bad or worse if the Brits or Canadians had landed there. So shut the f*ck up, crazy. By the way, the Brits weren't sent because they had already suffered too many casualties trying to defend Europe before we came to their aid. Just accept that the war was one by every allied country and it might not have been without every one.
June 6th, 2006
(0)
@KingNothing: Yeah but their landing was hard. Omaha was a cock-up (the tanks where lanched WAY too far out and all sank) @Crazy: Oh no, we badly needed American resources, however the yanks forget they badly needed the technology the others (manly British) had. Their stuff was sh*t, but they could make a hell of a lot of it unlike the Germans.

crazy, you have no knowledge of history or the situation of 1944. Without the United States involved, there would be no Lend-Lease agreement, meaning the Soviets and the British would not have access to American manufacturing facilites and therefore could not produce weapons of war. The British would be bombing at night without much accuracy, doing without the accuracy of the daylight raids of the Americans. The Soviets would have won eventually, yes, probably by 1948 or 1949 and Europe would have been

entierly communist, strengthening the Soviet position in the Cold War and possibly changing the world's face as we know it today. Still insignifcant? I think not.

Oh and PoisonedAl, don't forget that the other American Beach, Utah, went off more smoothly than any other landing. Only 197 casualties at Utah beach. About 2000 on Omaha. Together they equal about the same as both British beaches put together. About about 1000 each on Gold and Sword. I'm unsure about Juno, so I don't know how Canadian casualties compare.

And just to make sure you remember, it wasn't the Americans fault for planning mistakes on Omaha. The landings were planned by brass from each of the ETO allied countries.

@Hamsterbob No I think the order to launch the tanks far too far out was an American, but whoever it was, was a coward. But yeah, Utah went smoothly. That's why you'll never see it in an awful Hollywood film.

Finally a 6-6-6 topic that's NOT lame!
June 6th, 2006

@KalleR The Red army had the most motivated men (no heros, they HATED the Germans) and the best tanks (they didn't brake down all the time like the German's tanks and didn't burst into flames like the American built ones did at the slightest knock). In fact, we all needed everyone to win. However the side that contributed most to the allied victory was the German's. Without their leader going nuts and trying to micromanage EVERYTHING, it would have been a lot harder for as.

So,Crazy, you would have wanted the war to last much longer? If the US' industrial might had not entered the war it would have definitely lasted much longer than 6 years.

thank you for remembering. all this 666 crap really overshadowed it. i also find it kind of ironic that i have a grandfather who fought in WWII and stormed the beaches of normany and had a great grandfather who fought with the nazis.

Very good. It had an effect on me. That's all that really matters when you get to the core of it... Whether it affected the audience or not.. be it comedic or horrific.. or anywhere in between. I think I'll go watch The Longest Day now...
June 6th, 2006

Thank you for this YTMND. As for Saving Private Ryan, it was one the better war movies depicting the D-Day scene better than any the modern movies done before. The Longest Day also was a movie that depicted the operations before the morning invasion itself.

Who cares if it's an American image and a sound clip from a video game detailing American's fighting, it symbolizes all of the men who died fighting this day. f*ck off about the communist crap too, "Uncle Joe" had to beg the allies to alleviate stress from the Eastern Front.

If the Canadians, Brits, American's, Aussies, NZlanders, free Poles/French etc etc didn't come to fight the Red Army would have been pushed back evn further eventually. German technology/training/equipment > Russian one's.

Actually, I take this 4 back and give you a one, because A) You don't deserve this much credit, and B) You didn't cite any of your sources. (http://neothisisloco.ytmnd.com/, you stole the pic and the description)

I never said you were in the war, neither did I say it had to be funny. You just need to cite your sources. :) Besides, my 5 goes to the REAL heroes, not this ytmnd

June 6th, 2006

OH GAWSH, MUST NOT GET ANGRY SIRE, It's just a ytmnd, lest we forget. The fact is, its obvious this ytmnd doesn't accomplish anything. All that you are saying is, remember d-day, and we don't need a top15 ytmnd to do that. Also, you didnt cite your sources, LAWLE!!!11.
June 6th, 2006

I'm ashamed that it took a YTMND to remind me of today's significance, but am grateful that it did, and to all who raised arms against evil that day. Thanks for helping me remember, Curdy.

I CAME 2 YTMNEDEE TO LAFF, NOT LERN. GAWSH. It's not the fact that the ytmnd is about serious things, it's the fact that you're using a sad day in history as your way to get to the top 15. Also, for the billionth FU|CKING TIME, WE DONT NEED A YTMND TO REMEMBER THIS DAY.
